SHORT  BY
STUFF   DAVE SHANER

Periodically, we (myself included) need to be reminded of what we are about and why we exist. God created us to be in constant fellowship with Him. Because of sin, we have isolated ourselves from our Maker. But God is not content to let that be the end of the story. He sent his one and only Son to be a sacrifice of atonement to clear us of our sin while at the same time satisfying his own need for justice concerning the crime of sinful behavior. By dying on the cross, being buried, and being raised from the dead, Jesus conquered man's greatest enemy, death itself. He now offers salvation, the reunification of our relationship with God, to all those who express faith in Him. Our obedience is not to show how good we are but simply to follow the the goodness of Jesus.

To help us in our walk with with God, Jesus created His church. All those who have been baptized, born again (saved), are automatically added to the church which is simply the family of God. The church is not to be a building or an organization as much as it is a living organism. One metaphor that is often used in the scriptures to refer to the church is the body of Christ. As members of His body, each of us are expected to contribute to the overall health of the body. Some are teachers, some are special servants, some are leaders, all of us are brethren to each other. Jesus instituted the church to be His representatives on earth to spread, teach, and practice God's Word. His final commission given to all Christians is to make disciples as we go throughout the world.

Churches often find themselves very busy doing many good things. Indeed, Christians need to go about doing good to all the people we can, especially to the household of faith. But we must also not allow ourselves to forget our main mission. Basically, the Dalton Gardens church has summed this mission up in three ways. We are to reach the lost with the gospel, mature the saints to become more like Christ everyday, and knit the body together to become a close family. Wherever you go and whatever you do, you represent the church of Christ. Let's always remember why we exist as a people. We are the people of God. Let's make sure that we are always making the main thing we are about, the main thing that we are doing. God will bless you richly whenever you keep Him first.

Have a Great Week!!

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. - I Corinthians 13:4

Secret Sister News!

It's that wonderful time again: time at last to disclose your identity to your Secret Sister at the Secret Sister Revealing Dinner! If you had a secret sister this year, bring a potluck dish to the building on Friday, October 22, at 6:30 p.m. Also, bring your secret sister's last gift -- something that gives her a clue to who you might be, because she'll get a chance to guess! Remember, this is your last week to lavish your secret sister with prayers, notes, and gifts! New secret sisters will be chosen in January, after the hustle and bustle of the holiday season is over.

Car Clinic

Our Pro-active Benevolence Ministry (Reaching out to others without being asked) has set October 23rd for their first 'Light Maintenance Auto Clinic'. They plan to have capable people to do oil changes and inspections for anyone who would have a hard time getting those things done. It could include others, but would be especially for the elderly, widows and single moms. A sign up sheet can be found at the kiosk. If you have questions, see Tim Frahm.

Tweeners Mystery Dinner

Hurry and sign up on the kiosk for the best Tweeners activity of the year! The Frahms will host a mystery dinner at their home on Saturday, October 30 at 6:00 p.m. This year's party has a celebrity theme so look over the choices of what celebrity you'd like to be for the evening. Be prepared to come dressed as your famous celebrity and solve the evening's mystery as that person. Dinner will be potluck. Please check by your name on the list to see what you've been assigned. Cost will be only $1.00 per person and you can pay that evening at the door. Please sign up soon, there's only 6 spaces left!

Shepherd's Corner

Everything God does on earth has it's beginning with the obedience of his children. Everything of blessing and victory begins with obedience. Scripture shows us again and again that simple acts of obedience are followed by mighty acts of God. You can build an ark but only God can make it rain. You can offer your little lunch of loaves and fish but only God can multiply them to feed a multitude. You can fight the Amorites to the best of your ability and the limits of your strength but only God can make the sun stand still until that victory is complete. Do you see how God works? What small act of obedience will you display this week so that He can then display his power? Think about it.

Family Care Ministry

This ministry is off to a good start. We appreciate everyone in the church family filling out membership cards on Sundays, the Life Groups and their leaders for making weekly contacts with all those who are absent, and our shepherds as they will be making calls on those with special needs. It feels good to be part of a family that cares.

World Bible School needs you!

If you can help mail out correspondence, grade papers or similar tasks, please see Robert Mullaly or notify the church office. Thank you!

Ladies Thanksgiving Tea

Ladies of all ages, you are invited to a Thanksgiving Tea at the home of Marcie Nelson on Saturday, November 13, at 12:00 p.m. Come with a spirit of thankfulness and fellowship and your favorite finger foods to share. Meet at the church building at 11:00 a.m. for car pooling. Directions to Marcie's house can be found at the kiosk.

Thank Yous!

Our brothers and sisters, words can not express how much we appreciate your kindness, cards, food and especially your prayers. God is so good, blessing us with all of you.

Makai & Vicki Laititi and Family

Ladies of Dalton Gardens Church of Christ,

I want to thank all those responsible for last Saturday's delightful Fellowship Day. It was obvious that much team effort and planning had gone into making the day the success that it was. The programs were a work of art; the table settings were lovely and the food tasty.

The speaker was an inspiration. When she told of losing her son it brought tears to my eyes. She is a truly lovely lady. Thank all of you so much.

LTC FUNDRAISER

Thanks to all who came to our breakfast, and supported the LTC program with your donations. I hope you enjoyed the breakfast as much as we enjoyed serving you.

Let's go to the MOVIES!!...YUK!!!!

Well, it's not always 'yuk', but as most of you know, I'm not a big fan of the stuff that comes out of Hollywood these days. The language, sex, and violence which most movie producers seem to thrive on make me sick, and as a Christian, a parent, as well as a youth minister I resent it, am offended by it, and wish there were some way to protect us from it.

Every time I hear our kids say, 'Let's go to the movies,' I just cringe. And that's sad. But even if you are going to a 'G Rated' movie you will be exposed to screenfuls of previews of 'other rated' junk. Of course, the previews are 'edited to make them acceptable for all audiences'...yeah, right! They are teasers to say, 'Just imagine what you will see if you come to this movie!!!' They are meant to entice.... of course.

If you've decided that Mike is on a stump, you are SO RIGHT. And I have placed copies of an article from Parenting and the Media, 'I'll Have A PG - 13 Please.... Extra Violence, Hold The Sex,' in the boxes of all our teens and parents, with extra copies on the kiosk for anyone else who cares. I know, and you know that we, kids AND adults, are making lots of pretty poor choices of the stuff we are ingesting into our hearts and minds. No wonder we falter spiritually. Let's take a closer look, be better informed, and make some wiser choices.

THE SUPERVISOR'S PRAYER (and good for all of us!)

Lord, when I am wrong,
make me willing to change;
when I am right,
make me easy to live with.
So strengthen me
that the power of my example
will far exceed the authority of my rank.

C.C.S. CORNER SCHOOL NEWS

Teddy Roosevelt

None of the Roosevelt children went to public school. When they were little, their aunt taught them their lessons. As they got older, tutors were hired to educate the children.

Mittie Roosevelt was devoted to her children, and also instilled a strong spirit of adventure and daring in them - especially young Teddy.

This was particularly important since Teddy suffered from more than his share of illness.

His asthma made it impossible for him to take part in the lively games the rest of the family enjoyed. He spent much of his time alone. But Teddy was bright and inquisitive, so his mother encouraged him to spend his time reading and writing. His mother's devotion as his teacher gave Teddy a well-rounded education.
His love for nature was fed by books and firsthand meetings of real-life explorers. His thirst for adventure was fueled by his mother's provision and made him the rough-riding president history recorded.

What may your child learn through books, to inspire him or her to grow and learn and have a great future. Come visit our book fair this week. Books make great gifts for kids through adults.

Love, Mrs. Dehlbom
