SHORT BY
STUFF DAVE SHANER
As I write this, Larry West, from We Care Ministries,
will not have started our Evangelism Seminar. As you read this, he will
have completed it. There are certain skills one must be proficient in to
have a good job. There are certain skills one must be proficient in to be
a good husband/wife or parent. There are even certain skill we must learn
in order to be successful at everyday living. What skills do we need to
be proficient in to be fulfill what God wants us to do while here on earth?
When I first started in full-time ministry,
I was a youth director, bus ministry director, evangelism director and oh
yeah, I preached once a month. It was a good work and very satisfying. I
remember the church that I was with in Illinois having Eddie Cloer up for
a gospel meeting. He was full of enthusiasm, knowledge of the scriptures,
and he could preach with the best of them. In conversations with him, I
was bemoaning the fact that I did not get to preach all that much. After
all, I was 23 years old, had a college degree in Bible, and was trained
to preach. I still remember him saying, "Dave, what could be greater than
teaching someone the gospel and seeing them led to the Lord? When you have
your personal soul-winning studies with people, you are doing the greatest
thing that anybody could do." I was under the illusion that just my preaching
would just wow people over and that they would come forward to be baptized.
Public pulpit preaching does have its place in God's plan and it is an awesome
task. But nothing will compensate for actually asking a friend or co-worker
if they would like to know more about going to heaven. I could preach all
day on "What Must I Do to be Saved" but if there are no lost people to hear
it, what has been accomplished? People need the Lord and He has asked us
to be His coworkers in telling others about the work of redemption. There
is no greater work. What skills do we need to fulfill what God has asked
each of us to do? Not everyone will be a preacher or a gifted public teacher,
but one skill we must all develop is to care enough to ask someone if they
know Jesus and know enough of what to say to lead them to Christ. This skill
must be learned and practiced. God is not as interested in your ability
as your availability. He will bless us when we try.
Have a Great Week!!
I pray that you may be active
in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every
good thing we have in Christ. -Philemon 1:6

Fourth of July Potluck
All are invited on Monday, July 4th for a potluck and barbecue at Don and
Betty Rude's cabin at St. Maries on the river. Come down and enjoy visiting,
swimming, games and boating. Maps and a sign-up sheet can be found at the
kiosk. Hamburgers, hot dogs, plates and silverware will be provided.
SENIOR SAINTS AT-THE-LAKE
All Senior Saints are invited to a potluck on Saturday, July 23rd at the
Fredrikson's house at Spirit Lake. Bring your boat, fishing poles, and floaties.
This will be an all day event. Please bring a sack lunch and then at 5:00
p.m. we will enjoy a potluck dinner together. The Fredrikson's will arrange
rides for those who would like to carpool. A sign-up sheet can be found
at the kiosk. For more information call Carole at 623-6133.
Who's coming to dinner?
A sign-up on the kiosk is for everyone interested in hosting or being a
guest for dinner. Each month everyone's names who have signed up will be
randomly drawn from a hat. First draw will be host, and second draw will
be the guest. This will be a time to get to know each other and enjoy each
other's company, drawing us closer in our church family. Names will start
to be drawn the first or second week in July. Once your names are drawn,
the host will be responsible to contact the guest to find an evening that
is good for both parties. For more information contact Paula Morris 664-1046
or Kim Borsheim 772-0785.
Shepherd's Corner
In Matthew 28:18-20 we read of what we commonly refer to as the great commission.
In Eph. 4:11-13 we read of how we are to continue to learn and grow up in
our study and use of God's word. How we are to teach and edify one another.
In 1 Cor. 12:12-27 we also learn of how we are to grow up together as a
body, as a family.
As the church that meets here in Dalton Gardens we try to do accomplish
that in what we often refer to as our vision. This is to Win the Lost, to
Mature the Saints, and to Knit the Body together.
One method we have utilized to do this is through our Life Groups well,
and some have not used them all. As the shepherds, we encourage everyone
to be in a Life Group, and to utilize this 3-step approach. If you are not
in a Life Group, then please ask us so we can direct you to one.
