SHORT  BY
STUFF   DAVE SHANER

As mentioned last week, we have many upcoming activities that we can take advantage of to deepen our walk with God and to be of encouragement to one another. One that I did not mention is that on Wednesday evening, May 4, the Cascade chorus will be here to sing for us. Over the years, even though Cascade is a smaller college, they have consistently ranked with the best of choruses. This would be a great opportunity to invite a friend to come and hear the gospel sung to them. Be here too for your encouragement as well as be a blessing to them.

As we go through life, not every thing goes as we scripted. Many people have received college degrees only to find out that they need to work in a different field. Often times, things hit us unexpectedly that cause us to reevaluate what we are doing and the direction we are heading. Our families can go through times of crisis at the time when we can afford it the least. And most importantly, our faith goes through times of testing often leaving us to wonder why God allows us to go through what He does. No one ever goes through life unscathed. No one ever goes through life without having their faith tested and tried.

It is not always easy to follow the words of Jesus. That is why He describes two ways that you can travel through your life. The broad way is often more appealing and easier. But few people realize the bitter fruits of not following God until they get to the end of the road. The narrow way, in some ways, may be more difficult, but it is not because the demands of God are difficult, but more out of a sense of disobedient pride that says, 'I want to rule and control my own life.' But for all disciples of Christ, we know that following God enables us to sleep easier at night and provides a greater sense of purpose particularly when crisis hits. Jesus said, 'In this world you will find trouble. But take heart! I have over come the world.' - John 16:33. But I am also reminded of the apostle John's comment, 'This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world.' - I John 5:3-4. Shari Swaim used to say, 'Yard by yard, life is hard. Inch by inch, it's a cinch.' Live one day at a time putting all your trust in the Lord.

Have a Great Week!!

In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. -Ephesians 1:5-6

CAMP PRINCES' PINE SPECIAL CONTRIBUTION
So many in this congregation have enjoyed activities at Camp Princes' Pine. The camp has been a part of our spiritual lives for 25 years. It would be interesting to know how many from Dalton Gardens were baptized there or as a result of spending a week there. Many have served as counselors or cooks at the camp, and hundreds have attended as campers. It has been a source of blessings to so many.

The cost of construction, upkeep, and improvements has been borne by individuals over the years, as we have continually tried to keep camper fees at a minimum. This year the board felt compelled to raise the fee from $65 to $75 per camper, per week, and we need the assistance of all congregations who use the camp to pay for some much-needed repairs and updating of bathroom facilities.

Your help is needed TODAY for a special contribution to help with the good work at Camp Princes' Pine. Plan ahead, and make checks payable to Northwest Christian Camp (NWCC), and let's keep our camp in good repair, and on strong financial footing.

Shepherd's Corner
In life, many things can happen that we just don't understand, nor have an answer for. Those are the times that require serious communication with God. Through PRAYER and BIBLE Study, our Heavenly Father can ease concerns, give comfort, and provide hope. "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord". Romans 8: 38-39

With Thankful Hearts
Honoring some of God's servants among us has proved one of our most cherished traditions at the Pepperdine Bible Lectures. Throughout our gatherings, church leaders, missionaries, ministers and their families receive recognition for their service to God. Appreciation dinners give us the opportunity to say 'thank you' to others for their contributions to the kingdom. Join these celebrations, May 3-6. Call Church Relations at (310) 506-4270, or visit our website at www.pepperdine.edu/churchrelations.

C.C.S. School News
Mid April. Fourth quarter. We are now in that final sprint of the school year race. We have diligently worked up hill and easily strode down hill. We have experienced the rains of sorrow and worry, and bathed in the sunshine of joy. The scenery along the way has been unsurpassed. This year will soon enough be a memory.

But we have time in our final two months to fit in a few more memories. Along with all the fun learning activities we will be experiencing, we have some great events coming up, starting with the school auction April 22nd. This will be a grand evening of 40's glamour and great deals. Please come and join us (tickets are available in the school office). We also be enjoying the Scholastic Book Fair along with a parent/teacher BBQ on Thursday, May 5. Then, May 17, we will all be going to see the production of 'Beauty and the Beast' at North Idaho College.
We are now catching our 2nd wind and going for it!
