SHORT  BY
STUFF   DAVE SHANER

We have started some new Bible classes this week. The functions of the church are varied, but overall, we exist to help people come closer to God through Jesus Christ. Included among these purposes are outreach/evangelism, encouragement, worship, and prayer. Another vital function of the church is to help each of us understand God's will through a thorough understanding of the scriptures.

Mike Swaim and Arrty Rude have put together a very functional plan to help us get to where God wants us to be. For the children, the lessons cover the same core values over a period of a month. Each week these are taught with a different application. For the adults they have intermingled some textual classes with some topical classes of current interest. On Sundays, the book of Romans is being taught by Arrty Rude and Dan Dupey. This is a great book that focuses on God's great plan of redemption through faith and how brothers of different beliefs can get along and work together. Some of the great reformers of the Reformation era were changed from a works system to grace system simply by going back and studying this book once again. The Catholic church of the day had entrenched within the people a regimented merit system that determined if you got to go to heaven or not. Legalism has been around since the first days of the church, but it still finds its way back into our lives even today. This class is focused on grace and brotherhood. Mike Swaim and Dave Shaner are teaching a class on Contemporary Issues. The first 3 weeks of this class studies the subject of baptism and what is God's will toward the sincere believer who does not believe in the necessity of baptism. Are they still saved or is their sincerity enough recognizing that it's what's in the heart that counts? Or have we been wrong in our study of the scriptures on this subject?

On Wednesday evenings, Don Rude and LaMont Petersen are teaching a class on the 'Afterlife.' What will heaven be like? Is there really a hell? If so, what would it be like? What happens between your death and the 2nd coming? This will be a great study of a subject that hasn't been discussed that much. Also on Wednesdays, Mike Swaim will lead us in a class entitled, 'A Case for Christ." This class is about how reasonable it is to believe in Jesus. Our faith is not simply something based on feelings. Come check out all of the classes. These are for your benefit. The table has been set. Plan on being here every week.

Have a Great Week!!!

In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding.  - Ephesians 1:7-8

Stephen Ministry

It has been two years since we began the Stephen Ministry in our congregation. During this time we have had 18 individuals who have completed 50 hours of class instruction. We currently have 14 Care Givers who have given 652 hours of their time caring for 15 different care receivers. In addition they spend 3 hours every other week in continuing education and supervision groups. The comments from some of the Care Receivers tell me that this is a worthwhile ministry. It has been a time of much growth for the Leaders and Care Givers. We are thankful for the opportunities this ministry has given us to serve our Lord (Matt. 25:40). We hope to begin a new class in 2005.

Seniors' Great Train Escape

The Senior Saints ministry will be taking a train trip from Ione to Metaline Falls and back on October 16. The Fall colors are beautiful right now. The train departs Ione at 1:00 pm. Please sign up immediately with your deposit to reserve that date. See Carole Fredrikson after worship or call her at 623-6133. Age 64 and under $10 + $4 for gas, age 65 and over $7 + $4 for gas. A Chili-feed pot luck will be at the Fredrikson's home in Spirit Lake after the outing. We will meet at the Fredrikson's at 10:00 a.m. to drop off dishes and to car pool. Please bring your own sack lunch.

Congregational Meeting

There will be a congregational meeting next Sunday at 3:30 p.m. This is a time for learning about what is going on in the church as well as a time to give your input. We value your participation. We will not be having our LIFE groups meet that day in order to encourage your attendance.

Shepherd's Corner

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. - 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

13th Annual Ladies Fall Fellowship

The purpose of the Ladies Fall Fellowship is:

1. To involve our ladies in working together to serve the Lord and draw closer to one another.
2. To be an encouraging, uplifting day and growing time for our sisters as Christian women.
3. To be a non-threatening time to share Christ with our non-Christian family and friends.
4. To bring glory to God.

This is a day to put aside being a wife, mother, or daughter by leaving the responsibilities, cares and worries of our lives. Become the woman God wants you to be by spending the day praising Him, encouraging one another, and being filled with the truths of His word as you grow closer to Him and your sisters. Make your plans now to attend and share in this time of growing with your sisters.

Practical Purity -
Do You Live Like You're Saved?

Psalm 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Fundamental purity is in essence, God. God is the definition of purity. God is what all things are compared to in order to measure purity.

Applied purity occurs the moment we are saved. God imputes (adds; places; applies) the righteousness (purity) of Christ to us supernaturally. From that point on, He quite literally sees us as pure, worthy of salvation, worthy of coming into His presence.

Practical purity is the process of what the Bible calls "sanctification". It is the daily process of the Christian becoming more and more like Christ, who of course is Purity (God). It is the daily increase of righteousness in our lives, godliness and holiness... becoming more pure.

If we are truly saved, then increasing purity (righteousness) will be evident in our lives. Living pure lives is the purposeful effort to live in obedience to God; conviction and repentance as we fall short of purity; and trust in God to empower us to live righteously.

There are many ways to become more pure in our daily lives. The following are a few of the scriptures given to help us in our efforts to understand and grow in purity:

Proverbs 22:11 He who loves purity of heart and has grace on his lips, The king will be his friend.

1 Timothy 4:12 Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

1 John 3:1-3 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

Man started out pure when God created us. We ruined it with willful sin. The whole of Scripture is God's plan to return us to that state of purity and to bring glory to Him through it.

Contemplation: Is your life marked with an obvious increase in righteous and holy purity?

C.C.S. CORNER SCHOOL NEWS

Do you have an old friend or family member who no matter how long it is between visits you immediately feel comfortable together, and you can take up where you left off? That is how I feel about being back at the Christian school. It is like coming home. It is such a blessing to come to work each morning and start the day sharing a prayer with your coworkers. And what a wonderful bunch of coworkers they are. We then have the privilege to spend worship time with all of the students during chapel. You couldn't ask for a better way to start the day. We would love to have any of you join us for chapel at 8:45 a.m. in the large auditorium on any week day morning. God continues to bless the Christian school and to use it to bless.

Help is needed to renovate the school library. Please see Georgette Rude.

Ladies, Ladies, Ladies!

We would like to have a 'Fun' monthly ladies newsletter. But we need your input! We need several things before we can get started, such as, a name for the newsletter, articles, news, poems, encouragements to each other, etc. Please give your inputs and suggestions to Betty Rude or Irene Clark.

Car Clinic

Our Pro-active Benevolence Ministry (Reaching out to others without being asked) has set October 23rd for their first 'Light Maintenance Auto Clinic'. They plan to have capable people to change the oil, check/add antifreeze, check hoses, change spark plugs and wires, etc. for anyone who would have a hard time getting those things done. It could include others, but would be especially for the elderly, widows and single moms. If you have questions, see Tim Frahm.
