Family News May 25, 2003 Short By STUFF Dave ShanerThe No Debt, No Sweat! seminar with Steve Diggs went very well. Learning to live within our means, controlling our debt, and using our finances to glorify God needs to be a high priority for every Christian. If you were unable to attend, we do have audio tapes of all the sessions. In addition, the sessions are available on our website at www.dgchurch.org. There are also a few of Steve's books available through the office. Seminars are great, but now it is up to each of us to implement what we have learned. Let's encourage each other to 'excel still more' in our all of our lives, but in particularly our finances. Three weeks ago, the Dalton congregation participated in a 'Day of Destiny' fund raising campaign to retire the debt of Columbia College and enabling the Cascade Christian College to own their property. You contributed $2,400 toward this effort! Your generosity is greatly appreciated. The following is a letter from Cascade's President, Dennis Lynn: 'On April 27, Babe Ruth Day was celebrated in every ball park in organized baseball in the United States. On that historic day, an aging Babe Ruth appeared at Yankee Stadium to thank his former club and fans for the honor. On April 27, 2003, Christians across the country connected with the straightforward pitch that was thrown their way and hit one out of the park with the generous response to the 'Day of Destiny' campaign to eliminate the bond debt that encumbers the Cascade College campus. And on the playing field, all the honor and glory goes to God! Individuals, families, and churches stepped up to the plate, faithfully pointed to the opportunity before them and followed through with strength and commitment, gathering nearly $1.5 million to retire the bonds! Together, we have hit it hard, rounded first, second, third ... and we're headed home. With 'Day of Destiny' gifts enabling us to remove the bonds, we eagerly anticipate the opportunities and blessings that lie ahead. Let us keep our eyes on the goal before us and our prayers ascending to the Lord who watches over us! Thank you for being an important part of this team effort. We are so grateful for the outpouring of support and encouragement for the Lord's work on this campus, this corner of the country and beyond. And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying 'This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.' - Luke 22:19
Good News! Brandi Welter was baptized into the Lord last Wednesday night! Her tenacious study and questioning led her to this important decision, and it was a joy for many of us to be there to share the 'new birth' with her. Music Camp Registrations due by June 1st! All -Teen Camp Registrations due by June 7th! Church Planting In March, Ivan Archer and Lamont Petersen had an opportunity to attend a Church Planting workshop at Cascade College. Many churches in the brotherhood are not growing because of too much of an inward focus. The congregations that are growing are the ones that are planting churches. The small group concept is working to accomplish this, especially if a church can be planted near an existing congregation. The questionnaire recently distributed addressed this possibility, so we hope you all responded. If you did not complete the questionnaire, would you please do so today. Extra copies are available on the kiosk. WARREN BROWN & DON RUDE'S BIBLE STUDY will meet tonight at the home of Lynn and Warren Brown. A potluck meal starting at 4:45 p.m. will precede the study. Please bring a salad or dessert. The study will be followed by game time (feel free to bring a favorite game). Call 772-9956 for directions.Congregational Meeting June 1st 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. Small Auditorium Plan now to attend! The No Debt, No Sweat! seminar with Steve Diggs was great! We have five No Debt, No Sweat! books, left for sale. Call the office. Shepherd's Corner Next Sunday this congregation will participate in the 20th Annual Day of Prayer and Fasting with a special contribution. Through Manna International, assistance is provided to the less fortunate in many countries and this year a priority will be for Iraq. On June 1st, we are encouraging members to: 1. Pray with other Christians around the world. 2. Fast by skipping at least one meal. 3. Donate that money saved in our special contribution. Read Matthew 25:31-46. One way God desires us to serve Him, is by serving those in need. In meeting the needs of the hungry, thirsty, stranger, naked, sick and imprisoned, we are actually giving service to Jesus. -The Elders Ladies Craft Night! Our next Ladies Craft night will be on May 30, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Jean Grow. Bring your unfinished crafts and supplies to use and share, or come and learn a new one from someone else. Please bring your favorite snacks to keep us going. See you all there! Sympathy Our hearts go out to Kenneth Huseby and his family at yet another loss. His sister, Dora Tucker gave up her battle with cancer, and passed from this life on Wednesday afternoon about 2 pm. We admire the spiritual strength we have seen in Kenneth, and pray for God's loving arms to encircle him and the family at this difficult time. Thank Yous Ken Huseby's family and Ray Huseby's family wish to express 'our deep felt appreciation to all those who were so kind to us in our time of need in the death of our loved one, Ray Huseby. Dave Shaner was so good to us, also the elders of our church. It seems I could feel all the prayers from my many brothers and sisters in the congregation. May God bless you all.' 'Ladies thanks so very much for all the food you put together on very short notice for my uncles funeral. The family was very surprised and encouraged by your generosity.' Family Mike's Memos.... Guest article by Levi Sisemore What would you do if someone took away your Bible? Seriously, what do you feel you'd be missing if someone took away that leather-clad book you have? How long would it take for you to realize that it was missing? In the first chapter of his gospel account, John says that, 'In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. É The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.' We often quote that the Bible is the Word of God, and that it truly is. John says that Jesus, himself, is the Word of God incarnate! I ask again: 'What would you do if someone took away your Bible?' How do you regard your Bible? Is it the source of Life? Is it as important to you as anything? The most comforting thought in Christianity is that God is always with us. He never leaves us. Without Christ, though, there can be no hope in Christ. Without Jesus, we have painted for us a bleak picture of existence. There is no light at the end of the tunnel (no light - period - in fact) without Him. 'Alone' is a word foreign to Christianity. Would you allow someone to take the Savior away from you? What if the means to know Jesus was taken? What if his autobiography was not available? In the Word of God there is Life Ð Jesus is the Word, Jesus is the Life. Will we let anything stand in the way of holding on to this marvel of a book? So, I ask again: What would you do if someone took away your Bible/Jesus/Life? Kick-off - May 31st! Next Saturday we will make our annual trek to the Fredrikson's home on Spirit Lake for 'Kick-off'....the time when we formally include next year's seventh graders in the Youth Group, and kickoff our summer activities. We will leave the church building at 11 am and everyone is expected to bring a sack lunch to share for a picnic when we arrive. Also bring cookies (girls) and chips (boys), and whatever soft drinks you want for the day. I hope everyone in the youth group and several parents will attend. We will return to the building at about 9:30 pm. Camp time!! Yes, it is time to get your registrations in for Music Camp and All Teen Camp.
