Our No Debt, No Sweat! seminar with Steve Diggs is only 2 weeks away. I would like to really encourage you to invite your friends and neighbors to this very practical seminar. He will teach us some great tools to get out of debt, stay out of debt, and how to use our finances that God has blessed us with to turn around and bless others. Financial stress is one of the major factors in the breakdown of many marriages. This seminar will enable you to improve your own disposition and your marriage. Nearly every one knows how financial stress can be so draining to a person not only emotionally, but also spiritually. Jesus knew this when he said, 'You cannot serve both God and money. There is so much about the handling of money in the scriptures. It can be a very useful tool in the hands of a disciple of Christ or it can become a noose around the neck when we don't handle it right. Money in and of itself is just that... a tool, but it can become a rival God demanding our very lives. Wouldn't you like to get a handle on this monster such that it becomes the servant to you not the other way around? If so, be sure to be here for each of the sessions May 18-19.

The Pepperdine lectures in Malibu, California, represent one of the largest gatherings of the churches of Christ each year. There were over 200 preachers and teachers that were very encouraging and practical. I personally have been reminded of our heritage that is very deeply rooted in seeking to follow the scriptures and not allowing the secular age to change the message of the gospel, which is so easy to do. The gospel is an unchangeable message. How we wrap it or present it may change with the times, but God's plan of salvation has been the same as it has been since the cross of Christ. People need the Lord. We're the people that God has selected to take the message to the world. It starts with me. It starts with you. Let's embrace the call of God.

Have a Great Week!

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.

-Psalm 139:23

May 18th 9:00 & 10:15 a.m.

and 7:00 p.m.

May 19th - 7:00 p.m.

Today Christians desperately need the tools and the knowledge to get out of uncontrolled debt so they can be about Kingdom business. Our people are so busy dealing with debt and bad spending habits- their spiritual vigor is depleted. Most people are now spending 20% of their income paying off short-term, high-interest debt. And, the average Christian is giving barely more than 2% of his income back to God. Money problems are the #1 cause of divorce- by a rate of 4 to 1 over the next thing! At a No Debt No Sweat! Seminar people learn how to kill the Debt Monster and develop spending plans that really work! The seminar gives hope and brings spiritual renewal. It increases giving and restores romance in marriages. It is both humorous and confessional- yet profoundly Biblical.

Hey Everybody, Eat In - Instead of Out!

Potluck - May 18th, after services. Bring a dish and the prayer garden planting committee will provide coffee and lemonade. We will give a brief idea of what is currently going on at this phase. A can will be available for any contribution you would like to give toward the purchase of trees.

Stephen Ministry

We are in the process of organizing the second class for Stephen Ministers. This week letters were sent to several individuals. If you did not receive a letter and would like to be considered for this class, please notify either Dave Bruner, Ralph or Anna Crump concerning your interest.

It's Secret Sister Time!

Ladies, the deadline to turn in your secret sister information sheets is today, May 4th. Give them to Katrina Swaim (or put them in her box.) If you still need one, extras can be found on the kiosk.

Shepherd's Corner

Most of us are familiar with Manna International. On June 1, 2003 the 20th Annual Day of Prayer and Fasting will be observed by churches of Christ around the world.

On June 1, we are encouraging members of this congregation to join in prayer on behalf of the helpless and lost. Also, to Fast by skipping a meal and then donate that money saved in a special contribution.

Read Matthew 25:31-46. One way God desires us to serve Him, is by serving those in need. In meeting the needs of the hungry, thirsty, stranger, naked, sick and imprisoned, we are actually giving service to Jesus.

-The Elders

Attention Ladies:

It is only 5 months until our 2003 Ladies Fall Fellowship, Saturday, October 4, 2003. This year we have an exciting speaker, Katherine Cooper, but final decisions on the title, topic, and theme have not been

completed. We need to start forming our committees and planning now. Some of you have already volunteered to head committees, etc. But everyone's help is needed to make the day bring glory to God and encourage one other. To this end we will have an important meeting Thursday, May 8th at 6:30 pm at the church building. Please plan on attending and being involved, whether heading a committee, or just being a helper, you are needed. Be thinking how you want to help. Remember the purpose of the Ladies Fall Fellowship:

1. To involve our ladies in working together to serve the Lord and draw closer to one another.

2. To be an encouraging, uplifting day and growing time for our sisters as Christian women.

3. To be a non-threatening time to share Christ with our non-Christian family and friends.

4. To bring glory to God.

See you there.

Thank Yous!

Dear Church,

From the Hartofilax family we would like to praise God for His miracles at hand. We would also like to thank God for our brothers and sisters in Christ that were so very generous in the offering last week. It was very overwhelming but again that is the miracle of God. So again thank you very much for the offering. It put our feet back on the ground. We hope and pray that God uses us in the same way. Amen.

Love in Christ, The Hartofilax Family

Thank you for all your prayers, thoughts and visits. They were greatly appreciated. Ron is doing really good and getting stronger everyday.
