SHORT  BY
STUFF   DAVE SHANER

Our annual Vacation Bible School is now history. We had a very good attendance from children in the community. Many had the Word of God, which is the seed of the kingdom, planted in them. We appreciate all of the teachers and helpers who worked so hard to make it such a success.

We also appreciate the generosity of this congregation. Every time there is a need, you respond. We had over $13,000 total given last Sunday. Over $7,000 was given for the regular church contribution and the Lifeline of Hope. Between the church and the Christian school $6,000 was was collected for Teri Dupey. This will enable her to have the needed surgery on both of her legs. When we give for the Lord, He will multiply and increase your store of seed so that you can be generous on every occasion.

It was great to see Kristina Wilson baptized into Christ. The church can be involved in many great works, but nothing compares to seeing a precious soul leave the allurements of this world for the kingdom of God. Jesus came for this very reason. He said, "For I have come to seek and save the lost." - Luke 19:10. And that is the very reason we exist as a people. God has asked us to be ambassadors for Christ (II Corinthians 5:17) and, as such, we are His coworkers in the great work of reconciliation - II Corinthians 6:1. Make no mistake, God has done it all. He provided the work and the sacrifice of His son. There is nothing we can do to merit the salvation that God offers us. However, the Word must get out to the people. God has chosen to use you and me to accomplish this task. He can do anything he wants, but he will not proclaim the message for us. Imagine this, the God of creation wants us to work together with him. I hope that gives each of us a great deal of satisfaction, but also a great sense of responsibility.

Sharing Christ with others is a matter of sowing. We often feel overwhelmed or under qualified to even undertake this task. But it is not a matter of ability but availability. Some of the best soul winners I have seen are those that simply invite others to church. They display an enthusiasm over what God has done for them that is catching. It is good to hone your skills to be more useful to God. In fact, God expects that of us.

But it is better to just let Christ live in you everyday. The word, enthusiasm, means God in you. When God is in you, you can not help but let it out. II Corinthians 4:13-14 says "It is written: "I believed; therefore I have spoken." With that same spirit of faith we also believe and therefore speak, because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you in his presence.

Have a Great Week!!

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. -Ephesians 6:12

Shepherd's Corner
What evidence of God's hand do we find in the history of America? We cannot help but believe as we glance at our history that God had a purpose in the founding of America. Peter Marshall wrote a book some years ago called The Light and the Glory. He tells of God's superintending hand upon the life of Christopher Columbus. The adventurer discovered the New World seemingly by accident. But we know it was not. God had His hand upon the wheel of the ship and brought it here, even though Columbus did not know where he was when he landed.

Someone has written that when you look on this land from a historical perspective, you see Washington kneeling in the snow at Valley Forge. You see our founding fathers on their knees at the first Continental Congress. You see the gaunt Lincoln praying in the hour of crisis. You see Woodrow Wilson reading his Bible by White House lights. You see Dwight Eisenhower concluding his inaugural address with a fervent prayer for divine strength and guidance. You hear and see our President George W. Bush unashamed to reference his faith and his dependence upon the word of God.

'The reason that Christianity is the best friend of government is because Christianity is the only religion that changes the heart' - Thomas Jefferson. How much does your heart depend upon the word of God, on a daily basis? Matthew 6:21.

Youth Scoop.....
James 1:2-8
"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does."

It seems that it is Biblically possible to view everything that happens in life as an opportunity for God to strengthen one's faith. There's just one thing that pops into my mind when reading this verse: WHY ARE WE SO NEGATIVE ABOUT TRIALS?! Trying times are used to make our faith in Christ stronger! THAT'S A GOOD THING! It seems that we could all benefit from simply taking the time to look for the blessing that God may have placed on the other side of the trial. Just remember that He loves you, and He's on YOUR side! Enjoy your week!

Love in Him, Nathan
