STUFF    Dave Shaner

We had a terrific camp session this past week. If you have never had the opportunity to visit Camp Prince's Pine, take a Saturday and venture there. It is a very beautiful place that the Lord has provided for us to be drawn closer to him. We ended up with about 70 Junior High campers from throughout the Northwest. We had staff workers from the Tri-Cities, Spokane, Wenatchee, and Idaho. Many of the staff were from Dalton Gardens, including Jo Allen, Anna Crump, Teri DuPey, Adrienne Morse, Marci Nelson, and Joanna Wuest. We thank you for your time, talent, and love for the campers, and especially your love for the Lord.

I will be in Southern California for most of this week delivering my two oldest children to college. Actually one will be flying from there to Abilene. The sands of time go by so quickly. We may not think so when they are small, but treasure the years you have with them now. As parents, we only have a small window to be with them and hopefully to have imparted some godly values that will last in them. Being a parent is very challenging at times, but nothing is more rewarding.

Thank you for your response you have given me in regards to our sermon series on Spiritual Warfare. We are in the midst of a war where the stakes are indeed very high and our enemy is strong. Satan may be stronger than us, but remember the words of the apostle John, 'You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.' - I John 4:4. Make no mistake about it, the war has already been won. Satan is allowed to keep fighting, but He is like a wounded animal, seeking to take somebody down with Him. Each person must 'Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. ' - Ephesians 6:11. Satan is a schemer and a deceiver. In reality, he has no defense nor can he defeat those who are prepared with the armor of Christ. Remember, the battle belongs to the Lord.

Have a Great Week!

More Great News From Camp!!!

After bulletin printing, Austin Shaner was baptized at Teen Camp last Friday night, Aug. 10th. There have been three baptized at Jr. Camp this past week, including Sarah Ward, Clara's granddaughter, from here at Dalton. We are very proud of these two young people. They will both be in 9th grade this year. Be sure to congratulate them and help them to become actively involved in the church family.

Shepherd's Corner

Jesus at twelve stated 'I must be about my Father's business' Luke 2:49 KJV.

Peter inspires us in 1 Peter 2:21 stating 'Christ left us an example that we should follow His steps'

The poet, Annie Johnson Flint, shows how we can be an excellent example as a living sacrifice in her poem 'Jesus Christ -- And We'

'Christ has no hands but our hands
To do His work today:
He has no feet but our feet

To lead men in His way;
He has no tongue but our tongues
To tell men how He died;
He has no help but our help
To bring them to His side.
We are the only Bible
The careless world will read;
We are the sinner's Gospel,
We are the scoffer's creed;
We are the Lord's last message
Written in word and deed.'

May her words challenge us to faithfulness as God challenges us to being 'steadfast, unmovable, always giving yourselves to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain'

1 Cor. 15:58 NIV.

Mission to China and Japan

Jenny Dupey will be leaving in August for the Pac-Rim countries. This is for the Cascade College semester mission/academic program. Jenny still needs help funding this program. For information you may contact her at 666-0228 or make a check payable to Cascade College towards Jenny's account. Thank you for those who have already contributed toward this.

Foster Care Volunteers Needed

The State Department of Health and Welfare has asked us if anyone here would be interested in being foster parents. I fact, right now we have a special need for a member of this congregation to take a teenage boy who is a part of our youth group into their home. It is a great responsibility and requires sharing your time and love. Most, if not all, of the financial obligations would be provided for by the state. One of the officers recently said, 'Your church is the best thing that this kid has going for him.' There is some red tape involved in order to be approved, but if you are interested, we would like to set up a meeting for all that are interested in an informational session. There are periodic needs to place children of all ages into homes. If you would be interested in more information, please see one of the elders or any who are in the church office. Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

In a recent bulletin I read the following which I can relate to and would like to share with you.....

Having been raised on a farm, I frequently think about Galatians 6:7, 'Do not be deceived, God is not mocked: for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.' I come into contact with many people who think they can either sow their wild oats and then pray for a crop failure, or not sow anything and then reap a bumper harvest. In both cases, such wishful thinking is unlikely to produce the desired results.

A lot of today's problems could be avoided if people would practice the three P's: Preparation, Perspiration, and Patience. Too many people want what somebody else has without being willing to pay the price the other person has paid to get it. Being productive in your Christian walk will not happen unless you sow the right seed, prepare, and are willing to work patiently. Let's sow good seed, and work hard at cultivating the crop....for the Lord.

Education

The fall Bible Class quarter will begin in two weeks with classes for everyone including the second half of Romans with Dave Shaner and a new adult class taught by Arrty Rude titled: Boundaries: When To Say Yes: When To Say No To Take Control Of Your Life by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend. We would like some idea about how many books to order, so if you think you would like to be in this new class, please sign the sheet on the kiosk.

A special Wednesday night series will begin on Sept. 4th titled Friendship Evangelism. This class will be taught in preparation for our meeting with Dan Cooper, the author of the Friendship Evangelism material, November 3-5.

Bible for Africa Update

Funds have been donated, as of this past Wednesday, in an amount of $454.00. This will provide Bibles to 150 African families. As earlier stated, Bibles are shared in that part of the world. Thus, many persons will benefit from the generous hearts of this congregation. The Archers will be taking these funds with them on their mission trip. They will be leaving next Sunday afternoon. There is still time to get your donation to them should you wish to participate in this work for the Lord.

CCS CORNER -School News

The Mission is at Home Too by Dan DuPey

As Teri and I prepare to "escort" Jennifer to Portland, and then to the airport for her flight to Oklahoma, many things cross our minds! The "Mission". She is excited and ready to share her "foundation"! She is excited about telling others about Christ and what He has meant in her life and what it can mean in theirs! She has built a solid foundation over the years. Strong parents and grand-parents in their love for the Lord....Christian Schools.....Harding University

..Cascade College....Camps.. Youth Groups....and The Church. We are so thankful for your kind hearts and help in Jennifer's fund-raising regarding this trip!

We have NEVER been to China, Japan or Australia! We are somewhat ambivalent about sending our little girl (21 now!) away to these countries across the Pacific. But, on the other hand, it is very exciting. It is an opportunity for Jennifer to share Christ with those who have not known. But, this also reminds us that the mission needs are not exclusive to these other "worlds". We are working "missions" every day if we are active in God's Church. We are always fulfilling needs that are everywhere around us each day. We are uplifting tired spirits...We are giving Hope to the discouraged.....Food for the Hungry...and Happiness to those who are discouraged if we are working in God's Church!

It is GOOD to see a smiling face. It is GOOD in the eyes of God to see us sharing this HOPE with others. To serve is to do God's will! - to make a child smile - to teach - to live by example - to emulate Christ- to be humble. To serve is exciting as it uplifts the server as much as those being served. It is work that God has given us to make us more like HIM!

Remember the children. As we plan and prepare each new generation that God has given us, let us all unite and build that strong foundation that they need to be confident and ready to teach some day about Christ! Let us all serve! "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." !!!!!! Math 19:14

Church...........Teri and I thank-you for your support of Jennifer!!!!

GRADUATIONS Around the World

Around the world, on five continents, students in branch schools of Sunset International Bible Institute proudly made the transition this spring and summer from student to graduate. 126 graduates completed their studies in Ethiopia, Ukraine, Greece, Russia, Ecuador, Mexico and Miami, Florida. Each one of us in Dalton Gardens have an involvement and investment in this work through the Barnaul, Russia branch of the Barnaul Bible Institute.

Eleven Barnaul students received their diplomas and are now spreading the gospel and church planting throughout that region and beyond to Islands off the coast of Japan. In addition, three of the Russian instructors have now completed their studies in Lubbock and have returned to teaching in Barnaul. We can rejoice that great works are being done for the Lord in respective nations of all the graduates.
