STUFF   Dave Shaner

The Marriage Matters seminar with Jerry and Lynn Jones starts next Sunday morning. It is hard to gauge how many people will be here next week, but we will likely have a much larger than normal attendance. We will be setting up the small auditorium as an overflow for those unable to find a seat. I would like to encourage our own members to give up their seat so that our guests can sit in the main auditorium. Of course, if you bring some friends, it would be better to stay with your guests. Most likely, this scenario will only be at the Sunday morning hour. I would also like to thank those who came out Saturday morning to help canvas the Dalton Gardens neighborhood distributing brochures. Your help was invaluable. With one week to go, be sure that you have distributed some brochures yourself in your own neighborhood and to your friends and work associates.

It is very important to have as many as we can to attend the 9 am session for Sunday morning. Lynn will be speaking to the ladies in the small auditorium with Jerry speaking to the men in the larger one. These lessons will set the stage for much of what goes on during the week. We have also made this 'Friend Day.' It would be great to set a record attendance for that day. You may pick up additional brochures at the kiosk in the foyer of the church building.

Our culture has launched an invasion against the biblical principles in regard to the family. This is not new. Divorce was rampant in the first century and, at times, among the Jews in the Old Testament. But the forces of evil know that if they can attack the family and succeed, they very likely can go a long way in turning you away from God. Our relationship with Christ is likened to a marriage (Ephesians 5). The church collectively is the family of God and we are all brothers and sisters of one another. But just as in any earthly family, when things are going well, peace, joy, and happiness exists. Be sure to tell your spouse just how much you love her/him this week. Give your children some extra hugs and assurance. And while you are at it, let your spiritual family know how much you care as well. I am looking forward to next week!

Have a Great Week!!

Finally, brothers, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more. - I Thessalonians 4:1

The Benevolence Ministry Thanks You

The Benevolence Ministry would like to thank all of the people that have dug deep into their own pockets and have helped those in need. Recently the Benevolence Ministry has been able to help some people in need mostly from funds raised by loving members to help out others. So a big THANK YOU to all those that have helped recently and in the past!

On another note, I would like to thank Betty Wilhoite and Edna Miner for coming on board and helping in the Food Pantry. They will be organizing the pantry, making needs known for donations, and creating food boxes for the needy. I also want to thank Kim Howard & the office staff, the Elders, Pat Riggs and Dan & Terry Dupey for all their work in getting help to those in need.

We can truly see the love of the Lord in all of you. Thanks again, Scott Dehlbom

Mike's Memos....

Modeling Christianity to our kids

In one of the more recent books I've been reading, a statement was made that keeps nagging at me. It deals with one of the areas of Christianity where we seem to be falling down. The statement: 'Participation in the church's corporate worship must be modeled by adults, taught by the teachers, and expected as normative in the growing Christian life.

There is so much in our 'Christian culture' to say nothing of the worldly culture, that promotes the non-biblical concept of churchless Christianity.....that I can have a saving relationship with Jesus while living my life on the outside of his body, the church. Hello!! Jesus died for his church; he shed his blood for her; our very lives are to be wrapped up with him in his church.

My question / challenge for us adult members of Christ's church here in Dalton is....how much energetic, enthusiastic, committed participation are you modeling for our kids here? In your life, do they see enthusiasm or apathy? Are they drawn to the church by your obvious devotion to her? If they follow your role model will they put the Lord and his church consistently in first place in their lives? Will their attendance at worship times, classes, Bible study groups, congregational meetings, special seminars, fellowship times, etc., reflect a great example you have set for them? Will they live up to the 100% expectation of God? That's right...100%. God will not accept a half-hearted commitment. With him it is all or none. All or not at all.

As someone has correctly stated, 'It takes a whole church to raise a Christian kid.' The cooperation of parents, youth leaders, and the church family are all crucial to the growth of Christianity in our children. Weakness in any of those elements is sure to impact the outcome. I hope you will be determined not to be the weakest link! We have some great kids in this church. Let's build a fire...fan the flames, and create a church family environment where they will want nothing more than to be actively involved.

Friday Night Youth Group

Last Friday night's Youth Group activity was exciting as we hosted the teens from Northside for a songfest. We shared an hour of singing, especially learning some newer songs, then we enjoyed some refreshments and fellowship time. It's always fun to get together with other groups of Christian teens. We appreciate Jeff & Sharon Nirk for helping to coordinate these Friday night events.

Bible Bowl Challenge - Feb. 14th-15th

Our 3rd - 12th grade Bible Bowl teams will go to Richland for our second challenge on the book of Matthew. We will be covering chapters 1 - 20. Kids, let's be studying!!!

CCS CORNER - School News

Congratulations to Jenna and Ryan Davis! They won the prize for being the top candy selling family. The top selling classes were Mr. DuPey's 6th and 7th graders, and Mrs. Simpson's 2nd and 3rd graders! The Jr. High class gets a day off, and the 2nd & 3rd graders get a movie day! It was a very close race between Mr. Rude's 4th & 5th graders and Mr. D's class, so Mr. Rude's class was given an 8 pound chocolate bar!

The next Booster Club Meeting will be Tuesday, February 11, at 6:30 pm. Everyone is welcome. We will be discussing Valentine Orders, so if you would like to help with preparation or delivery, please join us. If you like books you will want to mark your calendars for the upcoming Book Fair - February 23-28!

Memory Verse for this week is: Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. Proverbs 12:18
