Family News May 11, 2003 Short By STUFF Dave ShanerOur No Debt, No Sweat! Seminar begins next Sunday morning. Steve Diggs, from Nashville, Tennessee, will be preaching and teaching in the morning and the actual seminar will be on Sunday and Monday evenings beginning at 7 pm. The church often openly discusses divorce, remarriage, alcoholism, drug abuse, along with many other subjects, but we are often afraid to discuss our personal finances. We have recently completed the 'Take God at His Word' series which focused on the spiritual aspects of our giving. This series will help us learn to get our personal finances under control so that we are not owned by the Debt monster. Steve Diggs presents his No Debt, No Sweat! Seminars at churches and other venues nationwide. The seminar is perfect for people who are financially sound and looking for investment strategies. It is also aimed at those who are in financial turmoil needing a successful plan for getting out of debt. No Debt, No Sweat! discusses the importance of bringing Biblical principles to our money matters. Steve's style is humorous and up-beat. Many people are burdened and broken by the stress of too much debt. Steve speaks to the hearts of people who have too much month left at the end of their money. The seminar is also perfect for people who have invested wisely and are looking for some great tips on how to grow their college and retirement savings. This seminar is not aimed at selling you a financial product, but simply offers some sound biblical advice on the value of escaping the debt monster, how to budget, how to save for retirement, among many other topics. You will enjoy this. It would be great to invite your friends to this very practical seminar. Have a Great Week!!

Teachers, please have a rough idea of your lesson plans and a list of what supplies you will need for your art project. We would like to get things organized as early as possible. All volunteers interested in helping with decorating or helping out in any way are encouraged to attend. Please come! Attention Secret Sisters! Ladies, everyone who signed up to participate in Secret Sisters should now be assigned a sister. You will find your Secret Sister's information sheet in your mailbox. Remember to contact your Secret Sister at least once a month! There is also now a Secret Sister bulletin board up in the foyer for you to post thank you notes to the Secret Sister who got your name. Don't forget to check it! Congratulations! Tim and Angie Storms are proud to announce that they are expecting an addition to their family in January. Prayers are requested for them during the pregnancy. Because Angie is diabetic, they will have to keep an extra close eye on her blood sugar levels which will require frequent testing during the day and many test strips. If anyone would like to help supply these, she uses Freestyle test strips. Soup Kitchen Help Needed The Fellowship Ministry has operated the Soup Kitchen for a long time and it has gone very well. People have been served and the love of God has been shared. Those who have ministered in it have been greatly blessed. It is also a time consuming ministry. We need a volunteer to head up the Soup Kitchen. If no one volunteers by May 18, it will be discontinued as of May 28. If you would like to lead in this, please see George or Joanna Wuest today. You don't seek me because of who I am, but because you want a free meal. Jesus said this to the crowd that came searching for him in Capernaum after he had fed the 5000. He exposed their true motives, but then went on to say, 'Don't work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life which the son of man will give you, for on him the Father has placed his seal of approval.' Jesus wanted to give them something so much better.... himself....God's most wonderful gift. They just wanted more fish and bread, and maybe another demonstration of his awesome power. The question is, 'Why do you seek him?' Are you only looking for Jesus because you want what he can give you? Are you a disciple of Jesus, a Christian, because you truly want to be in his heart, in the center of his love, and he in yours? Are you willing to be what he wants, and do what he wants with or without your own agenda? Or are you seeking Jesus as they were, with an agenda of expectations? You know, a fulfilling life - health, food, safety, protection, success. a church family, social acceptance, a place for the kids, etc., etc. These are wonderful blessing from God, but they are not the proper motivation for a relationship with Jesus. Even the promise of heaven is not the reason for one to have a relationship with Jesus, although it is the ultimate result from that relationship. We need to seek Jesus...to fall in love with Jesus because of who he is....to want to share life with him because he is the truest, purest friend we can have. All the myriad of awesome side benefits we receive from that relationship are incidental to the agape, no strings attached, love that should grow between us. We should seek Jesus because of who he is, not because of what he can do for us. Are you drawn to him, or do you seek him with an agenda of expectations? Do you just want more fish and bread? In him, in his arms of love, there is so much more. New Bible Study Group ..... for teens and their parents at the Reeves' home.
