Family News November 17, 2002 Short By STUFF Dave Shaner A 15 year old boy in Missouri, Doug, was told he had leukemia. They tested him again and again... blood work...I.V.'s...vital statistics, and then more tests. Then the doctor told him all of the bad things that might happen to him with leukemia. He was in the pits of depression. One of his aunts ordered flowers from a St. Louis florist. To make absolutely certain that a good job was done, his aunt told the 22 year old clerk that the flowers were for her teenage nephew who had leukemia. When the flowers arrived at the hospital the next day, they had two notes on them. One from the aunt and the other from the 22 year old clerk at the flower shop. The clerks note simply said: 'Douglas, I took your order. I work at the florist. I had leukemia when I was seven years old, and I am 22 now. Good luck. My heart goes out to you.' Sincerely, Laura Doug was in a hospital filled with literally millions of dollars worth of sophisticated equipment and expertly trained personnel, but the thing that meant most to him was a note from an unknown clerk at the florist shop. Why? She really understood! She took time to convey hope and sympathy. Two lessons: 1.) No matter what our hurt, sin or problem...overcome, with God's help...then let's communicate hope and sympathy to those still troubled. We are uniquely qualified to counsel someone who is struggling with an obstacle when we have already overcome it. 2.) When we feel like 'saved sinners,' perhaps our personal message to the lost will carry, not condemnation, but hope. Adapted - Dan Cooper A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver. (Proverbs 25:11) Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. -1 Tim. 6:12

The Benevolence Ministry needs a few good women or men. We could use a person or a few people working together to help with the food pantry. Service opportunity would include; outdating old food items, keeping shelves stocked, preparing food boxes ahead of time, help run food drives when needed & possibly check with local stores for donations of current but dented/shelf dated goods. All activities can be done on your timing. This is a fantastic way to serve the Lord and the community. Please contact Scott Dehlbom 762-1029 or Ralph Crump 773-6945 for questions. The holiday season is in the air. New colors to see, new sounds, good food to taste, our loved ones to hug-- and aww yes-- the smell of new and old recipes. Ok, if you have not guessed by now, I have listed our senses. The K-kids are learning about this subject and will someday grow up and have a career and families of their own. You realize in the business of life what a blessing it is that God created us to have these five precious senses.Recently our very own Grandma Pat Riggs made a wonderful breakfast for the staff. I didn't share breakfast with my kids. However I did share how blessed I felt that I could see, smell, touch, hear and especially taste. Her love for CCS shines. Thank you Grandma Pat for your love for the K-kids. Robin Utter Coeur d'Alene Christian School 7th Annual Holiday Craft Fair Saturday, November 23, 2002 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Booths available.
