Family News September 1, 2002 Short By STUFF Dave Shaner A special bouquet of roses goes out to George & Joanna Wuest and the rest of the Fellowship Ministry for their work in putting the annual Farragut Congregational Campout together. As of this writing it is still going on, but it is always good when brothers and sisters in Christ spend time together. Also a special thank you goes to Stan Howerton for preaching at the a.m. service at Farragut. For those who have not been out to the campsite this year, there is still time for you to join us (assuming that you are reading this early enough). Everyone needs to remember that there will be an evening assembly service at the campsite tonight. The normal Bible Study Groups will not be meeting tonight in lieu of this service. Come out early and spend time with the family. Hot dogs and Hamburgers will be served at 5 p.m. with the service starting around 6:30 p.m. Bring a side dish and a friend to join you. The teenage ministry will be leading the devotional thoughts for the evening service.Sometimes, it takes an outsider to help you realize how blessed we really are. The other day, a friend that I had gotten to meet through the Coeur d'Alene Christian School was telling me what a blessing the Christian School was and what a great church we had here. Then he started detailing many of the things that he felt that we had going for us. He named several people who had been a great blessing to him and his family. It is so easy to take people and what they do for the Lord for granted. For example, Pat Irmer has made all the arrangements to always make sure the Lord's Supper is prepared. Teen Pearson has been making the bread for the Lord's Supper for years. We don't have to worry about it because it is always done. We have become used to their reliability. Arrty Rude is doing a wonderful job in helping to organizing the educational program of the church. Jerry Riggs mows, waters, and fertilizes the lawn along with a multitude of other physical projects. Claudia Moberg has taught the 2-3 year old class for eons. Russ Allen and Margie Waddell have become fixtures in organizing the weekly Prayer Breakfast. The Christian School has been a symbol of God for so many people. We are so blessed. Look for someone to lift up and encourage. Let's not take people for granted but give honor to whom honor is due. - Romans 13:7. HAVE A GREAT WEEK!!! Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. - Ephesians 6:13
Tonight! - Farragut State Park Spend the afternoon: horseshoes, swimming, singing, food, fellowship Dinner is served at 5 p.m. Hamburgers and Hotdogs will be supplied. Follow the highway into the park. Get a parking pass at the gate if you do not have one already and proceed to Thimbleberry Campsite which is approximately 1/2 mile on the left. Bring a Friend! MISSION SUNDAY SEPT 15th Plan for a special worship experience on Mission Sunday. David & Becky Reeves will be here to share their work with the Kabiye People of Togo, Africa. The theme is 'You Are the Light of the World' - Matthew 5:14a. Mark your calendars and plan to share in the blessing of the day with your sisters. Attention all Committee Heads and Helpers! Our final meeting for our Ladies Fall Fellowship will be on Sunday, September 8th at 3:30 p.m. here at the building. This will be a very important meeting as we pull everything together, make sure we haven't forgotten anything, and that everyone has the help they need. The Committee Heads need to report on their plans and progress. We need you all there as we do the final planning. If you haven't signed up to help or need more information, see Jean Grow or Mary Petersen. Tuesday, September 10th @ Loretta Robinson's house, we will have a celebration of Christine Robinson's going to Graduate School & celebrate Marci's new adventures. Any questions, call Loretta Robinson or Joanna Wuest. Shepherd's Corner - GuestWhat is involved in being a shepherd? The elders here at Dalton Gardens spend countless hours each week ministering to the flock which God has entrusted to their care. Many of them teach Bible classes publicly. All of them teach in home settings. They often study with new Christians or teach the gospel to one who is thinking of becoming a Christian. They go out every Tuesday evening for the purpose of study, prayer and/or encouragement. Several of them teach a Bible Study Group throughout the week. They often attend the staff meeting every Tuesday morning. They meet every Wednesday evening, normally until 10 p.m. to discuss church business. Some of them will be meeting every Monday evening for Stephen Ministry training. If someone has a special need requiring an immediate visit, they change their schedule to meet with them. It takes a special man to be a shepherd. Despite all the time requirements, they must have the heart for ministry and a special heart for people. They must be responsive to the dictates of God and be able to encourage and/or refute others using sound doctrine. Be sure to keep your shepherds in your prayers. I know that they are constantly praying for you. They need your encouragement and prayers as much as each of us need theirs. Education - Change of Plans!! We have put off starting the new quarter just for you!! Actually, it was because of so many being at Family Camp last weekend. But it gives everyone a perfect chance to get started with the first class session of the fall Bible Class quarter which begins Sunday, Sept. 8th, and Wed. the 11th, with classes for everyone. Please consider the importance of Bible class study for you and your children. I know it takes extra effort, but it also sets a higher spiritual standard and obviously places you in a setting to learn more of God's word. It also strengthens the family, among other things. If you haven't consistently attended Bible class, next Sunday is an excellent time to begin. We pray that you will. Here is a note from Paula: 'David Honeycutt is drifting in and out of Coma. He is not doing well and running a fever. Jerry and Kay (mom and Dad) would like to move him to Grand Junction Colorado as it is only an 1 1/2 hours from home versus 6 hours from home. David has no insurance and Jerry and Kay will be assuming all of David's expenses. There is an account in Craig, CO set up to help with the families expenses. If you or anyone you know would like to donate anything for the incurring expenses, it will be greatly appreciated. Please continue to pray for the family....Doctors say it can take up to a year for David to recover, they still have a long road in front of them. Thank you for everything. - Paula Morris' The address of the bank is: Bank of Colorado Correction The ministry lists that were distributed last week should have listed Ray Rayburn as director of the Prayer Breakfast and Kim Frisk should be listed as the director of the Soup Kitchen. Mike's Memos LTC Registration next Sunday, Sept. 8th!! For all 3rd - 12th grade kids I always get really excited when it is time to begin our Leadership Training for Christ program. Every year it gets better. Also every year we have some misunderstandings about it. I suppose that is inevitable, but one of our elders suggested that I write a bulletin article titled......Myths about LTC ....so....Myth #1 It is an exclusive group. It is the prayer of the elders and yours truly that every 3rd through 12th grade student in this congregation, plus their friends, would take advantage of the opportunities for spiritual growth found in LTC. It is a program for every level. Myth #2 Everyone is expected to go to the Phoenix Convention. It's understood from the beginning that everyone will not be able to go to Phoenix for any number of reasons. Granted, it would be wonderful if each LTC member could be a part of the convention experience, but knowing that is not realistic, we try to keep it from becoming the focus. We constantly emphasize that the learning experience is most important. Phoenix is the fantasy-land pot of gold which is fun but short-lived. The development of strong, positive Christian character and leadership skills is the beautiful rainbow. Myth #3 It's too expensive; it's only for the rich. Every effort will be made to make it possible for any student to be in LTC,...and go to Phoenix, if they really want to. Several have already started doing odd jobs and fund-raisers. And, our church family is always very supportive. Planning ahead is the key. Myth #4 It's too hard. It is hard, but only if you are not willing to attend consistently and keep up with your part. Like any worthwhile learning experience, LTC requires commitment and work, but we have an awesome leaders team who will help with every task. Some basic events are required, but every student is allowed to choose how many additional events he will participate in. A Note from Cape Town, South Africa Hi Everyone, Just wanted to let you know we arrived today in Cape Town. Other than being late leaving Atlanta by an hour, all has gone well. It is still like late winter here with low 50's and wind gusting up to 20 mph. - Sally & Ivan Sally and Ivan are working with the church along with Roger & Martha Dickson in Cape Town, South Africa, sending out Bible lessons all over the continent. They will be there for the next 3 months. Be sure to keep them in your prayers. Thank You Found one canister vacuum in Pat's trunk! CCS CORNER -School News Blessing Your Child by Dan DuPey It is time to send the children off to school again! The blessings arrive! As Christians we are blessed by what God has given us! He has given us the beauty of the world to live in and appreciate. He has given us a family to work with, to share with, and to "be excited" with. He has given us His son to emulate and follow as we walk through life. When we are discouraged. we can go to him! When we are confused. we can turn to Him! When we are excited. we can remember Him! When we need that special direction or focus. we can turn to Jesus! Paul has said it all, "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength!" - Philippians 4:13 Can we? Will we? God has given us His children for a brief period of time. They are so much like a vapor that was...and is now gone! What are we doing with this precious amount of time that we have with our children? It is still a sad statistic that fathers spend only 6 minutes per day in conversation with their children! We would hope that the church has a much higher number than that! We need to remember that the time we spend with our children must be quality "enjoyment" memories for them as well as focused instruction. The Christian School is like a "family" for our students as we grow to know them and care for them through the years. We have so many, many great memories of our students as they pass on through the various grades! God has blessed us with His children to impress upon them His daily Love! This is something we should follow whether it is sitting at home, traveling, at bedtime, or during a meal. This is emphasized in Deuteronomy 6:7. Let's admit when we are wrong. Let's project a great marriage as our love for our spouse grows and for being an example to our children. Let's always express our love to them with praise and encouragement. Ask any of us that no longer have all of our children at home how fast the time goes by. Let's make sure we live a life with our children that will bring words of praise from God! "Well done good and faithful servant!" Remember the blessings our children bring....and remember how quickly they leave! Sympathy Over the years, many of you have come to know Stanley Shipp. He has trained many preachers of the Word and taught many about the true nature of servanthood. Stanley was killed in an automobile accident last Monday, August 26 in San Antonio, Texas. His wife, Marie, suffered several broken ribs but is improving. The funeral was Saturday. If you wish to make any donations in his honor, you may make them to the Haitian Christian Foundation, at 425 Cypress Ave., Abilene, TX 79601. Thank Yous Thank you for your calls, cards, visits and most of all your prayers. The doctors tell me the cancer is gone. Praise God! -Virginia FilbeckThank you for your love and your prayers. -Jan Almond & Family Thank you all immensely for your contribution last week. You have all really made a difference. Please keep me in your prayers and thanks again for your support. -Jenny Dupey GRADUATIONS Around the World Around the world, on five continents, students in branch schools of Sunset International Bible Institute proudly made the transition this spring and summer from student to graduate. 126 graduates completed their studies in Ethiopia, Ukraine, Greece, Russia, Ecuador, Mexico and Miami, Florida. Each one of us in Dalton Gardens have an involvement and investment in this work through the Barnaul, Russia branch of the Barnaul Bible Institute. Eleven Barnaul students received their diplomas and are now spreading the gospel and church planting throughout that region and beyond to Islands off the coast of Japan. In addition, three of the Russian instructors have now completed their studies in Lubbock and have returned to teaching in Barnaul. We can rejoice that great works are being done for the Lord in respective nations of all the graduates. ************************************* Target 1% When you use your Target Guest Card, 1% of your purchases will be given to CCS.
