STUFF    Dave Shaner

We are very excited to be able to have Dave and Becky Reeves with us this week. We have been very fortunate to be able to be a part of their mission work in Togo, Africa. They have been instrumental in leading hundreds of men and women to the Lord over the past year. As a church, we support them financially. But there are other ways that we can be of encouragement to them. The first is prayer. The apostle, Paul, says in Colossians 4, to 'Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.' It doesn't matter if we are next door or half a world away, we can always be of benefit to others through prayer. I am sure that Dave and Becky, along with the entire Togo team, appreciates your prayers.

Also, we can send them letters, cards, care packages, etc. of encouragement. The Sisemore's, in Russia, stated that one of the things that they enjoyed the most was receiving American TV sitcoms, such as 'Home Improvement' or some good movies. Another way that you can help in many mission efforts is to be involved in World Bible School. Be sure to see the note from a WBS student. Wendell Broom reported at the 2002 Pepperdine lectures that there are more churches of Christ in Africa now than in the United States. Much of this has been accomplished through World Bible School. When I had the opportunity to teach in India, a lot of our work was visiting those with whom we had WBS lessons already ongoing. They were amazed that we showed up on their doorstep to talk to them further about the Lord and His kingdom. More good has been done through WBS correspondence than we will ever know about.

Of course, we also have a great mission right here in the Coeur d'Alene area. We are to go... and as we are going, wherever we go, we are to make disciples, baptizing them in the name of the Father, son, and the Holy Spirit. We are fortunate to be able to minister all over the world, but our greatest opportunities lie right here where we are. Be sure to put in a good word for Jesus this week.

Have a Great Week!

He said to them, 'Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.'

Mark 16:15-16

IT'S MISSION SUNDAY!

We've had a special emphasis on missions in today's worship. David & Becky Reeves, who work with the Kabiye People of Togo, Africa, have shared experiences and challenged us to be mission-minded. Being a disciple of Christ requires each of us to share the gospel with others....by sending missionaries, teaching World Bible School....teaching our neighbors........

Our Mission Sunday potluck lunch will feature ethnic foods to call attention to world missions. The meal will be followed by two afternoon sharing sessions with David & Becky.

A Note from Cape Town, South Africa

Dear brethren,

We are excited about having Ivan and Sally with us for several weeks. It is a joy to have them here working with us in the tremendous needs that we have in getting the campus together for the future.

It was certainly a joy to receive the gift that was sent from you for the Bibles for Africa project. This amount will print many Bibles for this continent. I want to thank you on behalf of our Lord who is seeking through us to take the gospel to this continent. It is certainly a joy to experience the sacrifices of those who are joining with us in preaching the gospel to 775,000,000 souls in this part of the Lord's vineyard.

Please keep us in your prayers as we labor here. Martha and I still remember with fond memories the time we spent with all of you two years ago.

In Christ,

Roger E. Dickson

Shepherd's Corner

Have you ever had one of those times when everything is going just wonderful? Then without warning something happens. Sometimes it appears to be a minor inconvenience. Sometimes it uproots your whole life. This has happened to man since the beginning of time. As we look into the Bible we will find that this sometimes happened when man took their focus off of God. We read this in stories of Adam and Eve, Cain and Able, David and Bathsheba to name a few.

Another story we can find is when all of Israel took their focus off of God. This story is found in Daniel 3, and is a story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. In this story they are being persecuted because they won't take their focus off of God. When they are threatened with death they continue to keep their focus on God. In verse 17 and 18 they tell the king that God will save them, and even if God doesn't they will still keep their focus on God.

How about you? Will you still keep your focus on God even when things don't go right?

Leadership Training for Christ

Registration night was outstanding, with many of last year's LTC'ers leading the program. Lots of interest was shown from kids and parents, with thirty-four 3rd - 12th grade students already signed up. Parents / kids, please don't miss out on this excellent spiritual training program. Several have already paid the $30 registration fee, and we'd like to encourage everyone to get this in ASAP.

We Need New Helpers!!!

With lots of babies on the way, the nursery will soon be crawling with little ones. The new helper rotation will begin in October. The idea is for each helper to only have to work two Sundays a year. If we get enough volunteers this is possible. As of now we need more helpers. Please let me know if you would like to help out our church families and allow these mothers and fathers a chance to worship God with the rest of us. Please call Alyssa Frahm at 665-5851.
