Family News July 11, 2004 SHORT BY A few weeks ago, we we able to view a video that dealt with the concept of change. We saw some things that are eternal and some things that are more as a result of our culture than of our convictions. Most of these things deal with methodology. The basic message was that God has entrusted us with an unchanging message that must be delivered in changeable ways. The apostle Paul said the same thing when he said that he became all things to all men so that he might influence the most people. When he had to live like a Jew he did; when he had to live as a Gentile he did that as well. He was culture sensitive and knew that the delivery was adaptable. Also last week in this article, we looked at some of the things that this church is doing right. We, in my opinion, have much to be very positive about. That does not mean that we must not take a hard look at where we can improve. There are many areas that require all of our attention. The most noticeable thing to me is the lack of evangelism. As of this writing, there have been 10 precious souls that have been baptized into Christ in 2004. I am thankful for those. Brothers and sisters, that number should be much higher. If each of us only led one person to the Lord who previously was not a Christian, we would have 250 by the end of the year. We are half way through the year. It is so easy to get distracted to good things that we sometimes forget why Jesus came - to seek and save the lost. Not everyone is as outgoing as someone else, but we can still work as a team to bring more to the Lord. There are some people that only you can influence. It may start with simply befriending a neighbor, sharing a cup of coffee, or inviting them to a church service with you. However the conversation starts, eventually, we must lead that conversation to a more spiritual tone. This is something that needs to change within us. We have gotten over some humps, now let's get up and share the greatest message that the world will ever hear. Ask God to lead you to some soul today. I have only dealt with one aspect of needed change, but let's start here and we will continue to explore this topic. Have a great week as you live for Him! And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and much will inherit eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first. - Matthew 19:29-30

We will begin after church services and stay until everything is finished, so bring your lunch! This workday is required for all VBS teachers to prepare their rooms and we need everyone involved with VBS and extra volunteers to help with decorating the small auditorium. Let's all help to make this a great VBS! Shepherd's Corner Special Offering next Sunday July 18 for electric sign Next Lord's Day July 18 a special contribution will be taken for our new 5' by 10' church sign. From our 'think tank' last September a number of brethren wanted a sign reader board for large letter advertising to the community. One of the most important advertising items is the sign in front of the church building. It should be perpendicular so that it can be read from both sides. It should be well-maintained and attractive. It should be large enough to be easily read. WHAT ARE THE BLESSINGS OF THE READER BOARD SIGN? 1) A 5' by 10' sign advertising the CHURCH OF CHRIST in ten inch letters in powder coating. 2) Under Church of Christ will be powder coated (lasts longer than paint) CDA CHRISTIAN SCHOOL. 3) Reader board will be 1/4 inch 6' letters and very durable (cannot fall out) letters which can be easily read at 200' from sign. The Christian School special events can be advertised as well as special spiritual events like outside speakers, VBS and other important functions along with spiritual messages. The sign will be internally lit which will have white acrylic faces on both sides. Half of the $6,000 has been paid from an anonymous gift. Please have your check in the lower left hand corner written for sign. Thank you. By making out the check to the church you receive a tax deduction. -For the Shepherds VBS Cookies Needed We need cookies or mini muffins for VBS. Every day for VBS we will need 300 for a total of 1,200 cookies! Your help with baking or buying them would be appreciated. (No nuts, peanut butter or M&M's, please). Please bring them down to the kitchen by tomorrow morning, July 12th. Thank you! There is a suitcase in the foyer where these donated items can be returned. Please have these items returned by Wednesday, July 14. Thanks for your support! Mike's Memos..... Teens, we've had lots of opportunities for some great fun and spiritual experiences already this summer. The Music and All-Teen Camps were wonderful times for all.....fun and spiritual, which certainly often go together! Vacation Bible School begins tomorrow, and it is always great to have several of you help with teaching and all the other functions of a good VBS. You are appreciated. TNT schedule is as follows: July 16th - Reeves' house We've really enjoyed having Levi Sisemore here for the beginning of the summer, and I know all of us wish he could have stayed longer. Today he is beginning his annual Singing School week at Abilene, and he goes back to Sunset School of Preaching in Lubbock on August 1st. Togo Trip Only a week (July 19th) until we (Mike & Earlene, Bobbie, Ashlin and Joleen) will leave to check up on David & Becky and our mission work in Togo, Africa. Some of you have been helping us with money for additional required shots, and additional visa requirements. This is VERY much appreciated. I still have to pinch myself to believe we are actually going, but with your help and the Lord's wonderful blessings we will go with very grateful hearts. There is still room in the big suitcases for 'stuff' we can take to them which they cannot get in Togo. See the list in the foyer. All Together Wednesday It has been wonderful to see our Wednesday night attendance on the increase. Last Wednesday night we had 95 present for a special time to sing and pray and share about our work in the mission of Christ. Ivan spoke about the work in Cape Town, South Africa, and offered a challenge for me or you to save $100 per month for two years and be able to go to Cape Town. Now that would be a spiritual vacation!!! Levi told of the joys and struggles of being an MK (missionary kid) in Barnaul, Siberia. Anna Crump shared, from a woman's perspective, about her part in the missionary work she and Ralph did in central Africa, and I shared a little about the joy and the pain of being a parent of missionary children. If you weren't there, you missed a great time. Even though we do show an increase in numbers, 95 is still less than half of the Lord's family here at Dalton. Please don't rob God, yourself, or the church family of these special times. Let's be..... ALL TOGETHER WEDNESDAY.
