STUFF   Dave Shaner

As we enter into the holiday season, we have so much for which to be thankful. Out of all of the holidays that we celebrate, Thanksgiving is probably the most spiritual of them all. After the apostle Paul encourages us to let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts, he adds '...and be thankful.' It is not an afterthought, but is the basis which allows us to be at peace. One can always find the doom and gloom side of just about anything. One that is thinking like this can never experience the peace that God wants us to have. A friend of mine was once having difficulties with his job and felt that his employer had mistreated him. It was my opinion that he had been mistreated. But instead of creating a scene or feeling bitter, he decided to thank his employer for the opportunity to work for him and then asked God to bless this man's business. I do not know how the business faired, but this man went home with peace in his heart. He decided that no matter what happened, that God would take care of him and his family.

Too often we let the world determine for us how to handle various 'negative' situations. God tells us not only to be thankful but to 'give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.' - I Thessalonians 5:18. I know that my own attitude has not been what it ought to be lately. It is so easy to let little things bug you that in the long view of things mean absolutely nothing. But this is exactly how life is viewed by many. You can choose to let outside circumstance govern your attitude or you can let Christ govern your attitude. Paul said in Romans 14:7-8, 'For none of us lives to himself alone and none of us dies to himself alone. If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.' As you sit down this week, take time to not allow the concerns of this life to crowd out the blessings that God has given you. They really do vastly out number our momentary and light troubles. God is so good. He cares for you. Let us be thankful.

HAVE A GREAT WEEK !!

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day--and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

- 11 Timothy 4:7-8

Shepherd's Corner

Some of us were not raised in the church and came into the body after our younger years. When you are not exposed to Christian teaching, it becomes more difficult to learn and change your life. Reading the Bible and praying daily will help that, but not as effectively as studying with someone else. I found that out when I got over my selfish attitude about time and started attending Sunday morning Bible classes, and began to learn and thirst for more. It was time that questions that were on my heart could be shared and answered. It filled a void and made my worship to God more fulfilling. If you find a void or desire to get to know God and the church better, I recommend you attend a Sunday morning Bible class. I think you will find that time well spent and very rewarding.

GOD BLESS THESE SERVING SAINTS:

Mike's Memos

I read the following letter in the new issue of Church & Family magazine. Zac had written it as an English class assignment just two weeks before he was killed in an auto accident. It brought tears to my eyes, and I thought it might tug at your heart as well. At a time of thanksgiving, our children are at the very top of our thank you list.

Dear Mom & Dad,

Through these long, crazy 16 years, who would have ever guessed that I would turn out pretty good. Reflecting back on all of our precious moments together, I shed tears many times. I know that I'm growing up in the world and making a name for myself because of you two. Although I admit that we have had our differences, quarrels, and arguments, I've somehow managed to turn out like you.

All of those corny jokes that we passed around the house from room to room always seem to circle around inside my head. After vacationing around the country, I didn't remember the sites as much as the love that we displayed for each other. You told me to try anything new, and maybe that is why I got into trouble sometimes. I remember thinking that you have an edge on my little brother, but you treated me the same way. By 'edge' I mean no harsh punishments, but then I never received any harsh punishments.

So here I am, trying to be that simple kind of man you taught me to be. I've learned so many things from you - manners, courtesy, compassion, and most of all, Christianity. The two of you brought God into my life, and you always showed me how great He is.

I am one of the few who can say that the only thing his parents pushed him to do is love anything and everything. I guess you thought if I wanted to be an athlete or a scholar, I would push myself. Once again, you were right. After seeing my friends' parents push them, I thank you for not treating me like that.

Mom and Dad, I want you to know that I truly love you both. If I said a negative thing about you, it would probably be that you never spent enough time for yourselves. Every time I was down, you picked me up, and every time I cried, you wiped away my tears. You loved my friends, and all my friends wanted parents like you. Sometimes I was too ignorant to see how great you were, and I'm sorry for that.

As I grow up and create a family of my own, all I can say is that I learned to be a great parent from you. Thank you for never loving any less than you always have.

Zac

DON'T WORRY....BE HAPPY!! by Dan DuPey

God has Blessed us today! He has kept His promise. He has done what He said he would do. He is ALWAYS TRUE. He is always RELIABLE. He is ALWAYS there.

Don't worry. Please don't worry. Take time to listen to Him. Open your heart and Don't worry. Eccles. 9:7 states that we should be happy as we eat! Thanksgiving was a time to be VERY happy for all of us. A time to reflect with friends and families. A time to eat together. A time to thank God, again, for all that He has done in our lives for all of us!

Luke 12:29 says "Do not keep worrying!" There is NO reason. We know that God knows all about us in whatever we do or say. He is the sail that we need to grab when we are down. He is sunshine in our day. He is "open arms" when we pray. He is the answer

when we question what others say! He knows about His earth. He understand what they need. He even knows about those hairs on our head! His heart is for us. His care is there!

Don't Worry. Just don't do it. Your gain will be nothing, but sadness, sickness and even death. God says to think of others, care for others, work towards their needs.

Prov. 14:21 says happy is he who is gracious to the poor. He tells us to think of others and you will be happy. There is no need...no time to worry. Help others, work with others! By doing this, you are serving and answering God's command. Don't Worry, Be Happy.
