SHORT  BY
STUFF   DAVE SHANER

The Junior session at Camp Prince's Pine was one of the best ever. Several from the church here were very instrumental in helping to make it thus. A special thank you goes out to Anna Crump, Lynelle Dehlbom, Teri Dupey, and Austin Shaner along with 16 others from several other congregations who helped to staff the camp. The Lord is doing many amazing things at the camp and it is a great tool for introducing many young people to Him.

Don't forget that next Wednesday evening, August 25, we will be having a summer barbecue. The LIFE Groups will be supplying most of the food, but your attendance is what we need the most. Be sure to read the accompanying article in regards to what to bring. We had many guests last time and would encourage everyone to mix and mingle with them. Also, our annual Labor Day encampment at Farragut State Park is fast approaching. Be sure to make your plans to be there to spend time with your brothers and sisters before summer is over. A special thank you goes out to Robert and Ruth Inabnet for hosting 30 people at the Spokane Indians Baseball game.

Have you noticed the progress that is being made on the Prayer Garden? Rick Blanchard, Georgette Rude and many others have spent countless hours helping to complete this job. We hope to have this done soon. If you are able to help in any way, be sure to see Rick or Georgette. This project has taken some time, but the end result will be well worth the effort expended. There have been glitches along the way, but the last thing that Satan wants to see is a people and community constantly seeking the mind of God. I know of no other activity that is as important as prayer. Having a tool that will encourage prayer is a very worthwhile project that will enhance all that we do for the Lord. Nothing good comes without planning and work. Even though our salvation is free to us, not the result of works of merit, it took a lot of work on the part of the forces of heaven. Always keep Jesus at the forefront of everything that you do.

Have a Great Week!!!

But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. -Psalm 86:15

Wednesday Night Devotional & Barbecue

We will be having a barbecue and devotional on Wednesday evening, August 25 starting at 5:30 pm. The church will be providing the hamburgers and hot dogs. We would like to ask you to bring any kind of side dish, chips, or dessert of your choosing. If you are a member of a LIFE group, be sure to see your LIFE group leader for suggestions on what to bring. We will still be having our Soup Kitchen at the regular time. Thus, we need some to bring their items by 4:30 pm so that all of our guests can have something to eat.

SUNDAY NIGHT LIVE!!

On Sunday evening, August 29, at 5:30 p.m., we will be having a special worship assembly. All of our LIFE GROUPS are requested to be in attendance as well as anyone who is not currently a member of a particular LIFE GROUP. The groups have been a blessing to so many, but we would like to bring them all together on the fifth Sunday of a month for a common encouragement and worship experience.

You will not want to miss this special time together as the Reeves family shares their experiences of Togo, West Africa. Not only will you get first-hand information about our mission work with the Kabiye people, but you'll hear their reports of a real African Safari. Bring all your questions and come prepared for an enjoyable evening.

Family Camp -- Sept. 3 - Sept. 6

Plan on coming to Farragut State Park. Here is a sampling of some of the activities: hot dogs and hamburgers on Sunday, unlimited granitas, all you can eat french fries at George & Joanna's on Friday night, bike riding, singing at the campfire, a kite flying contest, a scavenger hunt and extreme fun and fellowship with your fellow Christians. Special speaker, Paul Swaim. Make your plans to be there. The cost is only $3 per person per night plus $4 per car per night. Bring your friends. For more information, contact George Wuest at 772-6247.

P.S. Teens under 18 must have an adult chaperone while at the campsite.

Shepherd's Corner

"Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour" (1 Pet 5:8). Satan is pleased when God's children point fingers of blame and are critical of one another. Satan wants Christians to discourage each other. Church, God has chosen us for a higher calling. Through the power of the Holy Spirit that indwells each Christian, part of the fruit of the Spirit is patience & kindness that we should show one another daily. Brothers & Sisters, we need to get off the devil's bus and onto the Barnabus train and encourage one another on toward love and good deeds (Heb 10:24).

-From the Elders

Dean and Shirley Lindell have moved back to Coeur d'Alene. They will need help after church today to move their things.

'Out of Africa'.......

The unwanted guests which I brought with me out of Africa...amoebas by name, have been making life a little less than comfortable, and I appreciate the many prayers and expressions of concern. The symptoms continue, but I am feeling better.

I continue to remind everyone that next Sunday night, Aug. 29th, my family will share our African experiences, and the growth of the Togo Team's work with the Kabiye people. We have so much to tell, and hope you will plan to be a part of this special time together. We believe we can make our mission to the Kabiye come alive for you.

Earlene & I, and of course David & Becky, truly appreciate those of you who have given money to help with the much needed repairs on their vehicle. God is working through you.

LEADERSHIP TRAINING FOR CHRIST
Information / Orientation Meeting September 12th!

Yes, it is almost time to restart our LTC program for 2004-05. Most of you know how highly I value this program. After many, many years of experience, I still see it as the best of the best. Depending entirely on kids' and parents' levels of involvement and commitment, it is a rich and very rewarding experience. We continue to see the benefits in the lives of our teens as they grow up, i.e. Justin & Jessica Brunner, Chris Rouse, Jennifer & James Dupey, Josh & Matt Reinstein, Zach Shaner, Bobbie Reeves, Nathan Frisk and Vanessa Borsheim to mention a few. We have watched with pride as our kids have become leaders at camps and at youth rallies; Bible class teachers, and worship leaders as scripture readers, song leaders and speakers.

There will be many changes in our program this year....including leadership. We will miss the Borsheims being our LTC leaders, and appreciate their several years at the helm. In their place, I plan to lead, and spread the areas of leadership to as many parents and church members as are willing to be a part. I will be listing those roles next week, and defining their expectations so you can choose just the right one for you. I am praying that God will touch your heart with the desire to serve, and assist in the training of our 3rd - 12th grade kids.

TEENS.... End of summer activities include:

  • Groups from Cashmere and Tri-Cities will be coming for a day at Silverwood on August 28th.

  • our Farragut Family Camp is Sept. 3-6.

  • some are going to Faith Quest Sept. 3-6

  • you are invited to go with me to Wenatchee where

  • I will teach a Music Workshop Sept. 10-11

  • Valley Rally is Sept. 24 - 26

BIBLE BUILDERS MEMORY VERSES

Children's Sunday A.M. Bible Classes

For the month of August - 4 years - 6th Grade:

'But we had to celebrate and be happy, because your brother was dead, but now he is alive; he was lost, but now he has been found'.  - Luke 15:32

Welcome back to Idaho

Betty Fullop called the church office this past week and wanted to say hello and let everyone know that she is now living back in Idaho and is worshiping at the church in Sandpoint. She has lived and cared for her mother the past 11 months in Virginia. Sadly, her mother passed away on the 4th of July at the age of 96. Betty just wanted us to know that her mother had become a Christian and had spent her last 3 years growing closer to God.

Christian Character Strengths
via the church Bulletin Digest

Courage is standing for what you believe in, regardless of the odds against you, and the pressure that tears at your resistance.

Strength is keeping a smile on your face for the sake of supporting others, when inside you feel like dying.

Determination is stopping at nothing, and doing what's in your heart when you know it is right.

Compassion is doing more than is expected, to make another's life a little more bearable, without uttering a single complaint.

Loyalty is helping a friend in need to the best of your ability, no matter how much time or effort it takes.

Selflessness is giving more than you have, and expecting nothing in return.

Confidence is holding your head high and being the best you know you can be when life seems to fall apart at your feet....facing each difficulty with the confidence that time will bring you better tomorrows.

These character traits will grow to be a part of our lives as we follow the examples of Jesus and continue to live in obedience and faithfulness to God. The apostle Paul said, 'Be followers of me, as I also am of Christ'.
