Family News September 22, 2002 Short By STUFF Dave ShanerLast week's Mission Sunday was very encouraging to many people. The lessons were wonderful and your enthusiasm for reaching the lost with the gospel of Jesus was evident. Also the ethnic dinner, representing mission points throughout the world, that was provided by so many, was wonderful. Working in a foreign country is quite different than working in the United States. I was impressed as well at the booths representing the areas where the Dalton Gardens congregation is participating. Being able to see them all together helped me to appreciate the work that this church is doing worldwide. Some of the works that we are a part of include Togo, West Africa, Nigeria, Cape Town, South Africa, Barnaul, Siberia, Russia, Komsomolsk, Russia, British Columbia, Canada, Bonners Ferry, Priest River, Astoria, Oregon, and of course, our own Coeur d'Alene Christian School. Make all of our missionaries a regular part of your prayer life. Dave and Becky Reeves have now left the area and will be visiting other relatives while on furlough in the States. Be sure to keep them in your prayers as they get rested and energized to go back to Togo. Truly this is an area that is ripe for harvest. Ask the Lord of the harvest to send forth workers into these fields. - John 4:34-38. The Ladies Fall Fellowship is only two weeks away. Anna Crump and Diane Rude will be speaking on their experience both in the mission field and at home. This is always a wonderful event that blesses may lives. Men ... if you can help with the children or cleanup, please volunteer today instead of waiting to be asked. Ladies, if you have not registered yet, please do so today as well. Jerry Rushford, director of church relations at Pepperdine University, will speaking for our morning assembly, October 6. He will also be speaking to the men at a Bible class that morning, entitled, 'Christians on the Oregon Trail.' Jerry has the unique ability of sharing our heritage and digging to find the stories of how the church has grown in this area. Be sure to be here each week for Bible class both for your benefit and to encourage others. Have a Great Week! Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul. 1 Peter 2:11

Thanks to all those willing to provide the food and help that will be needed for this special day. Shepherd's Corner Last week you were encouraged to keep your focus on God. We looked at several examples of those who suffered consequences for taking their focus off God. Then we looked at an example of those who kept their focus on God. There are many other examples in the Old Testament. Have you found them? In Hebrews 12:1-3 we read that because we have these examples, we need to endure. To endure as we were running a race. The Christians this was written to understood that the races run in those days were marathons. These marathons required a lot of endurance. It also required the runner to keep their focus. We are encouraged to keep our focus by 'fixing our eyes on Jesus'. When we do this we then have the courage to not 'grow weary', and to not 'lose heart'. We have the courage and endurance to run that race for God. -The Elders ******Attention All Men****** Our Ladies Fall Fellowship is Saturday, October 5 from 9:00am till 3:00pm. It is an important time for our ladies to share with each other as they encourage, strengthen and help each other to grow as Christian sisters. You can do your part as the spiritual leader in your home to make a special time for the women in your life by: 1. Encouraging your wives and daughters to attend. 2. Making it possible with your help at home. 3. Contacting George Wuest or the Men's Ministry to help with setting-up, taking-down and cleaning-up. Ladies Craft Night! TEACHING CHILDREN TO WALK WITH GOD In the next few weeks I'd like to share some tips for parenting which came via another church bulletin, and offer some excellent advice. As parents, we have the privilege of guiding our children into the light and encouraging them to stay in the light. I Jn.1:7. This gradual process involves modeling, consistency, and creativity. YOUNG CHILDREN (2-9) In the early years, kids accept most of what parents tell them at face value. Consequently, parents are a child's most important connection to who God is. A bit later (ages 7-9) kids begin to need reasons for their beliefs. They need to know that their faith is reasonable and real. Hands-on parental participation is key. (next week - 5 tips for parenting young children). CCS CORNER -School News What a great week we had last week! We celebrated Grandparents Day with the K-3rd grades singing songs. Refreshments were enjoyed in the small auditorium, then grandparents were able to walk around and see their grandchild's classroom. Thank you to Kim Borsheim for arranging the refreshments! Also, Friday was 'Hero Day.' During Chapel assembly students talked about their favorite heroes. Steve Howard came in his military uniform and spoke to the school about what makes a hero. He also did a wonderful job singing, 'I'm Proud To Be An American.' Steve asked the kids what makes a hero. Some of the answers were, bravery, courage, honesty, strength, and love. The Book Fair is in full swing! We hope you will enjoy the book fair with your children or grandchildren. Each classroom will receive books from the sales. You may also donate books to a class if you would like. Thanks for your support!
