SHORT BY
STUFF DAVE SHANER
There will be a lot of snowbirds and others gone over the next few weeks.
Little do they know that it may be warmer here than other places. And many
from here will be leaving this week for a Caribbean cruise. We really feel
sorry for you. Be sure to keep our travelers in your prayers.
Next week is our quarterly Sunday Night Live program. We will be having
some very special speakers, including Robert Frisk, Mark Mood, and ... the
apostle Paul himself. Our LIFE groups and LTC will not be meeting that night
to encourage maximum participation from everyone. It will be meeting at
5:30 p.m. in the smaller auditorium. The main reason we meet together is
for the purpose of encouragement. Hebrews 10:24-25 says that we are to 'consider
how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give
up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage
one another 'and all the more as you see the Day approaching.' Be sure to
come and be an encouragement to each other. It is hard to be an encouragement
by being absent.
If you are not currently attending a LIFE group, now is the time to choose
to do so. It is a time of prayer, Bible study, and encouragement. It is
a great way to introduce your friends and neighbors to the Dalton Gardens
church. Our Wednesday morning group is now meeting at Heritage Place in
the 4th floor foyer. They will be studying Christ's parables and miracles
from the book of Luke. It meets at 10 a.m. Come and join us. There are many
other LIFE groups that meet throughout the community. We are also planning
to start about 10 more groups by April. We would encourage you to be involved
in these.
Next Sunday morning, Shawn Moore, the preacher from the Northside congregation,
in Spokane, and I will be 'swapping' pulpits. Whenever there are 5 Sundays
in a month, the elders have encouraged us to try this type of arrangement
with other sister congregations so that we can keep in better touch and
share resources.
Have a Great Week!!
Go into all the world and preach the gospel. He who
believes and is baptized shall be saved but he who does not believe shall
be condemned.
- Mark 16:15-16

New Picture Board
We're now in the process of adding pictures to our new picture board which
is located in the main foyer. If you did not appear in our last pictorial
directory or your marital/family status has changed, be sure to get your
picture taken as soon as possible. Someone from the communication ministry
will be available for picture taking in the nursery following our Sunday
morning church services for the next three weeks.
Sunday Night Live!
Next Sunday, January 30 at 5:30 pm, we will be having an evening worship
assembly. All of our LIFE Groups will be meeting here instead of their normal
meeting times. We will be doing this whenever there is a 5th Sunday in a
given month. This gives our leaders a break plus allows us to get together
to learn new songs, pray together, and enjoy each other's fellowship.

Sweetheart Banquet & Auction
If you thought you were only getting dinner then you are in for a treat.
Some of our LTC participants and their adult chaperones will be auctioning
their time off! Yes, that's right 'Slaves'. Just in time for spring! So
make your list check it twice, because you have approximately 3 1/2 weeks
to figure out some ways to put your slaves to work! Interested parties for
dinner and auction should sign up on the list on the kiosk. Tickets for
this great event will be on sale today from the LTC participants. Please
sign up and purchase tickets as soon as possible as space is limited. Thanks
Patty Welter.
Swimming at the "Y"
The Tweener's are going swimming at the YMCA in Spokane on Feb. 5th. at
2 pm. We will meet at the YMCA in the Valley to swim and slide on their
big inside slide. Then we will go eat at Boston Pizza. The cost of swimming
is $20 for a family, $10 an adult, or $5 per kid of 18 and younger, which
ever is the cheapest for you. Please bring your own lock to secure your
stuff in the locker room and bring tennis shoes for climbing the rock wall
and don't forget any other swimming devices your kidos might need. For questions
call Alyssa Frahm 665-5851.
Shepherd's Corner
Have you ever had the opportunity to tell someone of a special event that
has happened in your life? Did it make you feel important or special? Did
others take delight or comfort in your story? It seems that we feel comfortable
in telling stories about our lives, especially when we are with people we
know. Strangers may make us a little uncomfortable, but we still seem to
be able to share, especially when we are encouraged. Sharing our experience
with God and Christ can be just as wonderful as sharing our life experiences,
because in reality, they are the same thing. You do not have to be pushy
or insensitive to share the Gospel with your friends and neighbors. Just
be yourself. Let the aroma of Christ shine through you. May God bless your
efforts to share with others?
-For the Elders
Come join us for Prayer Breakfast on Tuesday mornings, at 6:30 a.m. at JB's
Restaurant
on Appleway for prayer and encouragement!
Dusty humor from Togo
We are enduring our season of extreme dust and the coldest temperatures
we remember ever having here in Northern Togo! Our thermometer is broken,
but temperatures have felt like they're in the 60s and maybe even upper
50s at night and in the early mornings. Becky is wearing long pants and
sweatshirts around, while Dave is enjoying the cooler weather and we're
trying to keep the kids clothed in warmer apparel, especially at night.
If you were to receive this newsletter via snail mail, the paper you'd be
reading would be very, very dusty. Last week the north winds from the Sahara
blew in with a vengeance and so we have been living in a thick haze of dust.
There are lots of negative things about all this dust, but we've tried to
think of some positives. Here are a few:
1. The cool, dry air at night allows us to actually use all of the bed covers.
2. You don't have to wash your car because it would be pointless.
3. The dawn is very dim which tricks the kids into sleeping past 6 am.
4. It is fun (kind of) to imagine that the poor visibility is due to snow,
not dust.
5. If your 1 yr. old wanders off in the house, you can track him down by
following the trail he left in all the dust that has accumulated on floor
(even if it has just been mopped!).
In spite of this, the good work continues, and two more men were baptized
in the village of Bodowda. The whole report can be read online at

*********
Is the Bible really true? I mean, all of it? Really? The answer is an unequivocal
yes, but many people, even Christians, struggle with that. Our 'Christian'
culture is saturated with doubts about the Bible that undermine the strength
of our faith and our churches.
Jesus did all he could to take away the doubts and fill us with absolute
trust in himself and the scripture. In his death Jesus seemed determined
to accomplish the fulfillment of scriptures, and gave us so much proof of
the truth of scripture.
***The betrayal of Jesus by Judas occurred 'to bring about what the scripture
said. 'Jn.13:18
***The gamble for the clothing took place 'so that this scripture would
come true: 'They divided my garments among them, and they threw lots for
my clothes.'' Jn.19:24
***The legs of Christ were not broken' to make the scripture come true:
'Not one of his bones will be broken.'' Jn.19:36
***The side of Jesus was pierced to fulfill the passage that says, 'They
will look at the one they stabbed. 'Jn.19:37
Why the recurring references to scripture? Why, in his final moments, was
Jesus determined to fulfill prophesy? He knew we would doubt. So he systematically
fulfilled centuries-old prophecies. Every important detail of the great
tragedy had been written down beforehand:
***the betrayal by a friend Psa.41:9
***the forsaking of the disciples Psa.41:11
***the false accusations Psa.35:11
***the silence before his judges Isa.53:7
***being proven guiltless Isa.53:9
***being crucified Psa.22:16
***the mockery of the spectators Psa.109:25
***the prayer for his enemies Isa.53:12
***being forsaken by God Psa.22:1
***the bones not broken Psa.34:20
***the burial in a rich man's tomb Isa.53:9
Yes, the Bible is proof of itself. It is humanly impossible for one man
to fulfill that many prophecies. Someone figured out that the mathematical
possibility of that is..... 1 to 840,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,
000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,
000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 That's a staggering 97 zeroes! Jesus never
wanted us to doubt who he was or the truth of his word. Jesus really is
the Christ, the Son of God, and the Bible really is true.
C.C.S. CORNER SCHOOL NEWS
K4 & More
Our K4 class is learning and growing so rapidly. Each student has matured
in character and understanding. It has been fun to watch their progression
and how they deal with each new challenge.
We have mastered nearly the whole alphabet. We have also been learning to
read words. And now this week, we are being introduced to reading sentences!
Children love to become part of the world of words.
One of the things I love about our school is that all of us (teachers and
students alike) interact with all the other ages. What a blessing it is
for the younger children to befriend the big kids, and be accepted and loved.
What a blessing it is for the older students to mentor and care for the
younger ones. C.C.S. is a great family to be part of.
I pray that you get to spend special time with special people this week
building precious memories. May hot chocolate be involved.
Love, Lynelle Dehlbom
