SHORT BY
STUFF DAVE SHANER
What are your memories when you think of your father? Memories differ, depending
on whether your dad is still alive. After our fathers have left us, it is
amazing the good things and the good times we remember. It is the times
you did something together or a time you heard him brag on you to someone
when he didn't know you were listening. It is some story he told about his
own growing up time which, you thought at the time was corny. You think
of the times he showed love and affection to your mother.
I doubt there has ever been a father who hasn't wished he had done some
things differently when his children were smaller. Some try to make up for
failures with their children with their grandchildren. But thank the Lord,
our children usually remember more of the good things about how they grew
up instead of the mistakes we made.
Fathers have a tremendous effect on how their children will view and handle
life, even as adults. A child which grows up without the influence of a
father will face many difficulties in forming the right attitudes toward
life.
Remember, the best thing you can ever give your child is time with them.
Take them with you. Let them see what you do when you work. Go with them.
Watch their games. Show them how to fish, golf and work. Listen to them
as they talk about their concerns and joys for life. It is just as important
to be a good listener to your child as it to tell them the information they
need to succeed. If we can teach our children to laugh, even when the joke
is on them, we will help them deal with life better. But it is equally important
for them to learn to not laugh at others when it obviously isn't funny to
them. And if there is one great lesson every child needs to learn, it is
to help those who are weak and need someone to come to their defense.
God said that one of the reasons He sent John the Baptist into the world
was to turn the hearts of fathers to their children and of children to their
fathers. We need John today. If you really want to make the world better,
your best chance is through your children.
Have a Great Week!!
"Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 'Honor your
father and mother' -- which is the first commandment with a promise
-- 'that
it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.'"
- Ephesians 6:1-3

Happy Father's
Day!

We Care
Larry West, from We Care Ministries, will be here next Sunday, June 28,
to conduct a one day soul-winning seminar. He will be preaching for the
morning worship assembly. After a meal together, the seminar will be held
that afternoon starting around 1:30 p.m. The LIFE groups will not meeting
that day and we encourage everybody to come to this seminar. This will be
a seminar on a method that has proven to be very effective in sharing your
faith with someone who does not know Christ. Be sure to be here for this
as it will give you some tools to share your faith with others more effectively.
Larry has conducted We Care Campaigns all over the United States. Thousands
of people have come to Christ through the work of the We Care cadre and
the follow-up meeting that he gives. Not only has it led many to Christ,
but the actual campaign has knit many congregations together because of
a greater sense of purpose. We were meant to be sent. The Lord has given
us a divine commission to take the good news of Jesus Christ to a lost world
(Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-16). He has no other plan than to use his
people, the church to accomplish his purposes. Most Christians feel a burden
to fulfill God's purposes but often lack a plan. The purpose of this seminar
is to give you a very workable plan. Be sure to make your plans to be here.
I know that you will enjoy it.
Shepherd's Corner
Happy Father's Day!
I know the scriptures did not proclaim this holiday, but the scriptures
do teach us to honor and appreciate others. This is a special time to honor
and thank your father's for what they have done. To thank them for their
loving, nurturing, and teaching. When your young you are thankful because
your dad is there with you and takes you places. As you get older, especially
after being a parent you are thankful, and recognize what your father has
given up for his love.
Today is extra special because we get to continue to honor and thank our
heavenly Father. To be thankful because he has provided all we need for
our spiritual lives. Thank your father's today.

Special Contribution:
A special contribution will be taken on June 26, next Sunday, for the Delta
State Church in Nigeria, West Africa. A crisis letter was received by Ralph
Crump from brother Sunday Nwadiali, a missionary. His mother a member of
the church, along with other members lived in a tenant house that was destroyed
by fire. By the end of July there is going to be an eviction notice if the
members of the church can't raise the money for rebuilding. Half of the
funds have been raised by preachers and members but $2,000 needs to be raised
as soon as possible. PLEASE HELP IN THE FUND DRIVE TO RESTORE THE BUILDING!
While Ralph was in Nigeria in 2000 he started the congregation with Sunday
Nwadiali. Brother Sunday has also established three other congregations.
There have been over 2,000 World Bible School lessons and studies held resulting
in 322 baptisms during the last five years, according to the monthly progress
report statistics.
The Bible instructs us to 'to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is
good' Titus 3:1. THIS IS A GREAT WORK with an appeal to meet the financial
building crisis. The special contributions will be taken next Sunday, June
26. Let us ARISE TO THE CHALLENGE OF NEED AND REMEMBER Jesus motivating
disciples by responding positively to his teaching, 'it is more blessed
to give than to receive' Acts 20:35. John reminds us 'whosoever has this
world's goods and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from
him, how does the love of God abide in him?'
Also please pray for the brethren, the 322 new babes in Christ in Delta
State, West Africa. They in their poverty are asking us to assist and help
in their crisis.
