STUFF   Dave Shaner

Next Sunday, March 16, we will be distributing an exciting new book, Take God at His Word.' Each family will receive one copy to share at home. We will explore God's Word in a sermon series based on the book, the following week. Be sure to get your book this next Sunday at the distribution table in the foyer.

I appreciate Arrty Rude preaching in my absence this week. Arrty teaches in the Coeur d'Alene Christian School and shows a great love for children. He is a very fine example of spiritual growth and you are sure to enjoy his message. I am taking a class this week at the Harding Graduate School in Memphis and would appreciate your prayers. An anonymous letter was written to me recently asking me about why I am taking additional schooling. We live in a world of change. The world is not the same place as it was 25 years ago. God's Word is always relevant and does not need to be changed to accommodate a changing culture. However, with the different thought patterns present today, we need to seek to change our methods so that we can be more effective. Over the years, items such as church facilities, Sunday schools, youth groups, bus ministries, ministry systems, fellowship activities, Power Point presentations, gospel meetings, etc. have been used to better deliver the message of God. You don't read about any of these in the Bible, per se, but we recognize them as just vehicles to better deliver the Word.

Many people are threatened by change. But as society changes, we still need to take God's Word and show it's relevance to people. It doesn't matter how valuable the message is, if nobody is present to hear the message. We need to embrace change; not change that tampers, even in the least, with the scriptures, but change that helps us to keep up with the times. We need to ask, 'What can I learn from others?' Something is not wrong just because a denomination does it. If something is good and accomplishes the purposes that God has laid out for us to do, then we need to not be afraid of it. Mistakes will be made and a change of direction may sometimes be necessary, but allow God's Word to guide you and launch out into the deep.

I Chronicles 12:32 refers to the men of Issachar as those 'who understood the times and knew what Israel should do.' Let's be like the men of Issachar!

Have a Great Day!!

In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

But someone will say, 'You have faith; I have faith; I have deeds.'

Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do. -James 2:17-18

'Dead Men Walking'

This coming weekend is the 24th annual youth rally here at Dalton Gardens church of Christ. It is a challenge and an honor each year to host teens and sponsors from churches in the Northwest, and to share a youth focused, spiritual weekend with them. God uses us as we share our time and our homes and ourselves with others. As we become His blessings, we receive His blessings. The rally pushes us out of our comfort zones, and causes us to think more of others, instead of always having things 'my way'. It challenges us to grow....in His love, in His worship, and in His service.

PLEASE be willing to help us provide housing for our guests. Sign up at the kiosk, and / or talk with Kim Borsheim or Patty Welter. We need LOTS of cookies. Please bake / buy cookies and bring them by the building by Friday evening. If you are willing to do this, let the office know to put you on 'the cookie list'.

PLEASE be flexible with the changed schedule for next Sunday morning's worship time as follows:

9:30 - 10:15 Worship -1st half

Singing / Prayers / Scriptures

Lesson presented by James Graham

10:25 - 11:30 Worship - 2nd half

Gospel Meeting

The Church of Christ in Coeur d'Alene, 917 N. 4th St. is hosting a Gospel Meeting on Strengthening Family Relationships. You may see the flyer on the bulletin board for more details.

Shepherd's Corner

Where is God in your life? Matthew 22:37-38 says, 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.'

God is to be the center of our lives. This is why he told the Israelites to worship no other gods. Ex. 20:4-5 says, 'You shall not make for yourself an idol....You shall not worship them or serve them....'

Are we letting other things become the center of our lives? Sports, cars, money, work, relationships?? Are they becoming our idols? It can easily happen. This is why I John 5:21 encourages us, 'Little children, guard yourselves from idols.'

Are you making God the center of your life?

Getting to Know You Better

Two of your shepherds with the church here are now meeting on Sunday mornings at 9:00 a.m. with a different family each week in an effort to better meet your needs. They will be getting your input and offering ways in which you will be able to get involved in the work of the Lord's church. So........ when you are called, welcome their invitation as they want to serve you. They are starting with the newer members, but if you would like to meet sooner, please contact the office.

Thank you!

Thanks to every one for the cards, visits, and flowers and especially for your prayers. I'm feeling better, but I have really missed being at worship.

IT'S COMING THIS WEEKEND

MIQVAH 2003

March 14th - 16th

'Dead Men Walking'

Teens, the time has come. Our youth rally is upon us. With God's help we have some awesome plans for a great week of sharing the wonderful love of God and the power of his Son, Jesus, with all the teens and youth leaders who join us for the weekend. We already have a good many registration forms in, and I know the mailbox will be full the first part of this week. Our planning work is done, but the implementation is just about to begin. It is very important for all of you to come by the church after school as often as you can this week to help with set-up, to practice on lesson presentation, and a bazillion other last-minute details we must have finished before Friday evening.

Church Family, I know the youth rally pushes us out of our comfort zone a little, but I'm sure we can all see the wonderful opportunities God is placing in our hands. Jesus told the Samaritan woman that he could give her living water. Although she could not understand him at that time, we can understand. And the Lord blesses us with another opportunity to share MIQVAH, the water that gives life. God is watching, and smiling as we place this living water in the hearts of the teens of the Northwest. This message is not only taught during the weekend, but it is shown by all of us as we share our hearts, homes, cars, food, time, and worship with them.

I know all of us anticipate a wonderful weekend together.

Leadership Training for Christ

All pre-convention events are now complete and sent to Phoenix. Some excellent work has been done. Next week we will begin work on convention events, as we anticipate the trip to the convention April 17th - 20th. The LTC program continues to develop obvious leadership skills in our kids...and we are proud of them.

Friday Night Youth Group - 7:00 - 8:30pm This is a weekly youth activity hosted in parents' homes, at the church building, or somewhere else in the community. Sometimes we sing at a nursing home. Sometimes we go to the mall. Sometimes we host Spokane youth groups, and that's lots of fun. We would also welcome opportunities to come to other church member's homes. We love getting to know you better. We appreciate those who have already hosted us. Thanks!

CCS CORNER - School News

YOUTH RALLY....and DEAD MEN WALKING!

Time may catch us off guard and the Youth Rally will be here! This is a time for all of us to enjoy some great leadership skills coming from our teenagers. The singing is always great and encouraging. And, the classes always seem to give us a little insight into the spiritual strength and understanding of our young leaders. The strength, excitement, and understanding

of our youth can encourage us in many ways. Often, as we walk down the road of life we encounter many difficulties. How do we respond to these difficulties? As God's people, are we acting accordingly? Are we doing what God wants and expects us to do? Are we maturing with a "Christ-like" attitude as we live each day?

We see many individuals in the world and in the Church that acquire and enjoy positions of authority. How do we use these positions? What kind of influence are we giving and showing to others? How should we live? If we are "In Christ" we will be utilizing our leadership positions to guide, encourage, and direct others down the road to salvation. If we are "In Christ" we will seek out to serve and admonish others. If we are "In Christ" we will be there for others. The little things can mean so much. Many times we see God's people living an empty life. Instead of encouraging, studying, and serving, we see fellow Christians walking a "hollow" life. Are we "dead" to Christ, but alive to the world? It is often so easy to be pulled the wrong direction. Let's pray that we continue to study, serve, and lead according to what God would want us to do. It is so exciting to live a life knowing what our reward is! Isn't it? It is so exciting to know when you have made a difference in a person's life. A simple helpful, caring hand can light up a person's day! Let's pray that we can continue to be excited, walking each day with each step full of Life, living our lives in a way that would encourage God to say, "Well done Good and Faithful Servant!"

Aloha! We're goin' Hawaiian!
