SHORT  BY
STUFF   DAVE SHANER

We have seen in our shepherding class on Wednesday nights that everyone is a minister. The word "minister" simply means servant. It was never used in scripture to designate a full-time position like we often associate the word today. Yet we do find that God has different expectations out of each of us. "It was he who gave some (emphasis mine) to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up - Ephesians 4:11-12. Not everyone is expected to do the same thing. Romans 12:4-8 says something similar - "Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully." We all have a responsibility to serve, teach, encourage, give, etc. but some are more gifted in one area than another. If God has given you a special gift in one area, you need to make sure that you are majoring in that. But all of these are for one purpose - so that the body of Christ may be built up and become mature. Notice Paul goes on to say in Ephesians 4:16 that the body builds itself up as each part does its share.

What is your job in the Lord's kingdom? There is no such thing as an unimportant task. Only when we work together does the world see the glory of the church, which is the bridegroom of Christ. Many today want Jesus but don't want His church. You can't have one without the other. The best way for people to see Jesus is when the church keeps its eye on Him always seeking to work as a unit. The tell-tale sign of a Christ honoring church is when we love one another. Jesus said then all men will know that we are His disciples. Let's work together and love each other more and more.

Have a Great Week!

Now, brothers, I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, so that you may learn from us the meaning of the saying, "Do not go beyond what is written." - 1 Corinthians 4:6

Shepherd's Corner
"Pray without ceasing" 1 Thessalonians 5:17 Some may not be sure if they believe in the "power of prayer", but there should never be any doubt in the power of the Lord who answers prayer. The Dalton Congregation does so well in turning in "prayer requests" each Sunday, and at other times of special need. What a privilege it is to share with our Heavenly Father those concerns that are on the hearts of our brothers and sisters. As a CHURCH FAMILY, we need to continually pray for one another. In doing so, our prayer life truly is pleasing to the Lord, and He will bless your life.

Youth News....

The story of the Prodigal son in Luke 15 is a sweet story of a young man turning away from worldly living and coming back to his father. First, one must note the fact that the man realized he was not worthy to go back to his father. He recognized the sins he had committed, and he knew that he deserved the consequences of his choices. The son decided to return to his father, confess his sin, and ask to be hired as a simple servant. However, it seems that the father had other plans.

When the son was still a long way off, the father ran out to meet him! He threw his arms around him and kissed him! The father's reaction is definitely the best part of the story. It seems as though he had been watching; waiting for his son to come home, so when he finally saw him, he couldn't help but run out to meet him and welcome him back! He told his servants to bring his son the best robe, a ring for his finger, and to to kill the fattened calf! The father's hopes had been fulfilled! His lost son was finally home!

This parable should bring hope to our lives as Christians. It seems that when we've completely turned our back on God, he's waiting there once we turn around! The Father's not going to wait until you reach home, He'll RUN to meet you! He loves us that much, family!

I pray that you enjoy your year in Him! I love you all, and it was a pleasure being able to serve you this summer! I'll see you all again around Christmas!

In His Love, Nathan
