Family News September 28, 2003 Short BY STUFF DAVE SHANERNext weekend is our annual Ladies Fall Fellowship. Sister Katherine Cooper from Pitman, New Jersey, will be the featured speaker. Be sure to make your plans to be here by registering today! Men, you can help out by encouraging your wives to attend and by volunteering to do their tasks and taking care of any children. These Ladies Day gatherings are well-planned and are certainly worth rearranging your schedules to be sure that you are able to be here. Katherine's husband, Dan, will be conducting a 'Friendship Evangelism Seminar' at the Valley church in Spokane this weekend as well. They indicated to me that they enjoyed coming here so much that they wanted to be able to come out together and spend a few extra days here! The Prayer Garden is continuing to progress. Look for an article this Friday on the Faith Page of the Coeur d'Alene Press. Many in the community have taken notice of our Garden of Prayer and are very excited about what we are doing. We want to encourage you to pray. The church here has prayer trios. Have you been praying for the ones in your trio? We have a prayer breakfast on Tuesday mornings at JB's restaurant. There are normally 15 to 20 who gather together there to pray for the Dalton church, , for our missionaries, the nation, the local community, and for personal requests. It is a powerful, energizing time. Come join us at 6:30 on Tuesday mornings. There is also a dedicated prayer room in the church building. It is a place that is quiet that offers you a way of getting away from the noise of the day. Of course, you can have all the programs you desire; real prayer springs from your heart. An old song says, 'the highest high you'll ever reach is when you kneel to pray. The brightest light, you'll ever see is when you close your eyes ...' How true this is. Albert Lemmons wrote several books on the subject of prayer. One thing he said stands out in my mind. He said, 'Where there is much prayer, there is much faith. Where there is little prayer, there is little faith. Where there is no prayer, there is no faith.' I think what he says has a lot of merit. At times, Jesus would spend the night in prayer. Other times, he would simply utter a word of thanks. Paul refers to Epaphras as wrestling in prayer for you. Prayer can be hard work, but oh ... the results when you pray!Have a Great Week! Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. James 5:16

We have been trying to clarify some of these responsibilities over the last year. One area of confusion has been how to handle requests for funds by different ministries. If the ministry submitted a budget and it was approved then the only approval is from the finance ministry to see if funds are available. The elders really want the deacons and ministries to be able to spend funds and make decisions on their own without continued control from the elders. This does not mean that we should not be good stewards of God's money and should always be aware of alternate methods of doing our ministry work. We hope this will help clarify this issue, but if you have questions, you are always welcome to talk to one or more of the elders. We feel the primary responsibility of the elders is for spiritual growth of the congregation. We welcome your input. -The Elders *****Attention All Men***** Our Ladies Fall Fellowship is Saturday, October 4 from 9:00 am till 3:00 pm. It is an important time for our ladies to share with each other as they encourage, strengthen and help each other to grow as Christian sisters. You can do your part as the spiritual leader in your home to make a special time for the women in your life by: 1. Encouraging your wives and daughters to attend. 2. Making it possible with your help at home. 3. Contacting George Wuest or the Men's Ministry to help with setting-up, taking-down and cleaning-up.
