Family News November 9, 2003 Short BY STUFF DAVE SHANERAs the colder weather has set in to our area our visitors to the Prayer Garden have been a little less frequent. There have still been some guests who have come and have asked us to pray for them. We have also had guests from the community come to use our Prayer Room. This has not been widely advertised but has still made its way known. The Prayer Ministry has plans to put out a Prayer Box, so that community members can leave their prayer requests for us to have someone pray for them. As we have mentioned before, one doesn't need a special garden or room to pray. We also don't need special legislation authorizing prayer or even a moment of silence for our students in our schools. Prayer supersedes all laws, locations, and circumstances. I am reminded of Nehemiah's response when asked by King Artaxerxes of Persia what was troubling him concerning the plight of the people and walls of Jerusalem. Nehemiah 2:4 says, 'With a quick prayer to the God of heaven, I replied ....' (LIV) There are times when it is appropriate to spend the entire evening in prayer. Jesus certainly did. There are times to pray as a group. There are times to go to your closet to pray. However you choose to pray, persistence needs to characterize our prayer lives. There are also times when the quick prayers to the God of heaven are heard just as much. Whenever and wherever, make prayer a priority in your life. A change in our LIFE Group schedules involves having all the groups come together for a common assembly whenever there is a 5th Sunday in a month. This will help to accomplish several things. First, we will get to be together to share what has been happening in our groups. It will be a time to remind us that it is not about us, but about God. This time will also give us a chance to worship together. During this time, we can learn some new songs. We will also be able to utilize some of our young people to be able to practice some of the things they have learned from their Sunday evening LTC classes. It will also give our leaders a small break from teaching. Our first gathering will be November 30 at 5:30 p.m. Let's all come together to 'encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today...'- Hebrews 3:13 Have a Great Week!! Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. - Proverbs 3:5

Senior Saints Holiday luncheon party is scheduled for Thursday, December 11, at 12 noon at Ivan and Sally's home. Food sign-up sheet will be posted in late November. Shepherds Corner Is God your friend or is he your taskmaster? This question is important especially because of our heritage. When Adam and Eve were in the garden, they had a special relationship with God that included talking directly with God. They communed with one another and lived in harmony with one another. After they were turned out of the garden, the relationship changed until God seemed to be more of a God of wrath than a God of love and compassion. With the death and resurrection of Jesus, our relationship with God returned to one of love and compassion and returned our ability to talk to God whenever we want. Make sure that you do not lose this wonderful gift and forget to pray to God at every opportunity. Prayer should be a focal point of our lives whether we pray just once a day or if we pray without ceasing throughout the day. I would encourage you to pray numerous times a day and let everything you do be a reflection on your devotion to God. Let your words be sweet and your actions reflect that you are indeed a Christian and servant of the true living God. Have a prayerful week. Upcoming Youth Events November 15th Keenage Banquet November 21st - 23rd 'Come Before Winter- Retreat' Northwest Bible Bowl Challenge - Dec. 13th Schweitzer Ski Trip - December 22nd --------------------------------- Half Healed All the miracles of Jesus are intriguing and there is so much to learn from each one, but I find the one in Mark 8:22 - 26 very fascinating. 'They came to Bethsaida, and some people brought a blind man and begged Jesus to touch him. He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. When he had spit on the man's eyes and put his hands on him, Jesus asked, 'Do you see anything?' He looked up and said, 'I see people; they look like trees walking around.' Once more Jesus put his hands on the man's eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly. Jesus sent him home, saying, 'Don't go into the village.'' There are several things in this event that beg for explanation, and there's really no way for us to figure them out. I want to just think about one part. This is the only time in scripture we see an incomplete healing that seemed to necessitate a second attempt by Christ. The first time Jesus spat on the man's eyes and touched them, the Bible says he saw people who looked like trees walking around. But when the Master touched the eyes a second time the healing was completed, and the man saw clearly. Do you believe that Jesus did something wrong, or failed his first effort at healing this man? I don't. I believe Jesus knew exactly what he was doing. He obviously had a point to make to the blind man or perhaps to his observers. I don't know which, and I don't even know what the point was, but think about this.... No matter how many Bible studies we attend, or how hard we try to be good servants, we will not know the deep healing of Christ, and the real purpose for our lives until the way we view others has dramatically changed. We must see others clearly. The blind man wasn't healed until he saw men the way Christ saw them. We need to imitate Paul who said, 'From now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer.' 2 Corinthians 5:16 Do we still see men as trees walking around? Jesus clearly sees them as lost souls, and he died for them. What will we do if we see them clearly? Are we willing to allow Christ to adjust our sight, or will we remain just half healed? (Seed thoughts from The Beloved Disciple) CCS CORNER SCHOOL NEWS Have you ever heard of teachable moments? Teachable moments are those times when ordinary situations can be turned in to 'one of life's little lessons.' As a teacher and as a parent, I watch and wait for these times. God must, too, because this week he used two teachable moments in my life. The first came Sunday as I watched Josh and Adam play in the snow. What joy they got from the first little bit of snow! They ran and kicked and threw and laughed. I was reminded that God wants us to be like little children. He wants us to enjoy the little things in life just like kids do. The second teachable moment was on Monday. I woke up with no voice. I spent the day, in a classroom with eighteen 3rd and 4th graders, whispering. They were very patient with me. This day reminded me to think before I speak, speak gently, and 'Be still and know that He is God.' But most of all, this week taught me that some teachable moments in my life are better spent learning. Have a great week! -Jennifer Rude 'Evening of Giving' at Silver Lake Mall This event will take place on Sunday, November 16th 2003, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Evening of Giving is a private evening of shopping for customers who have purchased a ticket from a participating non-profit organization.
