STUFF    Dave Shaner

It was great to be able to have Dan & Katherine Cooper with us last week for our Friendship Evangelism Seminar. Katherine has been invited back to speak at the Ladies Fall Fellowship next October. I know that many are already looking forward to her return. Tapes of the main sessions are available from the tape ministry. See Steve Taylor, Scott Dehlbom, or Paul Swaim if you would like to receive a set. They do a great job in running the sound, video, and recording for us at all of our events that take place here. Also a special thanks to the Fellowship Ministry and the Bible Study Groups for providing and cleaning up for meals last week. They were wonderful and a great time was had as we were able to spend a little more time together than usual.

As great as the seminar was, a huge question/challenge looms over each of us. What are you going to do with the information received? James, the Lord's brother, worded it like this, 'Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.' - James 1:22. We received many principles gleaned from God's Word. It is up to each of us individually to put them into practice. I am also reminded of what God said to the prophet, Jeremiah, 'The harvest is past, the summer has ended, and we are not saved.' Since my people are crushed, I am crushed; I mourn, and horror grips me. Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then is there no healing for the wound of my people?'- Jeremiah 8:20-22. We have Jesus Christ as the balm to take care of all of our sins. The doctor is in the house, the medication is readily available, and the cost is free. What is needed is for the sick to be brought in for treatment. Let's each make a determined faithful effort to target and pray for our friends that they may find healing of the soul.

Nothing good happens accidentally. Jesus Christ has asked us to be his vessels for taking the gospel to the world. Your world starts where you are right now. If any need help in leading a friend to Christ, don't hesitate to ask for help. That's what we are here for.

Have a Great Week!

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. -Ephesians 6:12

Deacons Budget Forms Due Today

All deacons and ministers your budget forms are due today. Please turn them in to Tim Frahm or the church office

Bible Class Teachers Banquet

We appreciate our Bible Class teachers very much, and will host a banquet in your honor at The Village Inn on Thursday evening, December 12th. We hope all who have taught in the last year, and their spouses, will be able to attend.

Bible Study Group Leaders

Be sure to be here each Sunday morning at 8 a.m. for a 20 minute meeting for prayer and encouragement. Successful spiritual direction is often found in a smaller setting especially as we probe God's Word together. These meetings are intended to help us stay focused and equip each of us to better be able to minister to the congregation's needs. If you would like to be a Bible Study Group Leader or desire for a Small Group study in your home on a weekly basis, you are invited to this meeting as well. For further information, please see Dave Shaner.

Special LTC Costume Party! Tonight from 5:30 - 7pm. Come dressed as a character from Matthew, and prepared to answer questions from Matthew 1-9.

Stephen Ministry Training Program

Our Stephen Ministers are almost trained and ready. Our Stephen Ministers will receive their Certificates before December 15. They await our referrals. In our congregation, the way you ask for a Stephen Minister for yourself or refer some one else is to contact the Referrals Coordinator. The Referral Coordinator is the Stephen Leader who handles assigning Stephen Ministers to care receivers. If you refer someone, please be sure to get his or her permission first. The Referrals Coordinator will evaluate the potential care receivers' needs and will assign a Stephen Minister if the person would benefit from one. Our Referrals Coordinator is Anna Crump. She may be reached at 773-6945 or place the name in her mail box.

Shepherd's Corner

Psalm 100 should be memorized by all Christians. Our praise is easily directed to God on the Lord's day, but what about the other days of the week. Do we live Psalm 100 every day? Our prayer is for each one of you that you will make every effort to thank God daily for His enduring love. -The Elders

'Come Before Winter' - November 15th - 17th!

This year's theme is - 'The Missing Piece' We will be leaving on the youth bus at 3:30pm, on Friday, Nov. 15th, and returning on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 17th. This is a spiritual retreat, NOT a party. We will have lots of fun, but go expecting / desiring to grow in your faith.

Teaching Thankfulness

Thankfulness is an important attitude. It is more than good manners. It brings joy and hope to life and helps us remember the feelings of others. However, it does not come naturally. It must be cultivated. The following are a few suggestions for teaching thankfulness from an article by Heidi Matson in Focus on the Family.

Modeling. As with any parenting issue, we must model the character we desire to see sprout in our kids. Tell them we are thankful for them, and let them hear us thank God for them. Often we communicate and model ungratefulness by saying negative things about the blessings we've been given. i.e. - 'I'm so tired of this old car,' 'This carpet is disgusting,' 'I hate my job, ''I can't stand my hair.' These attitudes will be copied by our children. They communicate discontent, which is the enemy of thankfulness.

Giving Freely.  not to be confused with giving a lot! Affluence is often a roadblock to gratefulness....creating a sense of entitlement, which in turn breeds selfishness. Giving freely means giving with an attitude of generosity. Kids need to see us giving generously...to them and to others. It is easy to feel thankful for a generous gift.

Please and Thank You Consistently model and expect the common courtesy of these gracious expressions. Less is sub-standard for anyone, and especially for Christians.

Waiting and Earning One of the best ways for kids to feel and learn to be thankful is to have to wait or earn things. Once again, having their every need and even wish anticipated and fulfilled causes selfishness. Don't cave in to the pressure to let them experience everything early. If always given what they think they deserve, they will not be thankful. Make them wait...for parties, make-up, hunting, hair coloring, earrings, dating. They will appreciate them more.

Retribution and Grace. Parents who shield their kids from the consequences of their actions do not teach them thankfulness. If a child breaks or loses something of someone else's, he should have to replace it. If he/she hurts someone, apology and kindness are appropriate. However, grace and forgiveness are also a part of gratitude. 'I'm sorry' and 'I forgive you' should be heard frequently in our homes. Retribution teaches responsibility; grace teaches gratefulness.

Exposure. Expose your kids to those who are less fortunate. When appropriate, model generosity toward them in front of your kids. Make opportunities for children to contribute to the needs of others. Teach them to give, and the purpose of giving to the church. Model generosity in what you give and in what you help them give. Teach them the joy of sharing.

Helping our children grow thankful hearts is a process that requires consistent attention, but it bears beautiful fruit.

CCS CORNER -School News

Every day is a day of Thanksgiving!

My birthday just happens to land on "Thanksgiving" this year....I am thankful to have another year to live and serve the Master. I am thankful for my relationship with God through Christ Jesus...I am thankful for a husband and children that are faithful and serving their Lord daily...I am thankful for "ten" lives that I have an opportunity to minister to. I share God's word and my life with them, Monday through Friday. The names of the first graders are: Holly, Haylee, Abby, Alex, Jeremy, Kyler, Cameron, Chuckie, Michael, and Ramius. Each one is very special. They all have special needs and talents. Please join with me and pray for these children and the other children and their families at C.C.S. Especially pray for Holly's baby sister...She needs surgery and has had two cancellations because of infection and coughing. Pray that we, as a church can show that we have an investment in His school, if not in time or money,...Let it be prayer! I know some of you are already praying and your prayers have been our blessing.

My prayer for you is that you can share in the joy that the children bring. They are a great blessing in my life! I can hardly wait to teach them something new or ask them what they are doing. This quarter's thematic unit is: "The Farm". They insist that spiders should be included and I guess I'll go along with that as long as they don't bring one in for "show and tell". Visit us sometime...We'd love to have you. - Teri DuPey

Calendar Change!

The date for the CCS Fall Festival dinner program has been changed to Monday, December 2, 6 p.m. at Coeur d'Alene High School. Join us for great food, great fellowship and great entertainment by our students.

Please note an update letter from Ivan & Sally Archer is on the missions bulletin board.

PARENTS.....just another reminder. Please help control your kids here at the church building. They have become much too rowdy and rambunctious. We have older members who are afraid of being run into, a child who was knocked down and another had a tooth chipped. It is very difficult for some parents to discipline their children while others allow their kids to run wild. Let's all work together to change this picture.
