Short By STUFF Dave Shaner Our congregational meeting is this afternoon, January 19, at 3 p.m. Be sure to be here to discuss some family matters. Following the meeting we will be having an dessert/ice cream fellowship. The church here in Dalton Gardens has the opportunity to host a 'Marriage Matters' Seminar February 16-19. Jerry & Lynn Jones, from St. Charles, Missouri, will be presenting the seminar. This is a very popular seminar presented throughout the country. We have had them scheduled for three years. I would like to solicit your help in getting the word of the seminar out to the community. Many of our meetings here are more for the internal strengthening of the body. This seminar will do that, but it also provides a great opportunity to benefit the community and therefore be a great outreach tool. Financially, the church here has been somewhat down. Expenses have been up and the economy is down. To advertise this could run into thousands of dollars. Instead of making a mass mailing, we would like to ask you to spread the word of 'Marriage Matters' through word of mouth, handing out brochures to your friends, and distributing them through local businesses that are agreeable. This seminar will bless your life and will be a blessing to this church. As of this writing, the special contribution for the seminar has not been undertaken, but I would like to thank everyone in advance for what you were able to contribute. Some have indicated that they would like to contribute but need to wait until the end of the month when finances are more available. This is great and we would like to encourage each person to do what they can. If you were unable to contribute, and would like to, simply make your gift or pledge out to the church and turn it into the office. The Tweeners Retreat is next weekend. For those unfamiliar with what a Tweener is, this is simply the group that sometimes feels stuck between the activities of our youth group and Senior Saints ministries. It primarily encompasses families with children, but everyone is invited. The retreat will be held at Camp Prince's Pine and Scott Rouse, one of our shepherds, will be speaking on the theme, 'Families that Glow.' You can be in the snow or inside by the fire. It is sure to be a great time of fellowship and learning. HAVE A GREAT WEEK !! Good News!!! Yea Jared!!! You're happy; we're happy, and the angels rejoice at your spiritual birth. For those who don't know, Jared Wuest was baptized by his dad last Sunday afternoon. Congregational Meeting There will be a Congregational meeting this afternoon at 3:00 pm. We will be discussing plans for the year 2003 as well as receiving input from anyone desiring to do so. Included in this will be the mandatory Idaho State Incorporation Meeting. Also, following the meeting we will be having a dessert pot luck. So bring a dessert that will go with George's famous homemade ice cream. Everyone is encouraged to attend. 'Families That Glow' Tweeners Winter Retreat Don't be left out! January 24 - 26 ..... at Camp Prince's Pine If you have not signed-up yet, please do so today! What to bring: your Bible, warm clothes, games, sledding clothes and gear, snack foods, and any special needs food. Be prepared to share the cooking and cleaning duties. A musical stage production presented by the Coeur d'Alene Christian School Drama class. Admission is $6.00 per person or $10.00 per family, Thursday, January 23rd, 7:00 p.m. in the small auditorium. Senior Saints Mark your calendars for a Valentine's Pot luck Party at the Archer's on Saturday, February 15th, at 12:00 noon. More information and sign-up sheet to follow. Shepherd's Corner David wrote in Psalm 25:4&5 "Show me your ways O Lord, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.' In this passage David expressed his desire for guidance. How do we receive God's guidance? The first step is to want to be guided and to realize that God's primary guidance system is in his word. Ps. 119 tells of the endless knowledge found in God's word. By reading it and constantly learning from it, we will gain the wisdom to perceive God's direction for our lives. We may be tempted to demand answers from God, but David asked for direction. When we are willing to seek God, learn from his word, and obey his commands, then we will receive his specific direction. -The Elders All Church Work Day! We will be having a church work day on Saturday, February 1, from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. All ages are welcome to come. Please bring buckets and we will provide the cleaning supplies. God has blessed us with a very nice facility to meet in. Let's honor him in the care we show for it. Winter Address John & Minnie Santos New Arrivals! IT'S A BOY!!...JOSHUA DAVID LEE, son of Matt and Kathryne Lee, and grandson of Mike & Earlene Reeves. Baby and mom are home and doing great. IT'S A GIRL!!...GRACE ELIZABETH GWIN, daughter of Aaron and Christine Gwin, and great granddaughter of Doug and Jerri Gwin. Congratulations! They're Gone Again! Fred and Opal Bonney have returned to Albuquerque to complete the closing of their house sale. They will be gone about two months. Sympathy Our prayers are with the family of Chuck Spalding, especially our brothers Don and Larry Flanagan and their sister Betty at his passing. Chuck had suffered an extended illness. Prayer Requests Mildred Counts, a dear friend of Karmen Rouse, has bone cancer. Pray for comfort during this time. Dallas Miller, Jean Grow's father, is now residing at Lacrosse Health and Rehab Unit until he can regain some strength. Grant Brown recently was in an accident causing him to be paralyzed from his waist down. He and his family are having a difficult time and need our prayers. Debbie Hennes, a member of the Valley church, has M.S. and is struggling more at this time. Ruby Whittle, Cindy Rupnick's mother, had open heart surgery last Friday. She is at Deaconess Medical Center in Spokane. Rick Howard is recovering from heart replacement. The surgery went well, but there is a long road ahead. Wayne Welter, Paul Welter's brother, has a ruptured disc in his lower back. He will be having surgery soon. Dora Tucker, Ken Huseby's sister, has a spot on her right lung and liver. She will be going in for tests soon. Shawn Putnam has asked for prayers for his marriage and financial problems. Carole Fredrikson is at home doing much better. John Hughes, Karmen's step-dad, has advanced prostate cancer. He will be starting daily treatments. John Santos, Joyce Erwin's father, is recovering from triple bypass surgery and is doing better. Jesse Rupnick continues to battle cancer. Prayers are needed for him and the family. Anita Haman, Teen Pearson's daughter, continues to struggle and suffers lots of pain. Leo Ebel, Sharon Nirk's father, is suffering with lung cancer. Pray for Leo and the family. Pray for Dawn Morgan as she continues with chemotherapy. Service Men & Women - Let's pray continually for those who serve our country in this time of turmoil. Our local National Guard unit has been deployed as of January 30. This includes Michael Kish & Steve Howard. Pray for them and their families. Continue Praying For...... The Togo Team*Lisa Bagwell*Laura Dickson Mike's Memos.... Get Off the Roller Coaster (part three of a guest article by Brent Riggs - edited) At the end of last week's article we suggested that we begin to work on impulsive Christianity in the areas of daily living and routine. Living on a day-by-day basis allows us to turn our failures into 'bumps' instead of roller coaster hills. Routine creates boundaries; it prioritizes time; it trains the mind, body and heart to crave and expect what has become habit; it quiets the mind so you can meditate on God; it gives you security and peace. The success of daily living, and routine depends on consistency and discipline. The Apostle Paul said in 1 Thess. 4:10-12 'But we urge you, brethren, that you increase more and more; that you also aspire to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you, that you may walk properly toward those who are outside, and that you may lack nothing.' And in 2 Tim 2.2 he writes, '....that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.' One final thought: You can't have it all. That's crucial to this whole issue. If you want God, you have to give up and sacrifice to get Him. Very simply: Order your day around achieving your Godly objectives first - then prioritize your other responsibilities. That's it. Simple to say, excruciating to execute. You have to decide what you want the most. Remember: Impulsiveness says 'fix my whole life right now and become super Christian by tomorrow. I can have it all'. Discipline says 'Lord, what will you have me do today?' Then wake up in the morning, confess your sins and failures, get your marching orders for that day, and enjoy THE GOD OF NEW BEGINNINGS. Each day is a new day and new chance to please God and grow close to Him. Lam. 3:21-26 says, 'This I recall to my mind, therefore I have hope. Through the Lord's mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is your faithfulness. 'The Lord is my portion,' says my soul, 'Therefore I hope in Him!'' Lord, give us what we need to please You today, the faith to leave tomorrow in Your Hands, and the courage to forget about yesterday. Help us to live our lives in humble obedience to you, one day at a time. Amen. CCS CORNER - School News He called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. "And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me. (Matthew 18:2-5 NIV) God uses the little children around us to teach us life lessons. These lessons can only be obtained if we keep our hearts soft, eyes open, and ears alert....all the while being willing to be humbled - a little. Children are so honest. They say it as they see it, without the filter of years of political correctness. They also mimic us as they try to learn how to behave in our world. We can learn a lot about ourselves by watching and listening to them. We would do well to imitate their enthusiasm. Young children get so excited when they learn about Jesus. They love to be taught His word and to discuss it. Then they also deeply enjoy sharing all that they know with others. We should all become more like little children. -Lynelle Dehlbom Valentine's Day is Approaching! Soon CCS will be offering our annual valentine gifts that you can send to someone special. I would like to thank everyone for their prayers, cards and calls on my behalf during my recent surgery. -Opal Wilson Thank you church for the prayers for Carole. She is feeling better, but still not 100%. -Keith Fredrikson Thanks for all the prayers for my granddaughter, Mandy Martland. She is out of the hospital (again).
