Family News August 25, 2002 Short By STUFF Dave Shaner This Friday starts our annual Farragut Family church campout. If you have never been to this, you have truly missed out on some exciting fellowship, fun, games, bonfires, devotionals, and good food. For those who will be staying at the campsite next Sunday, Stan Howerton will be preaching for a special church service held on the grounds. We will continue to have our regular services in town. It doesn't matter which one you go to, but for those involved in Bible class teaching, remember that the regular Bible classes will go on as scheduled. There will also be a special Sunday evening service at the campsite for the entire congregation even if you are not planning on camping out. Also the Bible Study Groups that normally meet on Sunday evenings will not be meeting, but instead are encouraged to come out for the Farragut service. George & Joanna Wuest, who are directing the campout, have some special events scheduled over the weekend. Even if you only come out for the day, you are sure to have a wonderful time with your brothers and sisters. The Dalton Church has already had more baptisms thus far this year than we had throughout all of 2001. As the apostle Paul said to the Corinthians, I would like to encourage all of us to "excel still more." If we work as a team, we can reach many more. The job of spreading the gospel is the responsibility of every disciple of Christ. Not everyone is a teacher, but everyone can reach someone that only you can reach. Some of us plant seed for the Lord while others water that seed. If we are faithful in sowing, God will be faithful in causing that seed to grow. Whether you are teaching an evangelistic Bible study, visiting guests to our assemblies, baking bread for visitors, making telephone calls, teaching Bible classes at church, etc. we are all putting in a good word for Jesus. Whatever you do, to help the kingdom of God to grow, do it on purpose. Don't just let things happen, but make things happen. God will help you and He will bless you for your efforts. Let's look at the end of this year, and be able to praise God for the work that he did through each of us working together for the common goal of winning the lost to Christ. HAVE A GREAT WEEK!!!
Proverbs 68:6 'God sets the lonely in families.' Don't be lonely, come to......... Family Camp August 30-September 2 at Farragut State Park for all kinds of fun, fellowship, and activities. The cost is only $2 per person per night. So make your plans to be there and bring your friends. For more information, contact George Wuest 772-6247. Education - Change of Plans!!The fall Bible Class quarter will begin Sunday, Sept. 1st, and Wed. the 4th, with classes for everyone as listed below. We are so appreciative of our teachers and teacher helpers. We are still excited about the 'Boundaries' class we had scheduled for this fall, but have decided to postpone it's beginning until the winter quarter. Another change will be the time for our class on Friendship Evangelism. This class will be taught in preparation for our meeting with Dan Cooper November 3-5. Dan is the author of the Friendship Evangelism material, and will be helping us with our outreach efforts. We hope to involve the whole congregation, so the class will meet on Sunday mornings rather than Wednesday night. Plan now to be here at 9am every Sunday for Bible Class, and start thinking of friends you would like to bring to Jesus. New Quarter Bible Class Schedule Please consider the importance of Bible class study for you and your children. I know it takes extra effort, but it also sets a higher spiritual standard and obviously places you in a setting to learn more of God's word. It also strengthens the family, among other things. Surely these benefits are worth the effort required. If you haven't been consistently attending Bible class, next Sunday is an excellent time to begin. We pray that you will. Lg. Aud. Shepherd's Corner There are over 27 ministries at Dalton Gardens to help meet the needs of the congregation. Let me tell you more about the Stephens Ministry that is dedicated for allowing Christ to care for people through people. Stephen ministers are care givers to the care receivers but always God GIVES THE CURE. The Stephen ministers logo shows a broken person standing behind the cross. We are all broken people standing at one time away from the cross of Christ until we allowed the blood of Christ to redeem us in our commitment to obeying the gospel through baptism. Yet STILL the brokenness does intermittently occur with each one of us in different times in our life. In such times we need a caregiver to listen, comfort, show compassion, to administer to our needs, in a confidential manner. Stephen ministers find a need and meet it. They find a wound and let God heal it. These needs include but are not limited to the hospitalized, the terminally ill, people who move into or out of our community, those grieving a death or serious loss, the homebound and institutionalized, those with a job crisis, the aging and elderly facing life transitions, spiritual crisis and manifold other needs to numerous to mention all. Stephen ministry is a confidential ministry: those receiving care can be sure that their identity and what goes on in the caring relationship will remain private. 'Bear one another's burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ.' Gal. 6:2 - Ralph Crump for the Elders GRADUATIONS Around the WorldAround the world, on five continents, students in branch schools of Sunset International Bible Institute proudly made the transition this spring and summer from student to graduate. 126 graduates completed their studies in Ethiopia, Ukraine, Greece, Russia, Ecuador, Mexico and Miami, Florida. Each one of us in Dalton Gardens have an involvement and investment in this work through the Barnaul, Russia branch of the Barnaul Bible Institute. Eleven Barnaul students received their diplomas and are now spreading the gospel and church planting throughout that region and beyond to Islands off the coast of Japan. In addition, three of the Russian instructors have now completed their studies in Lubbock and have returned to teaching in Barnaul. We can rejoice that great works are being done for the Lord in respective nations of all the graduates. Please keep me in your prayers and thanks again for your support. -Jenny Dupey Mike's Memos Relational Youth Ministry I recently read an article by James White, a youth minister of 19 years with whom I share the same philosophy of youth ministry. He says.......Relational is the word that best describes it. I have seen the positive impact that authentic relationships can have on the lives of junior and senior high school students. I have also seen the effects that negative, counterfeit relationships produce. We must help our kids develop the right kind of relationships, beginning with their relationship with the Lord. Most teens and pre-teens really want to be accepted in a group, and will go to great lengths to make that happen. If they are unable to develop good relationships, they will turn to the negative ones that are so readily available, and which are often very destructive. The best relationships are built around a genuine relationship with God, mutual love and respect, trust, good communication, and encouragement and accountability. Experience shows these things happening best where there is unswerving commitment to a strong church family and a strong youth group. In churches we often make the mistake of focusing on big events...concerts, lock-ins, youth rallies, which are good, but real relationships are built on weekly exercise of spiritual disciplines.....Bible study, prayer, fellowship, service. Parents sometimes lose sight of what should be the real goal for their child. While they may be good in and of themselves, excelling at sports, academics, or having a job, do not produce spiritual relationships. They must not become priorities over spiritual development. Too many times I have seen teens who really wanted to be active in Youth Group, but they 'had to study, or 'had to work' or 'had a game'.....parents not encouraging/ insisting on church involvement. Ironically, these same parents would be in my office a few years later wondering why their child was in trouble, or didn't want to come to church anymore. The primary goal of parents should be to rear their children to be Christians. Doing that requires three basic things: teaching Christianity, modeling Christianity, and providing all kinds of growth opportunities .....opportunities to develop genuine Christian relationships within the body of Christ. Thanks, James Senior Overnighter to Sandpoint The Senior Saints will leave at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27 to shop and have dinner in Sandpoint. CCS CORNER -School News God is In Control by Dan DuPeyWhere is your family with God? Are you focused on Him (God) as much as He is focused on you? As a family, we need to focus and plan everything we do around Him...and what He would want us to do. Our daughter, Jennifer, recently told us, "At this point in my life, I am focused on what God wants me to do!" I thought that was great. College years often bring many exposures, stresses, and outer influences for our young people. It is imperative that they lean on God to grow with Him and not fall behind during these years. As a family, we need to seek God's direction in all that we do. As a Church it is as important. It is so important to have leaders that place this as a priority for His "Sheep". The Christian school does likewise. We are a second family to so many students and parents. We put God first as He guides us through each day. The prayers from so many have helped us in many ways. God worked with one family, Adam and Eve, early on. He quickly moves on through generations to the Flood. He began all over again with Noah and his family. With Abraham, God begins again. God begins a program that includes all of us clear back with Abram, "exalted father", whose name is changed to Abraham, "Father of many". God told Abraham that He "WILL DO" many things through him for His people! -"I WILL make you a great nation!" - "I WILL Bless you!" - "I WILL make your name great!" - "I WILL bless those who bless you. "God did what He said he would do. We are not always aware of God's work! How are we being blessed by God? We only need to stop and look. When we remember to put Him first in our lives as we prioritize, our blessings will multiply! ************************************* September Dates: Target 1% When you use your Target Guest Card, 1% of your purchases will be given to CCS.
