STUFF    Dave Shaner

Our annual campout at Farragut is closer than you realize. Make your plans to be a part of this great experience. See the accompanying article for details.

Thank you so much for the response so many of you showed in helping to deliver information packets to each of our VBS parents. All of the visits were received very positively and a lot of good was done in the community. A special thank you as well to those who made bread as part of the packets that was delivered. The bread was a welcoming gift, but all of the VBS teachers delivered the bread of life. Together, we were able to plant a lot of seed for God's kingdom.

Jesus' mandate for us shortly before He ascended back into heaven was to 'Go and make disciples baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit.' - Matthew 28:19. This wasn't just for the apostles as He went on to tell them to teach those disciples to teach everything He had just commanded. The first part of this instruction is to 'Go.' Literally, the text may be rendered, 'As you go.' In other words, as we go into all the world, wherever and however that is accomplished, we are to teach the gospel message. We are to be the right kind of ambassadors, have the right message, follow the instruction, but the 'going' starts with us. People are thirsting for God, but God is asking us to go to them, not wait for them to come to us. He doesn't ask us to be brilliant or eloquent, but to simply plant and water the seed of the Word of God. Expecting a harvest of souls is similar to expecting a harvest of any other kind of crop. The more we sow and water, the more we can expect good things to happen, because God is the one that causes that seed to grow. - I Corinthians 3:6. God is faithful. You can always count on God doing His part. He has simply asked us to be His fellow workers in getting the word out.

I will be directing the Junior camp session this week at Camp Prince's Pine. Several from Dalton Gardens are a part of the staff. Be sure to keep the campers and staff in your prayers.

Have a Great Week!

'For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the twelve. I Cor. 15:3 - 4

Foster Care Volunteers Needed

The State Department of Health and Welfare has asked us if the church here has anybody that would be interested in being foster parents. I fact, we have right now a special need for a member of this congregation to take a teenage boy into their home for about two years. He is currently a part of our youth group. It is a great responsibility and requires sharing your time and love. Most, if not all, of the financial obligations would be provided for by the state. One of the officers recently said, 'Your church is the best thing that this kid has going for him.' There is some red tape involved in order to be approved, but if you are interested, we would like to set up a meeting for all that are interested in an informational session. They have periodic needs to place children of all ages into homes. If you would be interested in more information, please see one of the elders or any who are in the church office. Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

- James 1:27

Shepherd's Corner

We cannot read the story of the life of Jesus without coming to appreciate the fact that He was one of the busiest of men. The thought of Jesus as a worker, William George Tarrant put in one of the most beautiful and challenging of hymns.

My Master was a worker
With daily work to do,
And he who would be like Him
Must be a worker too.
Then welcome honest labor's fate
For where there is a worker,
The Master's friend is there.
My Master was a helper,
The woes of life He knew,
And he who would be like Him,
Must be a helper too.
The burden will grow lighter,
If each will take a share,
And where there is a helper
The Master's friend is there.

Let us all be friends of Jesus and let Him inspire us to 'being fervent in spirit serving the Lord'

Romans 12:11 KJV.

Mike's Memos
I'M BACK!!!!!......
and thank you for allowing me and my family the time off for a very nice vacation. Earlene, Bobbie, Ashlin, Joleen and I enjoyed our 12 state drive seeing many sights including Mount Rushmore and the Grand Canyon. It was also a joy to be able to celebrate with Earlene's family the 60th wedding anniversary of her parents, and to spend a little time with my sister and one of my brothers. It was a LONG 6000+ mile trek, which we enjoyed immensely, and are grateful for the opportunity and for God's protective blessings........and it's good to be home!!!!!

CCS CORNER -School News

School Opens SOON!!

(The Friendship Within Us) ......... As we feel the crisp wind....as we watch green leaves turn to yellow and fall to the ground.. as we (as the Reeves family experienced) see the first snow on the pass, and as we see the stores fill up with "back to school" bargains, we know that school will be opening soon! Our rooms look clean, the floors are shining (as we gratefully thank Pat, her brother, and Jerry for so much!!!), and the furniture begins to find its' place back into the classrooms. The enjoyment of teaching spills over in enthusiasm as the teachers prepare! We begin to reflect on myriads of memories concerning what we are all about! All of us, not just those that will be teaching soon in the many schools (private and public and individual homes around the country) everywhere are teachers if we belong to God! Our example is our teaching! Our encouragement is our teaching! Our happiness is our teaching! We have a challenge to be obedient at all times according to what God commands of us. It is difficult to always be consistent in our path of obedience as we walk through life. We have seen the example before us in the Israelites, Christ's disciples, and our own leaders today. We must always.. always go to our brothers and admit when we are wrong.. rejoice in what is good.. and build fellowship with each other as we are always living as an example and being watched by the master instructor. "All scripture is God -breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every GOOD work." II Timothy 3:16 We should read this again! As we teach in all settings...ALL settings.. lean on our God as our example. His WORD revives us. It gives us CONFIDENCE! Paul says, "Be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms, hymns....'Eph 5:18 Paul is here concerned that as we speak to one another that it is uplifting and encouraging! A simple encouraging word, as we know, can carry us many miles! It is so true of our students and own children as well. Whenever we teach, regardless of the situation, format, or time of year, let's remember Proverbs 20:15 "Gold there is, and rubies in abundance, but lips that speak knowledge are a rare jewel!"

-Dan Dupey
