Family News May 2, 2004 SHORT BY Today starts National Prayer Week. Congress has set aside this time as an opportunity for the nation to spend some moments in prayer on behalf of our nation. This Thursday is the National Day of Prayer. These dates were set aside by special proclamation by President Reagan in 1988. Be sure to take some extra time to pray on that day. Remember not only our national leaders but our local governments as well. The United States has a multitude of problems, whether it is in the political, social, or international arena. But we are still a country that has been mightily blessed by God. One reason is because of the prayers of Christians always lifting our country up to our Father. Be sure to pray for our troops and our relationships with others. In conjunction with National Prayer Week, we are also using this time to kick off our new sets of Prayer Trios. The Prayer Ministry team has divided up the families of the congregation into groups of three and have asked you to remember in prayer the ones assigned to you on a regular basis. What a blessing this can be if you know that daily someone is lifting your name up to God. It is also a blessing for you to be able to pray for somebody else. Be sure to make contact with the families on your list so you can know what to pray for them. The names can be found in your mail box at the church building. If you have any questions regarding this, please contact Nancy Callis. Don't forget about the Total Money Makeover Seminar on May 25 with Dave Ramsey. It will be held at the Spokane Opera House from 5:30-10 pm. This is a seminar to encourage and give you some tools to get out of debt and better use your resources to glorify God. The cost is $19 until May 16. It will be $25 after that. Many know intellectually what to do to get out of debt, but this is a program that packages it in a way to motivate you to do what you have always wanted to do. Many spiritual problems that people have is because they have allowed themselves to be controlled by the burden of debt. It has a way of draining you spiritually. Money has the potential of becoming a rival god. Jesus said you can not serve both God and money. He did not say that you can not do it well. He said that you can not do it at all. Several will be at the Pepperdine lectures this week. Several of our elders will also be at the Camp Koinonia Men's Leadership Retreat this Friday and Saturday. Ralph Crump and LaMont Petersen will be two of the speakers at this. Be sure to keep them in your prayers. The elders and deacons selection process is moving along nicely. The committee has gone through the names and is finishing up interviewing prospective new potential leaders. These will be presented to you soon and you will be given the opportunity to voice your thoughts concerning them. Lord willing, the target date for the installation of new elders and deacons will be May 16. Be sure to keep this before our heavenly Father. Have a Great Week! If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. - II Chronicles 7:14
NEW PRAYER TRIOS Look for your new Prayer Trio assignment sheet today in your mailbox. Christians need each others' prayers. Even when there is no immediate crisis, those prayers refresh and sustain us. It has been a while since we divided the congregation into groups of 3 family units. Each family's role is to pray for the other families in their "TRIO" everyday. This way each group has 2 other families praying for them on a daily basis. Rejoice ever more. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Once again Levi Sisemore, now a student at Sunset School of Preaching in Lubbock, TX, has agreed to serve as youth intern here at Dalton Gardens this summer. Most of us already know him well and love him so much. Because of his schedule at Sunset, and his involvement with the singing school at Abilene, he will only be here until July 9th, but we will work him hard while he is here. Levi will be helping out with youth classes and activities, and Music Camp, while gaining valuable experience and training in the field of ministry. Not only is he preparing for preaching, but he plans to attend Harding Christian University to get a degree in education and in youth ministry. We are very fortunate to have such a talented young man to serve with us. His song leading skills will be valuable to us as well, and I know we will want to hear him preach while he is here. Levi should be arriving about May 29th. TRI-CITIES YOUTH RALLY We are looking forward to our next trip to Richland for this year's youth rally
there. The theme for the weekend is 'Identity Theft ...What Steals Your Focus
In Worship?' We all struggle with that, so I know the rally will be good for
us. As Christians we are challenged to be like Jesus, who was, indisputably, the greatest leader the world has ever known. But we know his methods of leadership were very different from the usual. As a leader he ........ was obedient Jn.6:38; was a servant Mk.10:42-45; touched and was touchable Mt.8:3 & Mk.5:28; personified truth Jn.14:6; lived an uncluttered life Mt.8:20; was totally honest, transparent and real. Learning to lead Jesus' way is not easy. Satan tries to limit our abilities, our opportunities, and our power. But if we let him, God will bless and multiply our abilities, and our opportunities. And he will fill us with the inexhaustible power of his Holy Spirit. If we would lead like Jesus, we must give God the controls rather than Satan. The personal question is, do I want to be a leader for Jesus? Am I willing to pattern my life after his leadership model? If we choose to be his, we must accept the challenge. That challenge would include being more focused in worship, and more willing to step out and lead in the Lord's work. C.C.S CORNER SCHOOL NEWS There is excitement in the air.
