Family News November 24, 2002 Short By STUFF Dave Shaner Your shepherds and preachers along with their wives spent Friday and Saturday in a prayer and planning session for the congregation. It is very important for the leadership to know one another spiritually. Each of our leaders is gifted in very different ways. Getting together for prayer and discussion of vital issues relevant to the maturing of the body of Christ helps each person to understand one another and gives a greater sense of teamwork. When leaders were selected in Acts 6, the apostles asked for men who were full of faith and the Holy Spirit. Sharing your faith and vision with one another encourages and inspires others to catch the dream. Jesus' command and dream was that the church be a battering ram knocking down the walls of Hell and introducing those held captive to the good news of salvation.- Matthew 16:16. He has asked each Christian to teach others to be disciples by baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. - Matthew 28:18-20. Spiritual leaders are to help unite the body in love and mature each saint such that the entire body grows. By taking extra time together seeking God's will, we were able to focus on that which is most important. It is often so easy to get distracted from what is most important. We live such very busy lives, that we can easily forget what we are really all about. God has commissioned all Christians to be His ambassadors. Our entire lives are to be seen in the light of simply being a traveler on earth whose final destination is a city whose architect and builder is God. It is important that we regularly examine our lives to be sure that we are keeping our priorities in the right order. Paul Faulkner stated that, 'We often spend so much time on the urgent that we never get around to the important!' How true this is. Our theme for the week centers around thanksgiving. God has blessed us in so many ways. This is a time of year that even our culture makes it a bit easier to focus on God. Let your light shine such that others know that you are a thankful person because of the grace of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. - Have a Great Week!! Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. - I Thessalonians 5:16-18

The Elders, Ministers and their wives spent the last two days together at a 'river retreat'. It is important for leaders to spend time together seeking the Lords will and allowing the Holy Spirit to guide and direct our efforts. What a blessing it was for the leaders and their wives to spend time in fellowship and prayer and drawing closer to one another as we drew closer to God.
