Family News August 4, 2002 Short By STUFF Dave ShanerWe had a very successful meeting last week with Earl Williams. We received this e-mail this week: I recently attended your Sunday night meeting with Earl Williams. I wanted to thank you for having this "fresh" brother speak. My family and I were uplifted and encouraged. If you are interested in any audio or video tapes of the seminar, be sure to see Steve Taylor. They are available for a nominal donation. We have also just concluded our annual Vacation Bible School. We would like to pay a short visit to each of the parents of the children who attended VBS. These doorstep visits are intended to be no more than 5 minutes in length, gives them a brochure about the church here, and gives them a loaf of homemade bread compliments of our members. We have approximately 70 visits to make. It would be good if we could complete these visits this week. The bread has been made and it would be good if we could deliver it fresh. But we need your help to complete these visits. If you could help with these please see myself asap. I will give you a card of the ones you are to visit, the brochure of the church, the bread, and a sample of what to say at the door. I realize that this may be out of some people's comfort zone, but this is a painless way to let someone know you care and serves as a very good introduction about the church here. This is a project that can involve many people and plant a lot of seed in the hearts of those we visit. We can use volunteers in the daytime or evenings. Can you spare 10 or 15 minutes this week to give to this effort? Let's work together to let others know about Jesus and the wonderful church here in Dalton Gardens. All Teen camp at Prince's Pine is going on now. Junior Camp will start next Sunday. I will be directing this session. Mike Reeves will be preaching in my absence. Let's continue to encourage 'one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness.' - Hebrews 3:13 Have a Great Week! 'God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.' -I Peter 5:5b

I want to acknowledge the response to my unfortunate car accident and resulting broken leg. Thanks to everyone for the many cards, phone calls and offers of help. But mostly for the love in many, many prayers to our gracious God for healing my body, mind and spirit. - Vera Calfy Mike's Memos What Every Family Needs Twenty-five years ago Carl Bracheen and Paul Faulkner wrote that if families are to survive, they must spend time together. We must work diligently to keep proper priorities in our lives....God first, husband / wife relationships second, and parents / children relationships third. This gets more and more challenging in our exciting, changing world. Our potential for happiness in the family has never been greater, yet the threats to our happiness have never been more dangerous. Our mobility allows us to scatter to the four winds, rarely seeing one another for days at a time, or often just passing one another briefly as we rush here and there. With two and three (and sometimes more!) cars per family, home often seems more like a filling station for people, a pit stop on the racetrack of life. Being at home doesn't guarantee that families will spend time together. Families who spend hours each day watching television, the computer, or playing video games may not have any idea what is going on in one another's lives. The telephone is also a mixed blessing at best. We enjoy the steps it saves us, and the access it gives us to friends and extended family, but the telephone also gives others access to us....and sometimes at the most disruptive moments. We are constantly interrupted during meal times, and other times of family interaction....moments which can never be recalled. We appreciate and treasure the marvelous technological advancements of our modern times, but unless we learn to make them serve us, we become their slaves. They will dictate the schedule for our lives. They will become our priorities. They will threaten the stability of our families. Bibles for Africa - Special Appeal Huge is the door of opportunity to provide the Bible to people who are so very poor. Often there is a sharing of one Bible among many on a rotational basis. Ivan and Sally Archer are leaving soon to assist this project under the direction of Roger Dickson. Printing and distribution of a Bible costs about $3.00 (US) each. Thus, for three dollars you too can join in this effort. Funds may be given directly to the Archers or make a check to the church with a note indicating it is for the Bibles for Africa project. Camp Prince's Pine The bus for Junior Camp will be leaving next Sunday, August 11 at noon right after morning worship. CCS CORNER -School News Where are the K- 4 children? We are looking for them! Four years old. What a great age! The young child that is excited about learning and wanting to know EVERYTHING about God's wonderful world. The innocence and love that they show is contagious. They willingly will shower you with FREE hugs and smiles of contentment. Four years olds usually do not have a lot of worries or concerns. They are not easily jealous, rude, or self-seeking. Four year olds are like sponges.....they soak up learning, anxious to absorb it as they listen with wide-opened eyes! Jesus said, 'Unless you become like one of these....you cannot enter the kingdom of heaven.' Jesus was talking about the obedient, innocent, excited child. They have a 'pure' heart! 'Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see GOD!' Matthew 5:8 What is our heart like? We have known many four years olds from the past. Where are they today? Are they still the good example? Are they obedient? Are they happily married? Are they still excited about life? Are they still kind and loving? Do they still rejoice and get excited over 'little' things of life? It is SO important to guide, encourage, and praise the four year olds as they begin this walk in life. It is important to introduce GOD to them daily and encourage the excitement about doing what is right. They are our future and they need a solid foundation. Praise and encouragement is needed by all of us. It is important that we introduce and reiterate these qualities early in the child's life! As parents and teachers, God has instructed us to build what is 'right' in the minds of our children as they develop their foundation. CCS is looking for more FOUR YEAR OLDS! Spread the word! We have several openings! Contact Dan Dupey or Shari Swaim by calling the school office at 772-7118. -Dan Dupey CCS Is Going Hawaiian! The Coeur d'Alene Christian School is now collecting Hawaiian decorations for the 2003 Auction. For more information or questions call Georgette Rude at 772-9833.
