Family News October 13, 2002 Short By STUFF Dave ShanerLast week was a great day with one of our larger attendances of the year for the Lord's assembly service. Let's continue to build each other up and share our faith in Christ with our friends and neighbors. Growth comes both externally and internally. God is interested in numbers! We don't like to think of it that way, but several times in the book, of Acts, the writer refers to the fact that 'more and more numbers were coming to the Lord daily.' What started out as simple addition turned into multiplication as Acts 6 records that 'the number of disciples multiplied.' But God is not just interested in numbers for numbers sake. He wants everyone of those growth additions to grow in faith and in the Spirit of His son, Jesus Christ. As the body matures, the body builds itself up in love. Always be ready to put in a good for for Jesus. Always be ready to give an answer to why you believe what you do believe. Make it a point to build up the Lord's church here in the Coeur d'Alene area or wherever you happen to be. As you go into all the world preach the gospel. Remember that he who believes and is baptized will be saved. He who does not believe will be condemned. God has placed a precious jewel in our feeble hands. But the fact that God can work through me is a testimony to the greatness of God. When the world sees us as a community of believers united, intent on one purpose, loving one another, then the world will know that God has sent Jesus to be the one and only savior of the world. Pray every day. Start everyday off asking God to guide you and give you strength. He will encourage and make you able to stand firm in the faith in whatever circumstance you may be found. Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and He will give you understanding. I just want to say how much I appreciate Scott Rouse preaching in my absence this week. He is a great shepherd and shows a great deal of insight into the Scriptures. In order to pursue some additional training and education, I will be gone for 3 weeks per year in Memphis, Tennessee at the Harding Graduate School. Keep praying for God to use each of us and enable the ministry here at Dalton Gardens to flourish. Have a Great Week! But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. - 1 Peter 2:9
Guest Editorial: Dan & Katherine Cooper will be conducting a Friendship Evangelism Seminar for us on November 3-5. We have been viewing his videos during the adult Sunday Bible class this quarter. He will be a guest columnist for the next few weeks. I RAN IN THE RAIN ON MONDAY! When it rains, I do not run my four mile course. In fact, I don't run at all in the rain. (Maybe I'm a sissy!) Only twice in my life have I run in the rain. The first time I ran in the rain was several summers ago when a family from out-of-state was visiting us. The wife said to me, 'Dan, let's go run.' I said, 'It's raining!' In disbelief and shock she said, 'You don't run when it rains?' I replied honestly, 'No, I do not run in the rain, I'll tag along with you.' Macho Dan was not about to let a women run in the rain while he stayed dry at home! That was my first run in the rain. My second run in the rain was last Monday. It was a sad run. Even though I did my four miles in better than average time, I was sad at the end of the run. Sad, because on this day that same woman who had encouraged me to run in the rain years ago, was moving out of her house. She was leaving behind a beautiful house, a husband of over twenty years and several precious and impressionable children. The rain drops symbolized God's tears. God was crying, because another family was disintegrating. I cried, too. She was leaving behind decades of memories, a church family, a biological family, and dreams of the way life was going to be. Her husband was a key leader in a large southern church with hundreds of members. The church will wonder, 'Was it our fault?' Her children will question, What did we do wrong?' Hundreds will be impacted by this freshly broken home, both now and for generations to come. If even church leaders are not exempt from marital conflict, (and we are not) who will be an example? Who will set the standard? What motivates such a drastic decision? Selfishness? Or how bad must things have been? Unthinkable! Satan is toying with our families in the church right now. Today! He is particularly keen on playing with the families of elders, preachers and deacons. On my personal prayer list I have listed twelve marriages of friends and family that are in distress. Of those twelve, six Christian couples have actually separated. What hurt! What devastation! What pain! Satan wants your marriage! Will you fight for it? Nurture it! Feed it! Pray for it! Invest in it! Please, don't make God cry! I love you, - Dan Cooper Shepherd's Corner Last week we asked if you hugged your child today? This week we are asking if you have hugged your Bible class teacher today? Teachers are the ones who have made a commitment to teach a class, or Bible hour for a period of time. They committed themselves to preparing and studying for these classes, to present the lesson, to be early for class, to be willing to make adjustments, to encourage and love their students, and to serve God as they serve as a teacher. Teachers are servants of God who need, and should get special encouragement from all of us. Whether if they teach classes for our young children, our teens, or our adults it requires work, effort, and a lot of love. Becoming a teacher provides you with an excellent opportunity. An opportunity for you to grow within your relationship with God. An opportunity to grow and share your love. To attend class provides with an opportunity to grow with God. It also provides you with the opportunity to influence and encourage others to attend. It also encourages the teacher. Have you encouraged your teacher today? Have you hugged your teacher today? -The Elders 'A Spanish Fiesta' Senior Saints, you are invited to the annual 'Keenage Banquet' hosted by the Dalton Gardens Youth Group. We've talked about younger children, adolescents, and this week........ Six Tips For Parenting Teens (ages 15-18) Christian young people are constantly testing their faith to see if it works in the real world. Your consistent modeling of genuine faith is of utmost importance and your guidance is still necessary but it requires a different approach. Your 15-18 olds learn about God more from what they experience and from other mentors than from what you tell them. 1) Allow them to make increasingly more decisions for themselves. They will probably learn more from wrong decisions than from right ones. 2) Be a mentor to someone else's teenager. Pray that God will bring another adult to do the same for yours. Objectivity in dealing with another teenager will help you gain compassion and understanding for your own. 3) Allow them to experience consequences. Don't fix everything they mess up. 4) Focus on spiritual matters that have lasting impact. Picking the wrong battles will build walls instead of bridges. 5) Search for ways to encourage and praise them for their right choices. If you are always on their case, quick to point out their mistakes, they may dig in and rebel. 6) Offer grace, forgive, and forget. Offer grace, forgive and forget. Offer grace, forgive and forget. Astoria - Coat Give Away Jim & Diane Rude at the Astoria church are asking for donations of coats and blankets to provide warmth to those in need. There is a box in the lobby for your donations. For more information please see Betty Rude. CCS CORNER -School News My Time at Coeur d'Alene Christian School by Jennifer Rude 1982--I attended Coeur d'Alene Christian School as a 5th grader and continued as a student until 1986 when I was one of three 8th grade graduates along with Angie Storms and Eric Rude. (Oh, yeah. I also met a boy named Arrty.) 1996--I returned to CCS as a teacher. I taught 2nd grade, as well as a 1st/2nd combination class and music to all grades. I learned so much about everything those three years. I taught until 1999 when I was about to become a mommy. 2002--I am back at CCS in yet another role. As secretary/nurse/bookkeeper/etc. things are different. I know and love all the students as my own. Each face that comes through the office door represents one of God's precious gifts. Someone loves each of these children as much as I love my own. Also, I see the staff in a new light. They all work so hard to make the school and each of their students successful. I definitely have a new appreciation for CCS. Maybe it's because I'm older. Maybe it's because I'm a mom. Maybe it's because I sit behind the desk of someone who loved the school so dearly. Whatever it is, I'm glad to have the opportunity to serve CCS and it's families in this way. I have huge shoes to fill. I pray that God will continue to make my 'feet' (and heart) as big as Shari's. 'Dinner's On!!!' and I'm not talk'in about the soup kitchen! What are you doing on Wednesday night at 6:30 that's more important than feeding your soul? If it is humanly possible for you to come to the table, you should be there. We have classes for the 2 year olds through the adults. Jennifer & Arrty Rude share a very active hour with the 2 to 4 year olds. Marnelle & Andrew Marchese are doing an awesome job with the K - 2nd grade class. The Bible Challenge class and coaching groups for the 3rd - 12th grades is a wonderful study of the Gospel of Matthew. Some 37 kids and 12 adults are included in this class. Paul & Katrina Swaim are sharing an excellent study of 'Spiritual Warfare' with the college age group. Mike Swaim is teaching an adult, in-depth study of the book of Hebrews. And an excellent study of 'The Woman of Prayer' is shared by our ladies with several godly women teaching. Wednesday night from 6:30-7:30 can truly be a spiritual feast for the whole family. And if you want, for a small donation, you can come to the soup kitchen at 5:30 and feed your body as well. The table is spread every Wednesday. Why would you miss an awesome night like this??!!! Ladies Craft Night! Ladies bring your not yet started or not yet finished projects to the church building on Friday, October 25, from 7:00 p.m. 'til you get tired. Bring your supplies to use and share, plus snacks to keep us going. See you all there!
