STUFF   DAVE SHANER

We appreciate all who came out to the Church Planting Seminar last Saturday. The sessions were video taped and anyone who desires copies may contact either Steve Taylor or the church office. They will also be made available for checkout from the video library located in the church office.

Sometimes we think that traffic in the Coeur d'Alene area is bad and it certainly has increased steadily over the years. I was riding in a car on the Kennedy Expressway with my brother in Chicago a little over a year ago. I commented on how horrible the traffic was and asked if it was always this bad. To him it was normal and no big deal. He made the following statement that has hung on with me and it relates to our church planting seminar as well as to church work in general. He said there is a 3-step process in negotiating the traffic in the Chicago area:

1. Get in line.
2. Jockey for position.
3. Grind it out.

At times we have to get in line. In other words, we must determine what we want to do and where we want to go and just get started. Out of the starting gate we have our initial planning and prayer for God's will. Then we must jockey for position. This involves more strategy and developing inertia. Then we simply need to grind it out. Driving in Chicago was not looked at as a drudgery, but just a part of what you need to do to get where you want. Likewise, not everything in our work in the kingdom will wow you over, but simply a steady work ethic will cause you to get over the bumps along the way. It doesn't happen overnight, but you end up where you wanted to go. Perseverance is a key in the kingdom of God. This does not men that the work is a drudgery. It is not. It is a joy. It is not always easy, but the rewards for grinding it out are well worth the effort.

Have a Great Week!!

Then Jesus came to them and said, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.'

Matthew 28:18-20

THE GIFT OF LIFE

Perhaps one of the greatest gifts of all is the gift of life itself. Most of the time most of us take it for granted. We wake up every morning manifestly here. We walk, talk, sleep, eat, love, hate, and do everything else without considering the fact that, but for an almost random collision of cells nine months before our first breath, such awareness might never have been ours at all. And to .live that life in the knowledge of the creator of the universe is to recognize and slightly appreciate the awesomeness of the gift.

One interesting analogy is that living life is like being given free tickets to a marvelous play. Every day the curtain rises on a new scene, exhilarating and exciting. The whole thing, the whole vast tapestry of the reality of God's creation - the starry universe, the whirling masses of electrons that make up the Milky Way, or the leaves on a tree, the trillions of cells that comprise a human brain - the whole stupendous show is unbelievably complicated, purposeful, and beautifully balanced. To watch this play, and better still, to be a part of it is truly an incredible gift.

For young people, and even for many who are older, the haunting question begging for an answer is, 'What part has God chosen for me to play?' We want Him to spell it out...to carefully design it and hand it to us on a silver platter obviously labeled....unquestionably mine. But life is a mystery. And the scenes are written and played out hour by hour and day by day on life's stage. The playing rules have been written and the stage has been set, but we write the lines either following or ignoring the director and guide. The choices we make determine for all eternity which side we are on when the curtain falls.

Yes, life is a precious gift whose final value is measured by the way we live it. Time is of essence. Make every minute count. Live it for the Lord.

CCS CORNER SCHOOL NEWS

Can you believe that the first quarter is now over? We have completed many assignments, projects, school activities, and church functions. We have also planned more of these for the future. I am so glad that God is working in our school! When we are doing God's will, Satan tries to frustrate and discourage us, but we serve a God who loves and cares for us during those times. We pray daily for those who let us know of struggles in their lives. Please pray daily for our school. The Bible reminds us many times of the power of fervent prayer by God's people. Please continue to pray that our school will grow in the knowledge and action of our Lord.

Donations Still Needed!

Jim and Diane Rude at the Astoria Church of Christ are asking us to donate coats and blankets to provide warmth to those in need. There is a box in the lobby for your donations. For more information please see Betty Rude.

North Idaho End-Of-Life Community Survey

Hospice of North Idaho recently mailed out an end-of-life survey to a scientifically selected sample of people. The survey is designed to help us learn how to improve end-of-life experiences for our loved ones.

Since the survey sample is small, it is very important to have as many surveys completed as possible. Without significant input, we might not get a true picture about the community's needs. Any adult may complete this survey.

Thank you very much for your time and willingness to consider participating in this valuable community project. If you have any questions, or need a new survey, please call the Hospice office at 772-7994.
