This week marks the anniversary of the September 11 tragedy in Washington, New York, and Pennsylvania. As Americans, we have all mourned what has happened and a renewed sense of patriotism has blanketed the country. On the surface, there seems to be a cultural clash between Christians and Moslems. Both groups claim to honor the teachings of Jesus, but the Moslems refuse to honor Jesus as the Son of God. The Islam faith believes in a political theocracy where the state is the kingdom of God. Even early Christians wanted Jesus to conquer the Romans and establish his rule n earth. Some 'Christians' today believe that Jesus will return to set up an earthly government and reign from Jerusalem. The scriptures do not teach this but the emphasis in the Bible is on the spiritual nature of the kingdom of God. Pilate asked Jesus if he were a king. Jesus responded that His kingdom was not of this world. He also said that the kingdom is within you. Paul goes on to say, even while the early Christians were subservient to the state, that we are citizens of heaven. We are to be model citizens and hold up the cross of Jesus. We are also taught to honor the king and show proper respect to those in positions of authority. Paul tells Timothy in I Timothy 2 that he wants men everywhere to pray for our governing powers. With the anniversary of 9-11 on Wednesday, the Dalton Church will have a special prayer breakfast to pray for our country. Our regular prayer breakfast normally on Tuesday will meet at this time. We meet at JB's restaurant at 6:30 a.m. Please come and join us for this special time.

It is great to have Dave and Becky Reeves along with their children home on a furlough from Togo, Africa. For those who may be unaware, Dave is the son of Earlene and Mike Reeves. They will be here next Sunday for our annual Mission Sunday. They will be sharing with us some of the tremendous success stories of how many souls have responded to the good news of Jesus in Africa. Wendell Broom reported at the Pepperdine lectures last year that the number of New Testament Christians in Africa now outnumbers those in the United States. But also realize that the continent of Africa has over 800,000 people, more than double the population of North America. There is much work to be done and I am thankful that Dave & Becky along with entire Togo team are making the sacrifice for the Lord to see the good news spread. We will also learn of the good works going on in South Africa where Ivan & Sally Archer are working with Roger & Martha Dickson distributing Bibles and sharing Christ. Be sure to be here next week. It will be a great time.

Have a Great Week!!

'Be still, and know that I am God. I am exalted among the nations, I am exalted in the earth! The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.'

Psalms 46:10-11

Shepherd's Corner

This last weekend was a great time at Farragut State Park. It is so enjoyable camping, and being with other Christians all day long. A special time to laugh together and play games. A time to share food, and camp life with each other. A time to share long conversations, to share your feelings and your thoughts. A time to worship, sing, and pray together. A special time in which we can forget the worries of the world, and enjoy each other. A special time to be a family.

This sounds like a little bit of heaven. Just a 'little' because heaven will be so much better. A special time because we will be there with God, with our brothers and sisters, and we will be there forever and not just the weekend. -The Elders

Mike's Memos

Who are we......really?

For centuries Christians have been identified through a variety of badges which vary from one culture to another. These 'signs' are statements about a person's or a groups' particular faith.

According to God's word, only one true and lasting sign identifies us as followers of Jesus through all times and cultures. The world around us recognizes the same sign that Jesus pointed to: our love: 'By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another' Jn.13:35. It is easy, most of the time, for us to share this love within the family, but it needs to spill over the walls of our churches and out into the community in significant ways if we are going to make any lasting impact. It is true....people don't necessarily remember what they are told of God's love, but they never forget what they have experienced of God's love.

I am thrilled to see our young people reaching out and touching the lives of so many of their friends. Others in the congregation are also reaching out to neighbors and friends with the love of Christ. I'm excited about the beginning of our 'Friendship Evangelism' class, and Dan Cooper's sharing that subject with us Nov. 3-5.

Only the best can happen as Christ's love becomes, more obviously, the identifying characteristic of this church family.

CCS CORNER -School News

School Daze by Dan DuPey

This has been a very exciting, yet busy week. Many of the students seem to have two focal points; one mind focused on class studies and the other on days gone by! The leaves are falling, the corn is ready (have you had some on the "cob"? m-m-m-m!), the gardens are drying up, the pumpkins are nearly ready, the apples are ripe, and students have NEW clothes! There is that smell of fresh pencils, erasers, and new jeans. Backpacks full of books and supplies sag against the students as they enter the halls. Talk of summer friends, swimming, riding bikes, skating, and picnics in the park is heard throughout the school.

Chapel has started, books have been opened, the pledge is recited....one nation under God....and the prayers begin. Coeur d'Alene Christian School has started the new year. Arrty Rude is the "new" 4-5 grade teacher. His class is nearly full. Praise God for that! The rest of the "team" is back.

Our former 4-5 grade teacher, Marcie Nelson, has moved to the Silver Valley. We will see her around often though! We appreciate all Marcie has done for the school over the past several years. We know she has grown.. like the rest of us...stronger spiritually because of it!! We are thankful to have Dave Shaner, again, for our Math teacher in Jr. High class! Our secretary, Shari Swaim, is taking time off to regain her strength, grasp some well deserved and needed rest, and will help from her command post, at home. Shari cheers us on, I think, from this post, as much as we do her, from our homes and school!

The engines are turning, the activities are rolling, and the school is moving. Get ready. You can serve. You can help out! You can join the mission God has given us at Coeur d'Alene Christian School. We still need one or two scholarships for students in need. Can you help? We will NOT turn down a student that desires to be in our school if possible. We have some excellent students this year! We thank Pat for her organization and implementation of the cleaning "system" and building up keep!!!!! We love this lady. And, welcome, Pat Riggs, our new school board member!

Get ready for Oct. 17th! We will be having a spaghetti dinner and classroom performances at Coeur d'Alene High School auditorium. Please plan to attend! We are excited about this! We will be able to use the new remodeled auditorium! Helpers needed! Are you available to volunteer. Again, can you serve? God has given us a beautiful opportunity right here on site to CHANGE lives. You can be a part of that! There are many areas of need if you can volunteer.. (Reading, classroom helpers, tutoring, cooks, PE coach, etc.!!!) Remember, Grandparents Day is Monday! Yes, that is the day after today. Join us for Chapel at 8:45 a.m. have some refreshments, and visit the school! Join us any time!

Dear brethren,

We are excited about having Ivan and Sally with us for several weeks. It is a joy to have them here working with us in the tremendous needs that we have in getting the campus together for the future.

It was certainly a joy to receive the gift that was sent from you for the Bibles for Africa project. This amount will print many Bibles for this continent. I want to thank you on behalf of our Lord who is seeking through us to take the gospel to this continent. It is certainly a joy to experience the sacrifices of those who are joining with us in preaching the gospel to 775,000,000 souls in this part of the Lord's vineyard.

Please keep us in your prayers as we labor here. Martha and I still remember with fond memories the time we spent with all of you two years ago.

In Christ,

Roger E. Dickson

For Africa International Missions

We Need New Helpers!!!

With lots of babies on the way, the nursery will soon be crawling with little ones. The new helper rotation will begin in October. The idea is for each helper to only have to work two Sundays a year. If we get enough volunteers this is possible. As of now we need more helpers. Please let me know if you would like to help out our church families and allow these mothers and fathers a chance to worship God with the rest of us. Alyssa Frahm 665-5851.
