SHORT  BY
STUFF   DAVE SHANER

Today is the day that is recognized as the day that Jesus Christ was raised from the dead. If you are a guest with us today, we are glad that you are here and would like to welcome you to the Lord's worship assembly. Just being here let's us know that you want to know more about God's will.

The Dalton Gardens church seeks to simply be an undenominational group of believers. We use the New Testament as a pattern for how the church should be today. The denominational world today represents many different "Christian" beliefs that have been formulated over years of traditions. Many times, the changes that took place to develop these denominations were a positive step closer to the Bible but many times they were over man's opinions not over what the Bible says. In either case, the end result is a fracturing of Christianity into many groups all claiming to be going to the same place but on different roads. Although it is difficult to escape denominational trappings and the environment one has become accustomed to, we seek to just go back to the Bible to be in the 20th century what Christians were in the 1st century. Jesus, himself, prayed that all believers would be one - John 17:21. The only way to accomplish that unity that Jesus prayed for is to go back to the pattern laid out for us in the New Testament. God's Word is the one thing that we can unite on.
Going back to the teachings of the scriptures, you find many distinctive things about becoming a Christian and how the church is to function. For example, in order to become a Christian, one must believe with all of his heart that Jesus is really God's Son and as such, Lord and Savior. He must then turn from sin (repent) and be immersed into Christ. This is the only way the scriptures teach that one can be saved. These believers would meet regularly for mutual encouragement and to receive instruction on Christian living. During these meetings on the first day of every week, they would take the Lord's Supper together. They would sing from their hearts praises to God that would encourage one another. As a group, they were committed not only to the Lord and his purposes, but also to one another for either spiritual or physical needs. New Testament Christians recognize that this world is not our home. We are just passing through to a city that God has prepared on the other side. If we can ever be of assistance to you on your pilgrimage of faith, please don't hesitate to call us.

'Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen!'  -Luke 24:5-6

Church History
We would like to compile an accurate history of the Dalton Gardens congregation. If you would like to help us put this together please contact Dave Shaner.

Shepherd's Corner
Our mission statement of the Dalton Gardens Church is 1 - Mature the saints, 2 - Knit the body in love and 3 - Win the lost. Winning the lost at Dalton Gardens is our priority, but it does not stop there. It involves also planting new congregations to carry out the great commission. To plant another congregation requires church growth on our part.

1. Growing churches are convinced that they must evangelize the world. They aren't waiting for others to do it. SOUL WINNING IS PRIORITY ONE IN THESE CONGREGATIONS.
2. Growing churches set goals. They know where they are going. Plans are made for 1 to 5 years in advance. Plans cover all areas of growth.
3. Growing churches give special attention to communications. Every member must know what is going on and his/her part in it.
4. Many have expressed a interest in seeing a congregation started in Rathdrum. Effective church planting, depends upon the Lord. Church planting doesn't just happen. It must be planned and worked on to become a reality.
Please read the insert 'Gleaning from McGavran' that discusses essential principles about church growth, evangelizing and the mission to 'Win the Lost'.

The Influence of The Christ
¥ Why would a carpenter's son from a dusty village in an insignificant country 2000 years ago make the biggest impact on the world in all recorded history?
¥ Jesus of Nazareth, by human standards was a nobody. He was poor, unpopular, seen as a fanatic and trouble maker; and ultimately died a miserable, torturous, bloody death at the hands of his own people.
¥ Why would such a man then become the most well known and influential person in all the world's history?
¥ Why not Alexander the Great? Or Nero? Or Hitler? Or Henry Ford? Or Howard Hughes? Or Stalin? Or Gandhi?
¥ The world has produced thousands of people who SHOULD have become more influential than this lowly nobody from Israel.
¥ But history shows Jesus Christ as a man who changed the world, changed societies, changed lives and changed hearts of men and women everywhere who hear His name and believe His teaching. Everywhere that He is embraced brings wholesomeness, goodness, transformed lives from misery to happiness; transformed societies from cruel to compassionate.
¥ History shows Jesus, the Son of God, fulfilling everything that God said would happen in the Bible. Without question, he has been, and is, the single most influential person who has ever lived.

The Real Lesson Every person has fallen at some time in his life - most, many times. Peter's steps in denying Christ have since been traced by every human foot. Anyone can understand how he could have slept in the garden, when he should have watched and prayed. Most of us feel an almost unconscious sympathy for him. But there is something in Peter's life that is much greater than his sin. It is his repentance. We all too easily relate to Peter in his weakness, but few of us grasp the wonder of his change. Sinful Peter is one man, and repentant Peter another. That is the real lesson in his life...
"And Peter went out and wept bitterly."
From 'Bread and Wine' by Henry Drummond

C.C.S. School News
Spring break. A time to rest and rejuvenate. A most welcomed time! The stretch between spring break and the end of school seems to go more quickly than any other during the school year. There is so much to accomplish before the end of school. We have just finished up with Stanford testing and the school science/art fair and talent show. It was an evening of great entertainment, and I think we may have learned a little something about some of our friends' hidden talents! Over the next few weeks we have several big events coming up for our third grade class as well as for the school. The auction is on April 22nd and as this is our major fundraiser for the year, we hope that each of you can support the school in this effort by attending. It promises to be an evening of fun and it is so important for the school. Please prayerfully consider your support in this effort. We are looking forward to the arrival of the book fair the first week of May. You may already purchase gift certificates for teachers, the library, students, or anyone else now. The school office has these available. Make plans on coming to the fair and looking for some great titles!

Our third grade class has a lot going on, as well. After a first place finish in the science fair, we are now finishing up our reading book /Because of Winn-Dixie/, and will be taking field trips to Cat Tales and Riverfront Park in Spokane, and our whole school is going to see a live musical production of Beauty and the Beast that will be held at NIC. We will be busy over the next few months and would appreciate your prayers! -Mrs. Taylor

Church Library
We have a very good church library!' I'd like to encourage you to visit and enjoy the feast that is there.

Irene Clark is working in the library these days and trying to get it all catalogued and keep it organized for us. There are books for Bible study and self-improvement and home and family, spiritual growth, and just for the joy of reading. There are videos on a number of topics for your enrichment, but they are still kept in the office conference room, and may be checked out there.

There are ways you can help with the library:
1. Maybe you could give Irene a hand.
2. Donate books or videos?
3. Give money to buy books?
4. Put books in the library as a memorial to someone?

When checking out books or videos, please:
1. Return them promptly when finished.
2. Always sign the card in the book and put it in the box provided.
3. Don't put the book back on the shelf. Put it in the proper place so the card can be returned to it before it is replaced on the shelf.

Enjoy the library!

Information regarding the Auction can be found on the C.C.S. bulletin board in the foyer. Donations are now being accepted for the C.C.S. 2005 Auction. Please see Georgette Rude. Thanks!
