SHORT BY
STUFF DAVE SHANER
Next Sunday, we will be having a special dinner
honoring all of those who are new to this congregation over the last year.
We have had 39 new people who have either been baptized into Christ or identified
themselves with the Dalton congregation. Be sure to be a part of this special
welcoming and join us in this potluck.
We have focused our assemblies for the last
several weeks on fulfilling the Great Commission of Jesus. In sharing the
gospel, there are several concepts that need to be understood by anyone
desiring to become a disciple of Jesus. It is incumbent upon the soul-winner
to learn to communicate these essentials clearly. The first of these concepts
is to understand that we are all sinners and as a result stand condemned
before God. Humanism glorifies the good in man, not the evil. We want to
think the best of any man. There are many good people in the world. The
problem with this statement is that it measures goodness by the wrong standard.
God is the standard. When we compare ourselves by ourselves we are without
understanding.
Jesus did not come to the world because we were
so good. He did not come because we were already going to heaven because
of our good deeds. Jesus said, "I did not come to call the righteous, but
the sick." God did not send His son to the world to condemn us. We were
already condemned because of our sinful nature. He sent His one and only
Son to earth to save the world. As long as I cling to the mistaken notion
that God will save me because I am such a good person, then I am not in
a position to be saved. The crowd on Pentecost came to Christ and were baptized
only after being cut to their hearts.
For the good news to truly be good news, we
must understand the bad news. But in that discovery, we humble ourselves
to be ready to receive the kingdom of God. Baptism is the ultimate act of
submission declaring that God will save me. Baptism merits nothing. It is
an act of faith acting as a conduit whereby we receive the grace of God.
Be sure to be praying everyday this week for
someone specifically by name for them to come to Christ. Prayer opens door
for us to all preach the gospel.
Have a Great Week!!
I tell you, no! But unless
you repent, you too will all perish. - Luke 13:3

New Picture Board
We're now in the process of adding pictures to our new picture board which
is located in the main foyer. If you did not appear in our last pictorial
directory or your marital/family status has changed, be sure to get your
picture taken as soon as possible. Dave Hopkins, from the communication
ministry, will be available for picture taking down in the kitchen following
our Sunday morning church service today.
New Members' Fellowship Meal
on Sunday, February 27th
All those who are new in the Dalton Gardens Church Family, since the beginning
of 2004 to the present, are invited to be our HONORED GUESTS for a potluck
fellowship to be right after worship on Sunday morning, February 27th. There
are a total of thirty-nine including seventeen baptized, and twenty-two
who have moved here. 'Old members,' we need to be sure we bring enough food
for our families and several others. Let's make it a great celebration together.
If you'd like special food assignments, ask George or Joanna.
Be sure to check out the new Benevolence Board!
This is an area to find those in our congregation who are in need, or to
place a need of your own. Our members have a great desire to serve, and
this will help give those generous hearts an opportunity! Check your box
or the kiosk in the foyer for more information. Please direct any questions
to Paul Swaim. (964-0126)

of the Richland church.
March 11th - 13th, only a month away, is MIQVAH 2005! and this will be our
27th annual Youth Rally! This year's theme .....
'EVERYBODY'S NORMAL TILL YOU GET TO KNOW THEM'
As always, the youth rally requires the cooperation of our whole church
family. PLEASE start now to plan for hosting some of our guests in your
home. Your help is needed!
And... LTC Phoenix Convention is March 24th - 27th. We have some students
who need help with their plane fares. If you can help out in this way, please
let us know. $10 or $300 would be great!
Don't forget to wish Austin Shaner a Happy 17th Birthday!!!...this Friday
Whew!!!! if we make it to the first of April, we'll try to take a breath!!
Yeah, it's a little much all at once. But because of no snow, we postponed
our winter events and crowded our schedule. We do have snow at camp now,
so I hope it was worth it. Pray for us during this blitz.
A mother went out shopping one morning and unexpectedly met her son in town.
Angry that he had skipped school, she demanded that he tell her why he was
not in class. She listened patiently to his explanation and then replied,
'I'm not accusing you of telling a lie, but I have never heard of a school
that gives time off for good behavior.'
At the opposite end of the spectrum was the dentist, who said to his patient,
hypodermic needle in hand, 'You might feel a little sting. On the other
hand, it might feel as though you have been kicked in the mouth by a mule.'
As much as we say we always want to be told the truth, sometimes the truth
hurts. But it never hurts as much as being told a lie. Telling the truth
includes being honest about ourselves - about our own nature, our sins and
our faults. It means confessing that we aren't perfect and that we don't
always do what is right before God or in relationships to others. When we
lie about ourselves, we become self-deprecating, and we rarely seek ways
to grow and fulfill more of our potential.
Tell the truth to others....and especially to yourself.
