STUFF   Dave Shaner

This has been a great week as many activities are taking place. First of all, I would like to commend the entire congregation for their spirit of generosity over the last several weeks. Not only have our regular weekly contributions been doing extremely well, but you also contributed approximately $3,000 to help the Hartofilax's out in their time of need. As Paul commended the Corinthians to do, we need to excel in all areas of our Christian walk including faith, speech, knowledge, love, and in our giving as well. Giving is a way of life and God will always bless you when you keep Him and the needs of others as priorities.

Next Sunday we will have the opportunity to contribute to Cascade College. Cascade is a Christian College located in Portland, Oregon. It is a part of Oklahoma Christian University. Many of our members have attended Cascade in the past and we currently have three students there from this congregation. April 27 has been designated as their 'Day of Destiny' whereby they are seeking to buy the current campus from the old Columbia College. If they can raise 2 million dollars from members throughout the United States, they will own the campus outright, no longer have to make monthly rent payments on the property, and eliminate the indebtedness of Columbia. Cascade is growing and provides a valuable service to churches particularly in the Northwest. We will have a special time next Sunday morning for you to contribute to this good cause. You may make your checks out to either the Dalton Gardens church or to Cascade. Any student attending Cascade whose home congregation participates will also receive a $500 scholarship for next year. We would like to encourage you to consider this and give generously for this good work.

The LTC teens traveled to Phoenix this week for a time of encouragement and reward for the work they have done all year. Every teen that attended in Phoenix had to complete at least 10 service projects for people in the community, participate in Bible bowl, scripture reading, chorus, along with a host of other activities of their choice including drama, puppets, art, speech, radio minute message. Be sure to keep them in you prayers as they travel back.

Have a Great Week!

For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve.

- 1 Corinthians 15:3-5

Leadership Training for Christ

Although leadership training for Christ is a lifelong process (or should be!), our 9 months of training in the LTC program is finished for this year. As always, we've had our ups and downs, but I'm extremely proud of the growth I continue to see in our kids in this program. Both those who attended the convention, and those who only did pre-convention events and Bible Bowl study have shown steady growth and are continuing to be beautiful blessings in God's family here.

Next Sunday night, in lieu of Bible Study Groups, we want to share with all the church family some of the skills we have been working on. Please plan to be here for Dalton Gardens LTC Celebration from 5:30-7:00pm. Your presence will be an encouragement to all of us.

Welcome to the Family!

Connie & Jack Kelly as well as Tom & Amber Kelly would like to be recognized as members of the Dalton congregation. Be sure to welcome them into the family. Their addresses are:

We Need Your Help!

On Saturday, April 26, 2003 at 9:00 a.m. we are planning to begin work on our Garden of Prayer. We need volunteers with garden rakes and shovels to assist us in raking rocks off the existing berms so we can begin planting trees, bushes and flowers. Approximately (4) hours work, pizza for lunch.

FAMILY CAMP

MAY 23-26

This is a wonderful opportunity for your family to spend together in the beautiful outdoor setting of Camp Prince's Pine on Lake Thomas. Christian families from all over the Northwest will enjoy a weekend of fellowship and fun. Pat Lang of the Northside congregation in Spokane is the director and needs to hear from you if you plan to go. Registration forms are available in the lobby.

Shepherd's Corner

Failure doesn't mean you have accomplished nothing.....it does mean you have learned something. Failure doesn't mean you don't have it......it does mean you were willing to try. Failure doesn't mean you've wasted your life.....it does mean you have a reason to start afresh. Failure doesn't mean you should give up....it does mean you must try harder. Failure doesn't mean God has abandoned you....it does mean God has a better idea.

The surest way not to fail is determine to succeed by persistent living by Christ's will one day at a time. If you wish success in life make perseverance your bosom friend, experience your wise counselor, caution your elder brother and hope and faith in God your guiding light.

For you are never a failure when you do God's will (Matthew 6:10) therefore be strong in the Lord and in His will. Prov. 3:5. 'Not my will but yours be done, O God' Luke 22:42. 'Let go and let God.'

Mike's Memos....

Surrender

When a person finally reaches the point of complete surrender to the Master, it leaves him feeling as though every troublesome issue in life is completely and eternally resolved. That may be a little overstated, but at least in one sense, it's true. For the first time you know that you are on the right course, heading in the right direction. Following Jesus, getting to know him, trusting his lead seem like such perfect things to do. But submitting to his lead is only the beginning. Now, there are life changes that will take years in the process.

You see, surrender to Jesus happens.....and then it continues.... and grows. The more of my life I examine under the searchlight of his word, the more I find that I need to surrender to him. You'd think it would get easier, and it might, but some things may be deeply embedded in my life 'before Christ'. Surrendering those things will be hard, and may take years of struggle. Do I really trust the Lord with all that I have, and for all that I need?

For some reason it is much easier to trust the Lord for someone else's needs than it is to trust him for my own. That truth hurts, you see, because it challenges me once again to surrender. Do I really believe he will take care of my needs the same way I believe he will take care of the needs of others? And am I willing to place all that I have at his disposal, or do I feel a need to maintain control myself? Do I continue to take charge of all the physical stuff, and let him take charge of the spiritual stuff? Have I really surrendered?

Jesus' approach to Israel was simple: He stepped into the center of their world, and through his words and actions enabled everyone to see exactly who he was and what he was like. Then he allowed everyone the freedom to decide what they would do about it. Some surrendered to him; others rejected him, while others were simply apathetic. Nothing has changed. Through the power of God's Spirit we have a record of the ministry of Christ....his wonderful teachings and his awesome miracles. Will we be apathetic? Will we reject? Or will we surrender? You see, most people are pleased to take whatever they can get from the Master...his blessings, a confidence in prayer, even his name - 'Christian', and then walk away. But to really surrender means that we have to submit everything we have and everything we are to him, and want him more than anything else. To those who do, he allows them to see his heart. Most are never able to see his heart, because they are never willing to give him theirs.

CCS CORNER SCHOOL NEWS

Spring is here and with it is the busy-ness of it all. But what fun it is! We have lots of fun things coming up. Like crazy hair day this Friday. So look out, there will be a lot of wild hair confections running around. But this event is a perennial favorite among our students. Another fun event to include in your calendar is Coeur d'Alene's 4th of July Parade. We again this year will enter a float. Last year we won 2nd place!

Please keep saving all your Campbell Soup labels and Box Tops for Education. We have already earned enough for some new playground equipment. We will soon be getting and installing a 'Funhoop'!

Please keep saving those box tops, we are going to work towards another new piece of equipment.

Enjoy your Easter Sunday!

Love, Mrs. Dehlbom (Grade 4K)
