STUFF   Dave Shaner

Several good things happened this week. If you missed them, you missed some great fellowship and accomplishments. First, we had a very large crowd present for the Won by One singers from Pepperdine University last Wednesday evening. Of course, their primary goal is not only to encourage you in the faith through song, but to introduce and encourage you to consider Christian education for your children. Pepperdine is one of the most beautiful campuses in the United States, located in Malibu, California and overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Secondly, the Men's ministry met for a barbecue and helped with some work on the property. Thirdly, the Relay for Life took place last Friday at Lake City High School. Many of you were there and we appreciate your concern for community projects. In addition, there have been many volunteers that have been painting the classrooms downstairs to help get them ready for the fall quarter. Several others have been working hard on the Prayer Garden which is a very large project.

The scriptures encourage us to give honor to whom honor is due. I would especially like to hold up to you Jerry Riggs who has been working on the grounds every week and makes himself available for many kinds of repair work. He is a true servant. He likely wouldn't even like me mentioning his name publicly, because he likes to do charity by stealth. In other words, he is not concerned with who gets the credit. We need to emulate his example of hard work in the kingdom and of a person finding a niche and doing what he can do. Be sure to thank Jerry for the fine work he consistently does.

Twelve individuals including nine members of the teen group spent last week in Tecate, Mexico conducting a Vacation Bible School and encouraging the small church that meets there. As of this writing, we have received word that they have had several baptisms and their attendance at the week long event has grown each day. Our teenagers are just that - teenagers, but they have been one of the more spiritual groups that we have had here in a long time. They have set an example to everyone as well as in their love for one another, their dedication to the Lord, and their desire to serve others. Be sure to let them know how much you appreciate them.

Have a Great Week!

If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, 'Love your neighbor as yourself,' you are doing right.

James 2:8

Shepherd's Corner

A wise man once said 'Start wrong, end wrong'. Have you ever had a day that it seemed nothing could go right? Possibly you've had that day turn into a week, a month, or even a year. You tried to make it out of that rut but just couldn't quite make it. The saying mentioned above lends keen insight into this phenomenon. If we don't start our day right it's not going to turn out right. The best way to begin your day is to pray. It puts you in a better mood, it gives you a renewed hope, and most importantly it maintains a close relationship with the one who can make your day right. We encourage all of you to start your day with prayer!

Camp Prince's Pine

Senior Camp for all 10th - 12th grades begins July 27th! The bus will be leaving right after worship next Sunday.

SEEKING RIGHTEOUSNESS

According to Jesus in Matthew 6:33, our top priority is to 'seek first his kingdom and his righteousness. If we embark on a search for righteousness, where do we go to find it? How do we determine what it looks like? What is righteousness? In an obvious way, we need not look further than Christ. He is our righteousness. It is by the transfer of his righteousness to our account that we are made acceptable to God. As his goodness and his love, because of our desire, come to dwell within us, his righteousness becomes a part of us. But it has to take hold within us as we grow in conformity to him.

Our righteousness is to exceed that of the Scribes and Pharisees, who majored in their efforts to achieve it. Righteousness can never be an achievement on our parts. Rather we become it, in direct proportion to his indwelling. Psalm 1 describes it as the impact on the life of a man who delights in the law of the Lord, and meditates on it day and night. He becomes like a fruit-bearing tree that is planted by living waters. Righteousness is the fruit of that tree....the result of one calling out in affection to God, 'O, how I love your law.'

As God's law lovingly reveals his perfect holiness, his righteousness, it also shows our imperfections and unrighteousness. This, in turn, drives us to the One whose righteousness is available to all who will turn to him in loving obedience. That same law serves as a restraint, a guide, helping us maintain a connectedness to the Righteous One. Our hearts must be open to his leading... 'What do you want me to do, Lord?'

In the life of every Christian, we strive to become the embodiment of the righteousness of Christ. True joy and awesome blessings are found in that process.

Thursday Night Youth Group

7:00 - 8:30 p.m. This is a weekly youth activity hosted in parents' homes or at the church building. We would also welcome opportunities to come to other church member's homes. If you would enjoy having a group of about 15 to 20 teens come and sing and laugh and share in your home, let us know, and we'll schedule a time.

C.C.S. ENROLLING NOW FOR

2003-2004 SCHOOL YEAR!

Spread the word for us as we get

ready for the next year. For more information

call the school office 772-7118

Enrollment is good. We would, however, like some single grade classes if enrollment permits it. Pray for additional students in 1st-4th grades!

Scholarships - If you can help with this for the new year, please see Dan DuPey or Betty Rude. This is an excellent way to contribute to Christian Education and the future of a child.

Ladies Bible Study

Ladies, we'd love to have you join us for our Tuesday a.m. Bible study and work project. We meet Tuesdays at 10:30 in the small auditorium. Bring your lunch and stay as long as you can to work; if you don't sew, maybe you can cut material? Our present project is making lap robes for nursing home patients. Things you can bring are scissors, cutting mat, yarn, fabric, etc. See you there!

Courage or Foolishness?

It takes a lot of courage

To put things in God's hands,

To give ourselves completely -

Our lives, our hopes, our plans -

To follow where he leads us

And make his will our own-

But all it takes is foolishness

To go the way alone!
