Family News August 3, 2003 Short By STUFF Dave ShanerJunior Camp (grades 6-8) at Camp Prince's Pine starts today. I will be gone this week directing this session. Several others from this congregation are also up there helping out as cooks, counselors, teachers, crafts coordinator, and nurse. Next week starts Preteen Camp (grades 3-5). There is still room if you would like your child to attend. Registration forms are available in the church foyer, but they need to be sent in right away. These camping sessions offer an excellent way of instilling spiritual values in a very beautiful part of the world. When I think back when I was a teenager, my times at camp were very formative times. I gained many lifelong friends and also where I first learned about even the existence of Christian colleges. From there, I decided to go to college to get the education to become a preacher. Many others have met special friends who in many cases became their mate. I know of one couple who reserved the camp during the off-season to spend their honeymoon there! Much of the work of a director is prior to arriving at camp. He has to assemble the staff, arrange the curriculum, place the food orders, etc. The actual time at camp is making sure everything comes together properly. The staff has always done a great job for me and made my job easy. Most of you have received a letter from Jeff Crow, the president of Northeastern Washington Christian Camps, which is the board that owns and governs Camp Prince's Pine. We would like to build a new bathhouse. The camp has grown so much that the current one has become inadequate for all of our needs. It has been there for over 50 years and originally was designed for a much smaller number. If you would be able to help us with our fund to help make this a reality and have any more questions, please see John Simpson, Mike Reeves, or myself for additional information. If you haven't been out to tour the Garden of Prayer lately, take the time to do so. The Mount Sinai station has been completed. Other stations to be completed soon include the Garden of Eden, a nativity scene, the Garden of Gethsemane, Calvary. A waterfall, a gazebo, a rose garden, a fire pit for devotionals, and an area for small gatherings such as weddings are also included. One can pray anywhere, but we hope to be able to provide a setting that encourages you to pray. Prayer changes the world. Have a Great Week!! But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. -Galatians 5:22-23

Those times when everything is rushed, your tired, and can not keep up? Those days at work are on a dead run, and you do not have time to stop and catch your breath. Your evenings are full of appointments then something else breaks down, and you do not have time to fix it. Some days I feel this way. When I do I know that God will help me. One morning I woke up feeling this way. I had just started reading in Ecclesiastes for my daily Bible reading. One of the first things I read was 'Vanity of Vanities! All is vanity.' Vanity or futile because we are 'chasing after the wind.' I have read this many times, but I had to stop and think about what this was saying to me now. Sometimes I need to be reminded to 'stop and smell the flowers', and to 'count my blessings' instead of worrying about keeping up with everything. It was also telling me to trust in God to provide for me instead of 'my' fixing it. Just as Jesus told us in Matthew 6:25-34 do not allow ourselves to be overcome with worries and anxieties, but trust in God. -The Elders Bible Reading Here at the building on Wednesday Nights (Anyone who does not wish to read aloud can come and listen!) The benefits will greatly help this church. Thank you for all of those who prayed for my trip. -Arrty Rude Garden of Prayer Update We have water! Thanks to the amazing perseverance of Rick Blanchard and Kurtis Shaner, the sprinklers are in. Of course the two of them are 50 lbs lighter after working in this heat . . . Next we will get electricity thanks to Paul Welter and the sprinkler timers will go live! It's very exciting as we will really be able to plant and see things grow! Our garden is taking shape now that Mt. Sinai is near completion - one rock at a time and speaking of rock, we have two scripture rocks finished and two more in process, only 8 more to go! Thank you Margie Waddell for those burning bushes that we needed so much. And thank you Lord for sending the muscles of our helper Spencer Rouw, try to get to know him. Notice the equipment and big trench inside the garden? That is the middle of the stream bed that will run under the gazebo and holds all the piping for water. There will be a waterfall at the back of the stream and a pond at the front near the entrance of the garden. The roped off area is where the gazebo will sit. Rick has the fire pit finished, some benches and we are shaping up the areas to accommodate them. We are currently working on Garden of Eden that will have an apple tree in the middle of it and a snake to boot! (not real of course.) The last area to be developed will be the manger which is in the northeast corner, so don't be alarmed if you don't see anything happening there. Right now we need lots of Stella'd Oras and Day Lilies. These will line the outside perimeter of the garden berms. If anyone can spare some please see Georgette Rude. We will have a ladies evening planting fellowship with these right after we get the berms leveled on top and covered. We also need help with weed pulling, so if you can stop by and pull some out, we would appreciate it so much. Planting is a bit tricky right now due to the hot temperatures and we are planting what we can. We have to wait for fall temperatures to put in the fir trees. And, we would love landscaping fabric-any type- even bits and pieces! Janet Blanchard is keeping a log of each step along with photos, so we can see how the whole garden came to be. In about a month we will be ready to put together a press release. The community is beginning to stop by and inquire about our garden and the positive feedback is very encouraging. We cannot possibly give a completion date because there will always be work to do, but we hope to be open to the community by fall. Please be patient with us. Please pray for the efforts of all involved and if you would like to help with something, let us know, because many hands make short work! In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Gen. 1:1 Lets make this a wonderful beginning for someone who does not know Christ! C.C.S. ENROLLING NOW FOR 2003-2004 SCHOOL YEAR! Spread the word for us as we get ready for the next year.
