Family News September 26, 2004 SHORT BY Our congregational meeting is this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. and we would like to encourage your attendance and participation. The shepherds have allotted most of the time to your questions. This is a time to communicate. The ministries are doing a great job and they have some exciting things to share. There is still always room for improvement. Your input is very valuable and necessary in the functioning of the church. After the meeting, the shepherds will serve ice cream and toppings to all. To encourage your participation, the LIFE groups will not be meeting tonight. Check with your LIFE group leader if your group meets at another time. One of the things that came out of our think tank last September was the need for a new sign. It has taken a long time, primarily due to the permit process along with the red tape that delayed the project. But it is now completed and looks great. This is a tool to communicate messages and promote upcoming events both for the church and the Coeur d'Alene Christian School. After the congregational meeting we would like to take everyone out around the sign and have a special prayer together. This sign simply displays who we are, the church that belongs to Christ. Other groups may make the same claim, but we have a certain set of values that sets us apart and identifies who we are. One of the things we were required to do by the city was to send out letters to all residents within a certain radius of the building asking for their input on our desire to place a sign within a residential area. One lady responded saying that we have been here for longer than most of the area residents and that we have become a fixture of something good about the city. Her recommendation was that the variance for a bigger sign be granted. Her response was very gratifying. Jesus said that we are to be the light of the world. He compared it to a city set on a hill that is not to be hidden. The new sign is simply a tool. We don't read about signs in the scripture. The real value is what is behind the sign, the lives of Christians who themselves are dedicated to representing the real light. Have a Great Week!! How priceless is your unfailing
love! Both high and low among men find refuge in the shadow of your wings.

Your generosity has been wonderful. Our pantry has never been so well stocked. We do appreciate your efforts. Thank you! Edna Miner & Betty Wilhoite Shepherd's Corner When was the last time you experienced something strange or unusual that you could not explain? Did you wonder if it was from God or the devil? God gives us many opportunities to fulfill our obligations to reach out to the lost. Can you remember the last time you had such an opportunity and did not take advantage to discuss the Gospel with someone? Maybe when we experience strange or unusual situations, it is God telling us to pay attention. Our marching orders are to go and teach the Gospel, baptizing in the name of the Holy Spirit so that all can be saved. We need to pay attention to all the signs, not just to the ones that make us feel comfortable. -For the Shepherds All Hands on Deck - We will need help from the men after Wednesday night Bible classes, to help, move pews and tables for the Ladies Fall Fellowship. Our Keenage Banquet has been rescheduled for November 6th! SHORTENED 23RD PSALM In his beautiful book, "I Shall Not Want," Robert Ketchum tells of a Sunday School teacher who asked her group of children if anyone could quote the entire 23rd Psalm. A golden-haired, four-and-a-half-year-old girl was among those who raised their hands. A bit skeptical, the teacher asked if she could really quote the entire psalm. The little girl came to the front of the room, faced the class, made a perky little bow, and said, "The Lord is my shepherd, that's all I want." She bowed again and went and sat down. I love that, don't you? It may well be the greatest interpretation of the 23rd Psalm ever heard. Oh the beauty of simple, childlike understanding. No wonder Jesus said, 'Unless they become like little children, they cannot enter the kingdom of heaven.' LTC FUNDRAISER We plan to try even harder than ever to raise most of the funds needed for our kids in Leadership Training For Christ. You are always helpful, and your help is definitely appreciated. Our first fundraiser is as follows: LTC BREAKFAST All donations go to the registration fees and travel expenses of our kids in LTC. C.C.S. CORNER SCHOOL NEWS God sure knows what he is doing. Many times it seems I begin to make plans for my life, only to have some unforeseen event or circumstance come up and change everything. Sometimes I resist and continue to try to do my own thing only to be turned back again and again. That is what happened recently as I was making plans for the school year. I had planned on doing after school care for a couple more years, then look at going back to teach. In the early spring I was asked if I was interested in returning to the classroom this fall and I declined. I had my own plans. Summer began and the question was posed again. Again I declined. My own plans, remember? Summer passed and the school year loomed nearer. More pressing the question came: Are you sure you aren't interested in teaching this year? No, my plans, my plans, MY plans! Teachers began arranging their rooms and two weeks before school began, a final meeting: the school needs you. Sigh. After much discussion with my husband, we decide God has OTHER plans for me. I wish I could say I began setting up my class immediately with a bounce in my step, but----MY plans had been upended. A week before school begins I am in my class preparing for the year: desks to be washed, bulletin boards to be prepared, lessons laid out, supplies to be arranged. There are tasks to be done and I plod along and do them all. Not as cheerfully, I regret to say, as should have been. It is the last weekend before school and I'm ready (or at least the classroom is) for students. The first day of school arrives and the flame flickers. The first day of school is always exciting, no matter which way the road turned from my own plans. Each day since then, has been more and more fun. I am fully back into my old shoes and loving (almost) every minute of it! I feel like I'm where I am supposed to be. CCS brought our family to Coeur d'Alene when it was just the two of us, nine years ago. This is my tenth year involved with the school either by teaching, volunteering or doing after school care. It is like home to me. By teaching this year, I have reaped so many benefits that I had not foreseen, but God had. I love being back in a third grade class. My students are great, my coworkers are incredible, my appreciation for what Dan and Teri Dupey do grows by leaps and bounds on a daily basis. I have more patience with my own kids and I feel like I'm doing the work God had planned for me. I truly appreciate the opportunity and honor of teaching at Coeur d'Alene Christian School. "In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps." --Proverbs 16:9 "Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the LORD'S purpose that prevails." --Proverbs 19:21 "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." -Jeremiah 29:11 Kathy Taylor - 3rd grade Anyone who has artificial Christmas trees they would like to donate to CCS, it would be greatly appreciated! Help is needed to renovate the school library. Please see Georgette Rude. Ladies, Ladies, Ladies! We would like to have a 'Fun' monthly ladies newsletter. But we need your input! We need several things before we can get started, such as, a name for the newsletter, articles, news, poems, encouragement's to each other, etc. Please give your inputs and suggestions to Betty Rude or Irene Clark. Car Clinic Our Pro-active Benevolence Ministry (Reaching out to others without being asked) has set October 23rd for their first 'Light Maintenance Auto Clinic'. They plan to have capable people to change the oil, check/add antifreeze, check hoses, change spark plugs and wires, etc. for anyone who would have a hard time getting those things done. It could include others, but would be especially for the elderly, widows and single moms. If you have questions, see Tim Frahm. Continue Praying For...... Lois Riggs, Rob Mullaly, Leona Howard, Irene Kisle, Shiri Howell, Brandi Sandford, Laura Wilkins.
