SHORT BY
STUFF DAVE SHANER
Currently our Sunday morning lessons as well
as our LIFE groups are involved in a series of lessons entitled Living Life
on Purpose. We have seen thus far that we have a purpose here on earth,
namely to reveal the glory of God to all. Doing so, will make everything
we do more meaningful. My salvation is all about God; my sanctification
is all about God; my service is all about God and my suffering is all about
God. Everything we do is because of it being all about God. The church is
bigger than any person. It is bigger than the preacher, the elder's, or
anybody else. We need to remember that as we go through different times
of transitions. We have also seen that God created each of us for His good
pleasure. It pleased God to create you. Being made for a purpose means that
we need to fulfill what we were made for. It gives God great joy when you
are doing what he made you to do. We must not put anything before him. We
must choose to adore and worship him. When we do this, the by-product of
this is that we will find great pleasure ourselves. The way to be happy
is not to pursue happiness, but as the old song says, 'the way to be happy
is to make someone happy.' We must have a purpose that is bigger than ourselves.
Psalm 16 says that when we put God first in everything, "my heart is glad
and my tongue rejoices.' Is what you are doing now making God smile?
Generally, brothers and sisters in a physical family tend to look alike.
Have you also noticed that a husband and wife who have been married for
a while tend to look alike as well? God's intent is that we take on his
family likeness. Spiritually speaking, what do you look like? Jesus told
Philip that 'any one who has seen me has seen the father?' Can we eliminate
habits and all semblance of sin that takes away the image of Jesus in us?
God gives us the presence of the Holy Spirit, the gift of the church, and
even the gift of tough circumstances to give us more opportunities to grow
in our image of him. Let's all take the time to get in shape so we can reflect
His image.
Have a Great Week!!
In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ,
in accordance with his pleasure and will to the praise of his glorious grace,
which he has freely given us in the One he loves.
-Ephesians 1:5-6

Prayer Trios
We hope that you are all being blessed through the loving care and prayers
of your prayer trios! Be sure to keep diligently praying for one another.
If you have an uplifting story about your prayer trio - prayers answered,
new friendships, growing faith - please share that with us by contacting
Paul Swaim at 964-0126 or placing a note in his box. These stories may be
shared in a future bulletin or announcement as an encouragement. Thank you!

Ladies' Craft Day!
Bring your projects and join the fun! We are having a ladies craft day on
Saturday, April 30th, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the small auditorium.
You should bring your craft supplies, a lunch, a dish to share for a potluck
supper, and a small craft supply item to donate as a prize for lots of drawings.
There will be craft BINGO, snacks, fellowship and lots of fun! If you're
not a crafter, come and learn something new. Join us for all or part of
this fun-filled (and productive) day. All are welcome, so bring a friend!
THE 62nd ANNUAL PEPPERDINE BIBLE LECTURES
As we near the 62nd Annual Pepperdine Bible Lectures, we ask for your prayers
for God's work in those who will participate in this year's program. Each
year, the work is rewarded by letters that recount blessings received as
a result of the Bible Lectures. We give glory to God, and we ask that you
contribute your prayers toward the people and churches that will be directed
by God, May 3-6. Join us! Call Church Relations at (310) 506-4270 for a
booklet, or visit www.pepperdine.edu/churchrelations.
Cascade College Choir
The Cascade College Choir from Portland, Oregon will be here to sing for
us on Wednesday, May 4 at 6:30 p.m. Your help housing this group of about
40 students and providing breakfast for them Thursday morning would be greatly
appreciated. There is a sign up sheet on the kiosk. For more information
see Dan Dupey.
Shepherd's Corner
This past week has been difficult for this congregation. But Scriptures
tell us that God is faithful and will not allow us to be tempted or burdened
beyond what we can bear, because He will also provide a way out so that
we can stand up under it. Church, please take comfort in this verse: James
1:12 "Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial,
because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that
God has promised to those who love Him".

Ladies Mark Your Calendars!!
The Lewiston Church of Christ ladies group is hosting a ladies camp at Puffer
Butte Lodge in Fields Spring State Park on April 29th, 30th, and May 1st.
This is a time of encouragement and to learn more about being a 'Beacon
for Christ'! If anyone is interested in attending this, please get a copy
of the registration form from Kim in the office.
Africa International Missions
Roger Dickson has requested prayers as that ministry is about to enter into
some great open doors God has made available. Special effort will be made
in two nations and one region in the next few months. Adventures in Life
Project / AfriBible, a course on morals and character development for public
schools, is being introduced in both Malawi and Ghana. Roger is making a
strategic trip to Malawi early May, a trip he has been working on for a
year. His goal is for 1000 schools to want to offer the Adventures
course to students. Once a school offers the course to students, then
the follow up is the distribution of the Study New Testament for those
who complete the course. This will result in reaching the cream of
future spiritual leaders of a community.
Work is being done to introduce the project into Ghana. Mid May he is having
a special meeting with school principals in the Venda region of South Africa.
2005 is the year of launching the Adventures/AfriBible which has been in
development the past six years. This is a major evangelistic project to
reach million in Africa. He certainly needs our special prayers as the
launch is at hand.
Congratulations!
Dan and Teri Dupey are proud to announce that their son, James is graduating
Magna Cum Laude receiving a degree of Bachelor of Arts in Bible Ministry
from Cascade College on Saturday, April 30, 2005 at 2:00 p.m.

Search Committee Communications
I have been requested to chair the search committee for future staffing
related to the vacancy created upon the cessation of our Brother Mike Reeves'
staff services to the Dalton Gardens congregation. Guiding principles to
lead us through the selection process are to be:
* Involvement - First order is to establish what is needed and wanted for
an effective ministry involving current families and their children. Looking
beyond the 'what is' to that of effective outreach to the community is an
additional primary concern. In plain English, a clear and concise 'Position
Description' must be crafted. This is most logically done with those who
have children, teens, and young adults currently within the household. Of
course, others are welcome to share in the determination process.
An open meeting is scheduled Sunday, May 15th between 3 & 5 p.m., Small
Auditorium. Each one's perception, insight, suggestion, vision and hope
for the future is desired. The aim of our time together is to come to some
consensus and clarity of the scope of future staffing. This becomes the
basis for seeking an individual or couple to lead us toward desired goals.
* Participatory Decision Making - Among interest groups, representatives
will be selected to serve on the Search Committee. Ideal size is 5 to 7
members. Everyone who desires to serve on the committee may not be able
to serve. But, you will be able to have a voice through your parent, teen,
deacon, or other interest group representation.
Personally, I am traveling to Arizona and California and will not return
till May 7, following the Pepperdine Lectures. Should you wish to communicate
with me in the next couple of weeks, use my e-mail. (cisd@earthlink.net)
I feel a parting comment is in order. Like a death or divorce, when an adverse
situation is set up with cessation of employment, it is normal to feel hurt,
anger and grief. After a period, there is a time to face the future with
renewed vigor. This principle is seen in the story of David with the loss
of a child. 11 Samuel 12:16-23. Let us come together on the 15th with a
renewed heart, looking forward to the task at hand.

Youth Happenings

over the next few months. If you would like to help out in any way, please
see either Paul or Katrina Swaim, Dave or Terry Johnson, Scott or Karmen
Rouse, or Chris Rouse.
C.C.S. School News
Opportunity by Dan DuPey
God gives us an opportunity every day! We have been sent out to do His
works. Do we see it? Do we walk past it? Are we aware of how much difference
WE can make in someone's life? Needs are all around us. People need the
Lord. Are we praying for those that we know are in need? Have we encouraged
anyone today? Have we called or written a special note? Have we been benevolent?
Jesus has instructed us to emulate Him; do what He has done! He said, "I
have come to serve, not to be served." He was certainly the great example
for us to follow. We want the "world" to look at us and SEE the difference. We want others to desire to be like us; to care, encourage, and love like
we do. To have the understanding and wisdom about where we are going and
what life is all about right now!
It is about serving and devotion. It is about following the duties given
to us as His army. When we serve, we are blessed. When we encourage, we
are encouraged. Opportunity is always around us. Our hearts should be touched
and overflow with a "How can I help" attitude!
Cascade College Concert Choir will be arriving here on Wednesday, May
4th! This will be a great time of fellowship, entertainment, and encouragement.
We NEED housing for all 46 of them! Can you help? Can you serve? We need
help in the following way:
1. Members willing to keep 2-4 students (or more) for the night.
2. This will be Wednesday evening after services.
3. Provide breakfast on Thursday morning.
4. Provide a loving Christian attitude while we have them!
Auction: We thank all of you so much for attending our school auction.
We feel it was a great success. These funds are always extremely helpful
in helping the school meet budget expenses. We appreciate all you and your participation.
We would like to thank Georgette Rude, Jamie Bradshaw, Cheryl Mullaly, and
Kathy & Steve Taylor for all their EXTRA work concerning our
auction. THANK-YOU!
