Family News April 13, 2003 Short By STUFF Dave ShanerThis week concludes our series on giving, but our standard of giving hopefully has changed forever. Many have written notes of encouragement sharing the blessings that they have received from understanding this topic better. In the middle of all of this we have had additional opportunities to give to special projects. The Coeur d'Alene Christian School, LTC (Leadership Training for Christ), some benevolent needs of our members have all required more of our resources. But there is a special blessing that you have likely received from these opportunities. II Corinthians 9:8, 10-11 says, 'God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. ... Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.' In other words, when you give to one good work, God will make sure you have more to give to the next good work. The riches you receive will go beyond financial as you will be made rich in every way. This doesn't make sense from a worldly point of view; but that is exactly what this series has been about. Learning to trust God more deeply, learning to act in faith, learning the truth that indeed, 'it is more precious to give than to receive.' - Acts 20:35. On April 27th, we also have the opportunity to contribute to a good work. Cascade College would like to retire the old debt from Columbia. By doing so, this would eliminate their rent payments allowing them to own the property outright and place them on much better financial grounds. They are seeking to raise around two millions dollars from churches primarily throughout the Northwest. The property is worth well over ten million dollars. They have called this their 'Day of Destiny' and we have the opportunity to help them out. We have had several of our own members attend this college and currently have two students there. This school has been a blessing to this church. Any student that attends Cascade will receive a $500 scholarship if their home congregation participated. So we are helping our own students as well as the college. Let's make plans now to be generous on April 27th. Have a Great Week!! 'Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.' -Luke 6:38
Take God at His Word We praise God for his great outpouring of blessings during our Take God at His Word series. Several members have already begun sharing their stories of faith when they gave more than they thought they could and God provided for their needs. As you experience God's faithful provision, please share these stories with us in the church office. We will have an opportunity to share these accounts with Christians beyond our congregation. No Debt, No Sweat We will be hosting a No Debt, No Sweat seminar by Steve Diggs on May 18-19. This is a seminar designed to teach us how to control our finances and God's way of handling our money. John Hughes*Chris Flick*Virginia Filbeck Mike's Memos.... The story is told about the completion of Disney World in Florida. Someone said, 'Isn't it too bad that Walt Disney didn't live to see it?' Mike Vance, creative director of Disney Studios, replied, 'He did see it. That's why it's here!' There is power in a vision. Walt Disney had a keen sense for the art of seeing the invisible things that would eventually become reality. When Henry Ford had his vision for building cars in mass production he said, 'I'm looking for a lot of men with an infinite capacity for not knowing what can't be done.' He was looking for men with vision. I believe the world's greatest visionary was none other than Jesus Christ. He came from the unimaginable richness of the presence of God in heavenly realms, inhabited a human body like mine, looked around and chose twelve men and started a kingdom that would encompass the whole world and would transcend this world. And he knew you and I would be a part of it! He certainly saw invisible things that would become reality, and he was definitely looking for men with the capacity for not knowing what can't be done. Now the question is, have we caught the vision? In the Lord's work there is a great need for men who look to God's word and see the importance of having a vision worthy of the King of Kings. I love the visionary promise and insight found in Paul's statement in Ephesians 3:20-21. 'Now to him who is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.' God desires greater things for the church than I am capable of envisioning. I need to catch the vision of Christ. Then, I need to believe that he is able to make it happen in me and through me. Then.....I need to be willing to let it happen...to be available, a willing servant. Jesus recognized the tremendous potential in the tiny mustard seed. His vision can be accomplished in us if we recognize the potential we have in the church, both individually and collectively. We need to recapture the vision of Christ, and the boldness and persistence of the early Christians. Amen? Leadership Training for Christ The LTC convention in Phoenix April 17th - 20th is upon us, and I know a group of kids(and some of us older ones as well) who can hardly wait. Our funds are all in. The garage sale was a great success. Our thanks to all who contributed, purchased, and served. And, thanks to all our church family who continue to support LTC and all the youth program here in so many ways. TRI-CITIES YOUTH RALLY May 16th - 18th CCS CORNER SCHOOL NEWS Always Do RightJesus said, 'Do all things that are right.' Matt. 3:15 Knowing God's Word....... What makes Mommy happy? When you pick up all your toys. What makes daddy happy? When you don't make too much noise. What makes Grandma happy? When you hug and kiss her tight. And what makes Jesus happy? When you tryto do what's right! Jesus wants us to do good, kind things and to obey God. Jesus obeyed God when he was baptized. This was how Jesus told God he loved him. And God was happy that Jesus did what was right. Jesus always did what was good and right. And Jesus always obeyed God. Jesus wants us to obey God, too. How do we know? The Bible tells us so! Miss Utter is teaching Bible class and teaching K4 - 1st grade, doing what is right. Thank Yous! Thank you for your prayers for our grandson, Benjamin Madsen. He is now home doing well and gaining weight. He now weighs 4 lbs. 4 oz.! -Dale & Sandy Perkins We cannot ever express our sincere thanks and joy that you have given us during the recuperation time of my recent surgery.
