STUFF   DAVE SHANER

The 'Think Tank' last Saturday was received very well. Our attendance far exceeded many expectations as the auditorium was filled. A special thank you goes to several of the teenagers who helped out by providing childcare during this event. There were many good suggestions made that were implemented immediately. One change is in the name of our Bible Study Groups. We are now referring to these as 'Life Groups.' We still want to make the study of God's Word a central focus, but the groups are accomplishing much more than just Bible study. They are also a time for outreach, prayer for the group members' needs, for fellowship, for service, and a time for accountability to one another. We desire that our small group ministry enables us to provide better care and the kind of life that Jesus said, when he said 'I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.' - John 10:10. As indicated last week, we seek to use our small group ministry as our primary means of accomplishing the work that Jesus has asked us to do. We ask that every member of the Dalton church body be an active member of a Life Group. Many other things were discussed including planting another congregation in the Rathdrum/Post Falls area, church marketing, a new sign, education, missions, the prayer ministry, and how to care for one another. If anyone desires a copy of the minutes that were taken, please see someone in the church office.

Occasionally, the church leaders will get unsigned letters either addressed to the office or at home. This has happened lately and it has extended to other members of the church. It is difficult to respond to anything that is unsigned. Generally, any letter that comes in unsigned, is from someone who does not like the way somebody does something in the church. It is difficult to give these letters very much weight when you have no way to respond to the one making the assertions that they are making. The scriptures have detailed how to deal with a brother or sister with whom you are disagreeing. Writing unsigned letters is a very unspiritual way of dealing with a problem. It promotes discouragement with the one who has received the letter and also tends to be divisive in the church. If you have a problem with someone, please talk to the person personally. If they refused to listen then take it up with the shepherds and deal with any problem that comes along upfront. Many things can be worked out rather easily. We need to always remember the body of Christ is a team that needs to work together.

Have a Great Week!

Above all, my brothers, do not swear - not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. Let your 'Yes' be yes, and your 'No,' no, or you will be condemned.

James 5:12

You can do your part as the spiritual leader in your home to make a special time for the women in your life by:

1. Encouraging your wives and daughters to attend.

2. Making it possible with your help at home.

3. Contacting George Wuest or the Men's Ministry to help with setting-up, taking-down and cleaning-up.

A Special Prayer Garden Thank You!

Sowing & Reaping

A good story from Church Growth magazine

His name was Flemming... a poor Scottish farmer. One day while trying to make a living for his family, he heard a cry for help coming from a nearby bog. He dropped his tools and ran to the bog. There, mired to his waist in black muck, was a terrified boy, screaming and struggling to free himself. The Scottish bog has received many an unsuspecting person. Farmer Flemming saved the lad from what could have been a slow and terrifying death.

The next day a fancy carriage pulled up to the Scotsman's sparse surroundings. An elegantly dressed nobleman stepped out and introduced himself as the father of the boy farmer Flemming saved. 'I want to repay you,' said the nobleman. 'You saved my son's life.'

'No. I can't accept payment for what I did,' the Scottish farmer replied, waving off the offer. At the moment the farmer's own son came to the door of the hovel.

'Is that your son?' the nobleman asked.

'Yes,' the farmer replied proudly.

'I'll make you a deal. Let me take him and give him a good education. If the lad is anything like his father, he'll grow to a man you can be proud of.

And that he did.

In time farmer Flemming's son graduated from St. Mary's Hospital Medical School in London and went on to become known throughout the world as the noted Sir Alexander Flemming, the discoverer of penicillin. Years afterward the nobleman's son was stricken with pneumonia. What saved him? Penicillin!

The name of the nobleman? Lord Randolph Churchill. His son's name? Sir Winston Churchill. In this true story good was sown and good was reaped. Blessings were received and the world was made better.

The Apostle Paul put it in other words: 'Be not deceived; God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. He that sows to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that sows to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap everlasting life.' Galatians 6:7-8

Are you sowing good deeds??

CCS CORNER SCHOOL NEWS

I am a sigher. I sigh when I'm frustrated or tired or nervous or worried. I sigh when I need just a moment to remember who I am and whose I am. During the first week of teaching the 3rd and 4th grade class at CCS, I learned that I am in good company. I discovered that Jesus was a sigher, too (Mark 7:34, 8:12). As I read these passages to my students, I had to smile. Just imagining Jesus sighing like I have so many times is a great comfort. It reminded me that he went through everything we do and did the right thing. It also reminded me that he is my brother, because all sighers know that sighing is genetic (my mom, my sister, and Josh are all sighers). But even more encouraging to me was this passage found in Isaiah 35:10

They will enter Zion with singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.

All those things that cause me to sigh will flee away. I can breathe easy...... with Him.

We'd like to thank those who have donated to our church pantry - it has really helped those in need and our Wednesday night Soup Kitchen. Currently we need: Mac & Cheese, spaghetti sauce, Rice-a-Roni, canned peaches, pears, sm. applesauce, peas, green beans, potatoes, Jiffy Mix and Jell-O. These items would be greatly appreciated!

Church Web Site

Don't forget about our church web site! Steve Taylor does a great job of keeping this maintained for us. There is a lot of great information on it, including: church calendar of upcoming events, current and archives of bulletins, prayer lists, outlines and audio from Sunday sermons, local weather link, and a church e-mail directory. Consider setting us up as your home page! Check us out at www.dgchurch.org.

Steve also e-mails anyone who would like to receive prayer requests. Let him know if you would like to be on the e-mail list.
