SHORT  BY
STUFF   DAVE SHANER

Next weekend is our annual Farragut Congregational Campout. Come out Friday anytime and spend the weekend through Monday. If you are not the camping type, feel free to come out during the days anytime to spend some time with your brothers and sisters in a beautiful part of God's world. There will be a Sunday morning church service held there as well. We will also have a Sunday evening service in lieu of our regular LIFE groups. See the accompanying article for more information.

Are you ready for summer to end? We have had a hotter than normal summer but it has been followed up by some refreshing rains. God is so good. Many of you have been traveling. I hope that you have enjoyed your visits. I am sure that we will still see some warm weather, but now is a time to settle down as school gets started. Now is also a good time to settle down in developing regular church habits. Be sure that you are involved in both a LIFE Group and a Bible class. These are designed to strengthen you in your faith. New classes are starting September 19.

Kathy and I are with the church in Columbia Falls, Montana, this weekend. Whenever there are 5 Sundays in a month, the shepherds have encouraged me to go to sister congregations close by for mutual encouragement. The Columbia Falls church has recently completed a We Care campaign with Larry West. They had only about 40 members but they had 40 baptisms during this campaign! We would like to gather some more information about We Care to see if this is something that would be a good activity for Dalton Gardens to be involved. Visiting there will give us an opportunity to evaluate its effectiveness. We Care is a campaign sponsored by the church in West Monroe, Louisiana. They assist the local church by sending a host of workers to set up Bible studies and let the community know of the upcoming campaign. They also train Christians in how to teach those without the Lord and how to care for them after they have been baptized This is done several weeks prior to the campaign. The church in Wenatchee, Washington is now the Northwest coordinator for We Care.

Enjoy your week as you live for the Lord.

Have a Great Week!!!

Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. -Proverbs 4:23

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.  -Proverbs 3:5

SUNDAY NIGHT LIVE!!

Tonight, at 5:30 p.m., we will be having a special worship assembly. All of our LIFE GROUPS are requested to be in attendance as well as anyone who is not currently a member of a particular LIFE GROUP. The groups have been a blessing to so many, but we would like to bring them all together on the fifth Sunday of a month for a common encouragement and worship experience. You will not want to miss this special time together as the Reeves family shares their experiences of Togo, West Africa. Not only will you get first-hand information about our mission work with the Kabiye people, but you'll hear their reports of a real African Safari. Bring all your questions and come prepared for an enjoyable evening.

Family Camp -- Sept. 3 - Sept. 6
at Farragut State Park

Plan on coming to Farragut State Park. Here is a sampling of some of the activities: hot dogs and hamburgers on Sunday, unlimited granitas, all you can eat french fries at George & Joanna's on Friday night, bike riding, singing at the campfire, a kite flying contest, a scavenger hunt and extreme fun and fellowship with your fellow Christians. Special speaker, Paul Swaim. Make your plans to be there. The cost is only $3 per person per night plus $4 per car per night. Bring your friends. For more information, contact George Wuest at 772-6247.

P.S. Teens under 18 must have an adult chaperone while at the campsite.

For first-timers, the campsite is located at Thimbleberry Campground at Farragut State Park. From Highway 95, go east on Highway 54 through the State Park Entrance. Proceed about 1/2 mile to the campsite which is located on the left. Hamburgers and Hot Dogs will be provided. Potluck will be at 5:00, assembly worship will be held later after the dinner around 6:30 pm. Come early and play games, pitch horseshoes, or just visit, etc. You will have a great time. Thanks, George!

Please note that there will be NO LIFE Groups meeting next Sunday night and there will be NO LIFE Group Leaders meeting next Sunday morning, September 5, due to Family Camp.

Shepherd's Corner

It's that time again for our Church Family Camp at Farragut State Park. This year marks the 25th ANNIVERSARY of our annual camp out. The Elders encourage all members, and their families, to take advantage of this great opportunity to get to know one another better in a non-threatening setting. Over the years, Thimbleberry Group Camp Area has been the site of forming some wonderful Christian friendships that will last through eternity. George & Joanna do such a wonderful job planning and hosting this event that the Elders highly encourage everyone to get involved and join us this Labor Day weekend.

LEADERSHIP TRAINING FOR CHRIST Information / Orientation Meeting
September 12th at 5:30 p.m.!

(TOO IMPORTANT NOT TO RERUN... and there is additional information)

Yes, it is almost time to restart our LTC program for 2004-05. Most of you know how highly I value this program. After many, many years of experience, I still see it as the best of the best. Depending entirely on kids' and parents' levels of involvement and commitment, it is a rich and very rewarding experience. We continue to see the benefits in the lives of our teens as they grow up. I.e. Justin & Jessica Brunner, Chris Rouse, Jennifer & James Dupey, Josh & Matt Reinstein, Zach Shaner, Bobbie Reeves, Nathan Frisk and Vanessa Borsheim just to mention a few. We have watched with pride as our kids have become leaders at camps and at youth rallies; Bible class teachers, and worship leaders as scripture readers, song leaders and speakers. Yes, I know it requires commitment, as does anything that is important...including Christianity itself. We have far too many 'Christians' who lack commitment. Don't be one of them, please!

There will be many changes in our program this year.... including leadership. We will miss the Borsheims being our LTC leaders, and appreciate their several years at the helm. In their place, I plan to lead, and spread the areas of leadership to as many parents and church members as are willing to be a part.

One of the great things about LTC is that it offers so many opportunities for parents and others to be involved in church work. As Christians we should always be looking for ways we can serve, and here is a list of some, but not all, the ways you can serve and be a part of our young peoples' leadership training.

We need people to:

  • pray for and encourage our kids and leaders, individually, and tell them you are praying

  • help make fundraisers happen

  • shop and secure air travel to Phoenix

  • write Bible Bowl questions

  • supply refreshments

  • help with funding; be sponsors

  • maintain communication with Phoenix, getting registrations and all entries in on time

  • help make costumes

  • make Phoenix motel reservations

  • keep an information bulletin board current

  • work/study one on one with students

  • help with record keeping

  • help with any of the following events: Christian Writing, Website, Service Challenge Scripture Memorization, Drama, , Puppetry, Bible Bowl Study, Readers' Theater, Chorus, Art, Speech and others.

I am praying that God will touch your heart with the desire to serve, and assist in the training of our 3rd - 12th grade kids.

TEENS....End of summer activities include:

  • our Farragut Family Camp is Sept. 3-6

  • some are going to Faith Quest Sept. 3-6

  • you are invited to go with me to Wenatchee where I will teach a Music Workshop Sept. 10-11

  • Valley Rally is Sept. 24 - 26

C.C.S SCHOOL NEWS

"Why should I choose Coeur d'Alene Christian School?'' - Dan DuPey

I remember a girl, in our New Mexico Christian high school program, who made a strong statement to me one day: "Thank-you Mr. D for all the Chapel programs and Bible classes that we have had. I think I need to be baptized after school today!" I baptized Maxine after school on that day. I had known her for many years. She had struggled in many areas. She had also excelled in many areas. She became a great leader for our school, community, and Church.

Coeur d'Alene Christian School exemplifies that value! The value of Christian education cannot be expressed with simple words. We see the lives of our parents, not just our children, often change. Their eyes are often opened to what God is and what is expected in His families. But, again, why Coeur d'Alene Christian School?

We often hear from students of all ages: "I need your help", or "Can I talk to you in private about something in the Bible?", or "I need a hug!" (These are often) or "I know you care".

  • CCS is a solid school with firm classroom policies as well as showing compassion for each child's needs. Each classroom has guidelines that follow academic excellence and respect for each other.

  • CCS is a FAMILY oriented school. Parents and students think of us as their "second" family.

  • CCS prepares each student to be ready with the sword of knowledge from the scriptures and self-confidence to stand for what is right in any situation.

  • Our students are building a foundation on Christ and family values, not on society's wants for them.

  • CCS has an excelled and enhanced curriculum that meets the needs of all our students.

  • CCS accepts students with a variety of needs from remedial to advanced studies.

  • CCS teachers love what they do!
"We have such a loving staff here that cares about each other" Marci Nelson
"It has always been "fun" teaching in a Christian environment"' Teri DuPey
"What other school can you go down the hallway and get hugs from teachers and go into the office and have the principal give you one?" Christine Gwin (parent)

  • CCS has a competitive cost: $215 monthly

  • CCS has dedicated teachers that love God's work and do so without high pay.

  • CCS has 100% support from all of our elders.

YOU, all of you, are welcome to join us in chapel as well as our classrooms. We also need some additional help for student scholarships. There is NO better gift than helping a child with Christian education! Come visit us! School begins September 7.

BIBLE BUILDERS MEMORY VERSES
