SHORT  BY
STUFF   DAVE SHANER

This week we have revisited the Passion of the Christ. I'm not talking about the movie, but the actual story that the movie was based upon. It is a real story, you know. How many times have you heard it? Are you tired of it? I hope not because it is still just as real as if it happened today. Romans 5:5 says that "God demonstrates his love for us in this that Christ died for us." Did you notice anything special about that verse? I would have expected the author to say "demonstrated" but he uses "demonstrates" in the present tense. In other words the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross is an event that God is still using to reconcile all men to Him. The reason that Jesus came to earth is "to seek and save the lost." - Luke 19:10. He did not come to save the good, but to save the lost. He will not send anybody to hell. We were already lost before he came. Therefore He is not the problem but the solution to our greatest need.

Jesus went to the cross joyfully knowing that it meant salvation to all who placed their faith in him. But never think it was easy for Him to endure the process. He dreaded going to the cross because of the battle against the powers of this world and the alienation that he knew he had to face from His Father. As we go throughout this week, let's focus on the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. I Corinthians 15:1-4 says that these three items are the essence of the gospel, the good news of Christ.

Next Sunday, we will celebrate the resurrection. We will start our day off with a special "Sunrise Service" at 6:30 a.m. in the Prayer Garden. Last year we had several guests from the community and I still remember the sun coming up over Canfield mountain and almost outlining the empty tomb as we got to that part in the service. We will still have our regular Bible classes and 10:15 a.m. service, but the sunrise service gives us one more opportunity to meet together, to praise God together, and to provide one more door to introduce a friend to the Lord. More people will attend some kind of church next Sunday than any other Sunday this entire year! Be sure to invite your friends and neighbors to come to our regular service. In the words of Paul, we need to "redeem the time."

Have a Great Week !!

God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. -II Corinthians 5:21

Shepherd's Corner
Recently someone came up to me, and asked why the elders go up front on Sunday morning. My initial response was that it was suggested that we try this. After I thought about this for awhile I began to remember why we liked this suggestion.

All of the elders go up as one to edify, encourage, and to challenge each one here in their spiritual walk with God. As elders we don't always feel comfortable going up in front of people, but if we can edify, encourage, and challenge you we are willing to accept discomfort.

As we find in1 Corinthians 14, whatever we do as we meet together we should edify each other. This is repeated again in Hebrews 10:23-25. This is the desire of the eldership; to encourage and challenge each of you.

LTC Phoenix Convention is March 24th - 27th. Yes, our plane leaves Spokane at 8:15 Thursday morning so we will leave the church building at 6:00 am this Thursday, and return to the Spokane airport at 7:03 pm Sunday evening. DALTON GARDENS YOUTH RALLY
MIQVAH 2005 is history

We Thank You,
Another Dalton Gardens Youth Rally is complete, and thanks to the Christ-like servanthood of so many in this church family, it was a great success. MIQVAH 2005, made a powerful impact on the lives of about 200 young people plus their sponsors, as well as on those of us who were blessed with the opportunity to serve them and Him. An event like this requires the cooperative efforts of a team of committed workers. It is gratifying to be a part of such a team, and be blessed with your friendship. I wanted to personally thank you for your love and for your helpfulness. The supportiveness of our elders and the whole congregation is wonderful. Special thanks to our teens and their adult helpers who worked hard to prepare for and teach the classes, as well as their work in decorating...doing the art-work... making masks...etc., etc. Thanks to all who opened their homes for our guests, who prepared food for and served at the banquet , prepared and served lunches for Sunday, baked / bought cookies, arranged housing, decorated, cleaned, set-up & took down. And, thanks to our young people for being great host and hostesses, and for their Christ-like attitudes. I believe this year's rally truly touched hearts with the challenge of genuine Christianity. I believe, with God's wonderful help, we really made a difference. God is so good!!

It's time to start planning for summer camps at Camp Prince's Pines:

Music Camp June 19 - 25
All-Teen Camp June 26 - July 2
Senior Camp July 31 - August 6
Junior Camp August 7 - 13
Pre-Teen Camp August 14 - 20

C.C.S. School News
Have you ever heard anyone make the statement, 'You cannot be a Christian if you are a scientist'? I believe that anyone who is truly a scientist would have to be a Christian. In fact, the Bible told of many scientific truths long before 'scientists' discovered them. Here are just a few:

1. The earth is a sphere. Isaiah 40:22
2. Earth is suspended in space. Job 26:7
3. Ocean currents flow through the sea. Psalm 8:8
4. Blood sustains life. Leviticus 17:11
5. The winds form a circulating system. Eccles. 1:6

On Thursday night, we enjoyed viewing projects that our C.C.S. scientists have been working on. We were very impressed by all of the hard work displayed. The science fair awards were as follows:

Kindergarten Group Projects:
1st place - K4 'Paper Making'
2nd place - K5 'Beta Fish'

Primary Group Projects:
1st place - 3rd grade 'Bats'
2nd place - 1st & 2nd grades 'Eagles'
3rd place - 1st & 3rd grades 'Plants'

Lower Wing Individual Projects:
1st place - K4 Thomas Taylor 'Senses'
2nd place - 3rd grade Alex Gwin 'Computers'

Upper Wing Individual Projects:
4th and 5th grades
1st place - Ryan Davis 'Engines'
2nd place - Jamie Rehms 'Tasty to the Tum, Tum' - Christine Mullaly 'Fossils'
3rd place - Catherine Robb 'Terrarium'

6th - 8th grades
1st place - Joshua Nelson 'Goofy Goo' - Kody Oak 'Plant & Animal Cells'
2nd place - Jenna Davis and Erika Valenzuela 'Astronomy'
3rd place - Alan Frisk and Ronnie Ross 'Straw Bridges'

Ryan Davis's engine project was the grand prize winner. We are very proud of all of our scientists.

Information regarding the CCS Auction can be found on the C.C.S. bulletin board in the foyer. Donations are now being accepted for the C.C.S. 2005 Auction. Please see Georgette Rude. Thanks!
