Family News November 3, 2002 Short By STUFF Dave ShanerThis promises to be a great week as we are in the midst of our Friendship Evangelism Seminar. Dan and Katherine Cooper come to us from Pitman, New Jersey. The congregation that they work with have many similarities with ours. They are approximately the same size and share some of the same challenges as us. The lessons presented over the next few days will be very practical and will encourage you to be a better witness for Christ. These lessons are intended for the local church here but visitors would always be welcome. I would like to remind each person to be present at each session. There will be two bonus sessions Monday morning and Tuesday morning. On Monday morning, they will be speaking at a continental breakfast here at the church building at 6:30 am. They will be speaking to the men and women respectively on, 'What wives wish their husbands knew about women' and What husbands wish their wives knew about men.' Both Monday and Tuesday evenings, supper will be provided here for everyone. We hope this will relieve you of some of your home responsibilities to free up your time to be able to be here for the seminar. We appreciate the fellowship ministry for providing these meals. Be sure to come for both the food and just to be able to be together. Both Dan and Katherine are very excited to be here. Pray for them as they travel and pray that God will use them to his glory while they are here. The Lord had mandated that Christians make disciples for Him. Many people are apprehensive by the thought of having to conduct a Bible study with someone that is not already a Christian. Perhaps, we have made it too professional. Training is good, but most people come to the Lord because of a good friend. Even though our world has become smaller (in the sense of travel and communication), the distances people feel between one another has increased. Friendship is a skill itself that must be developed. Yet it is something that is natural and the most effective means of leading others to Christ. Ask the Lord of the harvest to 'Lead me to some soul today. Teach me Lord just what to say.' Keep your friends in your prayers that they might experience the greatest blessing of all, becoming a friend of the Lord. Have a Great Week! Jesus said to Him, 'Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.' - Luke 19:9 - 10

Africa Dear Friends, I'm sending this your way to let you know of a great opportunity for a personal worthwhile experience, a mission work that is of value, and is something which can be done by anyone just a bit handy. Roger needs to have others come once we leave. Our time here is just another month. Would someone consider this work? -Ivan Archer Mike's Memos 'Who Needs Church Anyway?'Do you need to go to church to be a Christian? Some brilliant person said, 'Going to church doesn't make you a Christian anymore than going to a garage makes you a car.' And that's true. We also know that the number of people going to church continues to shrink, while more and more people consider themselves to be 'spiritual' or 'religious'. There's something basically wrong with this picture. We know there is because scripture tells us that Jesus purchased the church with his own blood. There are vital reasons why churchgoing is a must, not an option. 1) Collective worship creates opportunities for connection with God. 2) Christianity is about relationship-building... with Jesus and the church, His body. 3) In worship, God is the audience, not us. 4) Being a Christian, and churchgoing, is about giving, not receiving. 5) We need others to help share our load. 6) It's in the church that we find mentors for our faith. 7) If the first Christians were a part of it, Jesus built it and died for it, and God knew I needed it, who am I to say it isn't necessary?!! Yes, churchgoing and Christianity are inseparable. You really can't have one without the other. God recognized our need, and sent Jesus who said, '....I will build my church.' It is an honor, a privilege and an obligation for everyone who wants to be a Christian to be a part of Christ's church. They have become much too rowdy and rambunctious. Last Wednesday night one was knocked down and another had a tooth chipped. It is very difficult for some parents to discipline their children while others allow their kids to run wild. Let's all work together to change this picture.CCS CORNER -School News It is already November, but it sure feels like January! I have a very busy, happy group of 15 in 2nd and 3rd graders.
