SHORT BY
STUFF DAVE SHANER
Did you know that this church has 29 different
ministries that you can choose to involve yourself? The Prayer Ministry
has accomplished a great deal over the past year. There is a separate prayer
room that anyone can use to find some quiet in order to pray or meet with
a friend. For those who may be unaware of this room, it is located at the
front of the large auditorium. You don't need a special room to pray, but
if it gives you a place to seek some quiet time with the Lord, we are thankful.
Many have taken advantage of this room.
We also have the Prayer Breakfast which meets
every Tuesday morning at 6:30 a.m. at JB's restaurant on Appleway. At these
meetings, we have different themes that we spend some time in prayer over.
These include prayers for our national and local government leaders, world
happenings, our missionaries, and the work of the Dalton Gardens church.
We also take special requests and pray over all those who turned in prayer
cards on the previous Sunday. We also receive a very encouraging thought
that Margie Waddell has written out. These are so good that we have encouraged
her to put these in print. We are usually finished by 7:15 a.m. Like any
program that has been on going for a while, it needs to be built up. Many
of our regular attenders are frequently out of town. Our attendance has
been down, but if you would come and join us, I promise you that your day
will be different.
The Prayer Garden has made much improvement
since last fall. Very soon, it will be alive with color. Did you know that
the plants and flowers in the garden can be found in the Bible? There is
also a very nice fire-pit you may wish to use for a devotional with your
family or LIFE group. Feel free to use it at anytime.
Of course, the Prayer Trios have now been in place for about 6 weeks. If
you do not know who is in your trio, please see Nancy Callis or the office
to find out who you can be praying for and who is praying for you. This
is simply a method for encouraging prayer and to be sure that every individual
within the church receives special prayer on a daily basis. There are many
ministries that you could be involved. You can not be in all of them, but
the work of prayer is one that we should all be involved. It will bless
your life as well as the lives of others.
Have a Great Week!!
For we are God's workmanship,
created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance
for us to do. - Ephesians 2:10

Shepherd's Corner
This Thursday, May 5th has been set aside by President Bush as a continuation
of a program initiated by Ronald Reagan. There are many societal problems
facing our country today. Our leaders need the kind of wisdom that only
God can provide. Ask God to bless them so that they can make appropriate
decisions so that we may live in peace and in an atmosphere that promotes
Christianity.
We would like to encourage each one of you to come and be uplifted as the
Cascade Choir performs for us this Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. in the
large auditorium. We hope to see you there and bring a friend!

Company's Coming!
We know this is a busy time at everyone's home, but if everyone could spend
1 hour this weekend helping to weed, our Garden of Prayer will be presentable
for next week when Cascade comes to visit. Remember, the green sticks means
there is a plant there. Also, if you would like to buy plants for the Garden
and give them to Georgette Rude to plant, there is a list of specific plants
that are being requested on the Garden of Prayer easel in the foyer.

Search Committee Communications
I have been requested to chair the search committee for future staffing
related to the vacancy created upon the cessation of our Brother Mike Reeves'
staff services to the Dalton Gardens congregation. Guiding principles to
lead us through the selection process are to be:
* Involvement - First order is to establish what is needed and wanted for
an effective ministry involving current families and their children. Looking
beyond the 'what is' to that of effective outreach to the community is an
additional primary concern. In plain English, a clear and concise 'Position
Description' must be crafted. This is most logically done with those who
have children, teens, and young adults currently within the household. Of
course, others are welcome to share in the determination process.
An open meeting is scheduled Sunday, May 15th between 3 & 5 p.m., Small
Auditorium. Each one's perception, insight, suggestion, vision and hope
for the future is desired. The aim of our time together is to come to some
consensus and clarity of the scope of future staffing. This becomes the
basis for seeking an individual or couple to lead us toward desired goals.
* Participatory Decision Making - Among interest groups, representatives
will be selected to serve on the Search Committee. Ideal size is 5 to 7
members. Everyone who desires to serve on the committee may not be able
to serve. But, you will be able to have a voice through your parent, teen,
deacon, or other interest group representation.
Personally, I am traveling to Arizona and California and will not return
till May 7, following the Pepperdine Lectures. Should you wish to communicate
with me in the next couple of weeks, use my e-mail. (cisd@earthlink.net)
I feel a parting comment is in order. Like a death or divorce, when an adverse
situation is set up with cessation of employment, it is normal to feel hurt,
anger and grief. After a period, there is a time to face the future with
renewed vigor. This principle is seen in the story of David with the loss
of a child. 11 Samuel 12:16-23. Let us come together on the 15th with a
renewed heart, looking forward to the task at hand.

Youth Happenings
An interim committee has been put together to help facilitate teen activities
over the next few months. If you would like to help out in any way, please
see either Paul or Katrina Swaim, Dave or Terry Johnson, Scott or Karmen
Rouse, or Chris Rouse.
