SHORT BY
STUFF DAVE SHANER
We appreciated having Larry West from We Care
Ministries with us last week. If there is any one thing we learned: is that
the bottom line is souls. We have been born for a purpose, to glorify God
and to have fellowship with him. As Christians, we have also been given
another purpose, that of taking the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ
to a world that has lost its way. We spend a lot of money on many things.
I have no problem with any person spending money on anything they want,
but we must remember that everything we do is ultimately to honor God. I
remember Stanley Shipp saying one time, that "We can spend millions of dollars
on research to help a person recover from cancer. And we spend millions
of dollars to help a person live five more years only to see him go to hell!"
When a person gets to the end of his life, all the things he/she has bought
and all the relationships that were formed matter little if heaven is not
in sight. Are we spending our lives on the things that really matter?
Larry taught us a method. It has proven successful
in many places. It may be the plan for you, but you need a plan. Evangelism
doesn't happen accidentally. Faith is not accomplished over night. Therefore,
we must live our lives according to the Great Commission of Jesus and we
must do so intentionally. All true evangelism starts in fervent prayer.
Are you praying for some one to come to Christ through your efforts? Ultimately,
it is God who determines success. Our responsibility is simply to plant
and water the Word of God in other's hearts. One may plant and another may
water, but God is the one who makes it grow - I Corinthians 3:6. God is
faithful. He has done and will continue to do His part. But we also must
do our part to help others go to heaven. Our part is to simply plant and
water, teach the gospel, share the message of Jesus Christ. Some will respond
favorably. Some will not. Some will simply receive a seed that will sprout
later. Don't get discouraged. When we do our part, many will be rejoicing
in heaven because you cared enough to speak to them about that which matters
most.
Have a Great Week!!
He is the image of the invisible
God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created:
things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or
powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for
him. - Col. 1:15-17

Vacation Bible School
Don't forget to register your children for this year's VBS 'Adventures With
Paul' on July 11th - 14th. You may register online at www.dgchurch.org or
call the church office at 772-0541.
Fourth of July Potluck
All are invited on Monday, July 4th for a potluck and barbecue at Don and
Betty Rude's cabin at St. Maries on the river. Come down and enjoy visiting,
swimming, games and boating. Maps and a sign-up sheet can be found at the
kiosk. Hamburgers, hot dogs, plates and silverware will be provided.
Tweeners 4th of July Get Together
We will be meeting on the Dike Road river by NIC. We will be just to the
left of the big grassy knoll next to the NIC volleyball courts. We will
be making homemade ice cream, to share with everyone. Bring your own snacks,
dinner and drinks. We will start mid-afternoon at about 2 pm and go until
after the fireworks. Get there early if you want to park close by. Let Tim
or Alyssa Frahm know if you need some beach space saved.
Special Contribution:
We appreciate your contributions lately both for Robin Utter and her family
as well as the Nigerian house fire. We were able to collect $3,048.06 to
help with the funeral expenses and to help Robin with some other expenses
that resulted because of the accident. We were also able to collect $1600.63
for Sunday Nwadiali to help with his house fire. There was a total of over
$3,000 collected from all resources including Christians from other areas.
We need to take up another collection on behalf of Teri Dupey. She has phlebitis
and varicose veins in her legs. It has been getting infected and is not
healing. The only cure is for surgery. Their medical plan will not cover
it because it is considered a preexisting condition. They do not personally
have the funds to have this done. The doctor's fee is $3,000 per leg but
one of them needs to be taken care of as soon as possible. They are willing
to take payments but need $1,500 down payment.
The Dupey family has been very faithful and we would like to be to able
help her have this taken care of. We realize that we have asked a lot of
the congregation lately in the way of special contributions, but these situations
don't give notice. It is important that her spiritual family rise up to
help any brother or sister in a legitimate need. Remember that '... he who
supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase
your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.'
- 2 Corinthians 9:10.
Shepherd's Corner
Two hundred and twenty-nine years ago in 1776 our independence from Britain
became a reality with our Declaration of Independence. In his farewell address
two hundred years later Dwight Eisenhower, our president, wrote, 'Throughout
America's adventure in free government, our basic purposes have been to
keep the peace; to foster progress in human achievement, and to enhance
liberty, dignity, and integrity among people and among nations. To strive
for less would be unworthy of a free and religious people. ANY FAILURE TRACEABLE
TO ARROGANCE, OR LACK OF COMPREHENSION OR READINESS TO SACRIFICE, WOULD
INFLICT UPON US GRIEVOUS HURT BOTH AT HOME AND ABROAD.... My hope is that
all who yearn for freedom may experience its spiritual blessings; that those
who have freedom will understand, also, its heavy responsibilities; that
all who are insensitive to the needs of others will learn charity; that
the scourges of poverty, disease, and ignorance will be made to disappear
from the earth, and that, in the goodness of time, all peoples will come
to live together in a peace guaranteed by the binding force of mutual respect
and love. See Gal. 5:1 THINK ON THESE THINGS. Have a happy fourth. - From

Youth Scoop:
Hebrews 13:5-8 - Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content
with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never
will I forsake you." So we say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper;
I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?" Remember your leaders, who
spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life
and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and
forever.
It seems that we have a tendency to focus on many little things in life
that don't matter in the end. When this life is up, it's not going to matter
how much wealth you attained or how many great accomplishments you had under
your belt. The only thing that matters is your relationship with the Father.
Pursuing that should be the focus of our life. Nothing else matters. To
have a faith, love, and trust in God that causes all other worries to cease
is a beautiful thing. The best part is that He offers it to each of us.
We're his children, and He's our Father. Perhaps when He tells us to humble
ourselves, He just wants us to let go - to relinquish control and love Him
with all that we have and all that we are. He should be (He certainly wants
to be) our everything - our reason for life, and our source of joy and comfort.
He's good enough! Let go. Stop fighting, and just enjoy the rest in your
Daddy's arms. He loves you more than you can know!
In Him, Nathan
If you'd like to drop Ken a letter or package of encouragement to him while
he is in boot camp, we're sure he would appreciate it.

We are in need of a few items for VBS craft activities. If you can help
with any of these items, please leave them in the box in the foyer or contact
Kathy Taylor or Jennifer Rude. Items needed: paper towel or tp tubes, yarn,
fish netting, large paper or plastic grocery sacks. Also, if anyone has
a small boat, we could use that for a day as a prop on the stage. Thank
you for your help!

We will soon be needing cookies for VBS. Every day for VBS we will need
300 for a total of 1,200 cookies! Your help with baking or buying them would

which tell stories about Paul. I am also looking for people to help make
the puppets come to life during VBS week and for anyone who could help me
make props for the puppet show. If interested, please contact Lynelle Dehlbom

Soup Kitchen News
The last week of the soup kitchen will be July 6th. If someone would like
to direct and operate the kitchen to keep it open call George Wuest (772-6247)
this evening. Thank You.
PS: Hugs to all that have run and worked the soup kitchen for last five
and half years.
Who's coming to dinner?
A sign-up on the kiosk is for everyone interested in hosting or being a
guest for dinner. Each month everyone's names who have signed up will be
randomly drawn from a hat. First draw will be host, and second draw will
be the guest. This will be a time to get to know each other and enjoy each
other's company, drawing us closer in our church family. Names will start
to be drawn the first or second week in July. Once your names are drawn,
the host will be responsible to contact the guest to find an evening that
is good for both parties. For more information contact Paula Morris 664-1046
or Kim Borsheim 772-0785.

of your prayer trios! Be sure to keep diligently praying for one another.
If you have an uplifting story about your prayer trio - prayers answered,
new friendships, growing faith - please share that with us by contacting
Paul Swaim at 964-0126 or placing a note in his box. These stories may be
shared in a future bulletin or announcement as an encouragement. Thank you!
