Family News July 28, 2002 Short By STUFF Dave ShanerToday starts our meeting with Earl Williams! We are so thankful to have Earl with us for a few days. He was here three years ago and helped many people to see a clearer view of Jesus. I still remember many people responding asking for prayers and several were baptized into Christ. You still have time to invite a friend or neighbor to come with you each evening through Tuesday of this week. See the accompanying article for times. Today is the last day to send in your preregistration for Junior Camp at Prince's Pine. If it is received by today, you will receive a $30 savings! You may turn it into the office. Dave Shaner will be directing this year's Junior session. Junior camp starts August 11. If you or your child will be attending either camp and are in need of a ride, please let me know as soon as possible in case the bus needs to be scheduled. There are several from the Dalton Gardens church that are serving as staff members during Junior Camp. I am so thankful for this as they make my job much easier. If you have never been to the camp site, you may wish to simply take a day and enjoy beautiful Lake Thomas. It is a beautiful site and God has blessed us tremendously with it. Our annual Vacation Bible School was a tremendous success! We had over 100 children here from the community. The closing program had many from the community here who told us how much their children were learning about Jesus and how much they enjoyed being here. So many people worked so hard to help make this a reality. All of you deserve our gratefulness. A special thank you goes to Alyssa Frahm and Michelle Kish. They went beyond the call of duty in terms of time and dedication. Be sure to let them know that you appreciate them. We will be delivering small gift-packs to each family with some brochures about the church. If you are able to help deliver these or help bake some bread, please see me or let the office know. A special thank you goes to Pat Riggs and Jerry Riggs for the effort they have put into maintenance on the building. They have installed new tile in classrooms 3 & 5. Pat has overseen many fix-up projects. Jerry has spent a great deal of time keeping the lawn looking nice as well as been a great handyman. Be sure to let them know how much we appreciate them. Have a Great Week! Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart. 1 Peter 1:22
'3 Unusual Days' Earl Williams July 28-30 Today through Tuesday is our annual

Andrew & Marnelle Marchese have indicated a desire to be a part of the Dalton congregation. They have three children Sarah, Matthew, and Clark. Be sure to welcome them into the family of God here. Their address is: Join us this Tuesday at 6:30 a.m. at JB's Restaurant on Appleway for our weekly Prayer Breakfast Shepherd's Corner Many things work together to bring about growth in the church. We should not take away from any of the factors that influence people to come to God, and we applaud the many efforts to seek out methods and tools that attract people and create an atmosphere for the church to grow. But our balance is off if we neglect the important matter of sitting down with individuals in informal settings and teaching the basics of the word of God with a view toward bringing them to salvation through Christ. For all of our emphasis on growing the church through stimulating worship services, small groups, visionary leadership, strong staff, etc., we must not leave out personal, one on one evangelistic Bible studies. This is God's plan for the spreading of the Gospel, one person teaching another. We all need to share the wonderful gift of love that we have been blessed with. - Scott Rouse for the EldersMission to China and Japan Jenny Dupey will be leaving in August for the Pac-Rim countries. This is for the Cascade College semester mission program. Jenny still needs help funding this program. If you can help in any way you may contact her at 660-0228 for more information or make checks payable to Cascade College towards Jenny's account. Thank you for those who have already contributed toward this. Thanks again! David & Becky Reeves here September 15 The Reeves family are coming to the states this fall on a planned rotation home leave. Mark your calendar for the 15th of September to be here to hear first hand the reports of the work and accomplishments with the Kabiye in Togo. God truly has provided the increase as we have learned of the converts made to Christ these past several weeks. Bibles for Africa - Special Appeal Huge is the door of opportunity to provide the Bible to people who are so very poor. Often there is a sharing of one Bible among many on a rotational basis. Ivan and Sally Archer are leaving soon to assist this project under the direction of Roger Dickson. Printing and distribution of a Bible costs about $3.00 (US) each. Thus, for three dollars you too can join in this effort. Funds may be given directly to the Archers or make a check to the church with a note indicating it is for the Bibles for Africa project. Please plan on attending and spending this time in fellowship with your sisters. Mary Nell Lipscomb will present a short devotional. Bring your favorite brown bag lunch - drinks and dessert will be provided. See you there!Mike's Memos Love....True Unity.... Bible Study....Evangelism Christ's beautiful prayer for unity in John 17 can best be understood in the context of his prior commandment to 'love one another'. It is only by the power of spiritual, Christ-like love that we can rise above the physical, and experience the unity of believers which will have serious implications for Bible study and evangelism. Jesus prayed, 'My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that they all may be one, Father, just as you and I are one. May they also be one so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you have given me, that they may be one as we are one, I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. In my efforts to build better Bible class structure, curriculum and attendance, and to help with evangelism in this congregation, I keep bumping into this door with a sign that reads 'All men will know that you are my disciples if you love one another.' And if we are one, 'The world will believe that you have sent me.' It seems that the power source for building a body of strong Christians, a church, dedicated to the study and effective sharing of God's word lies in how well we love one another. Until the fruits of love and unity are evident in us, Christianity is merely another philosophical system to be debated but not to be lived. Camp Prince's Pine Camp registration forms for Junior Teen Camp at Camp Prince's Pine can be found on the kiosk in the church building foyer. If you are able to sponsor anyone who cannot afford to attend camp, the cost is only $65 per week. If you are able to help or have other questions, please see Mike Reeves or Dave Shaner. OOPS!!! Mistake!!! OOPS!! In the mess of VBS I forgot one little thing. I meant to collect $5.00 for the staff T-shirts. If you are able, please turn in $5.00 for your shirts. I must stay on the good side of the finance department. -Alyssa Frahm Great Congregational Support For Stephen Ministry Eighty-two names were submitted (50 women and 32 men) for serving as Stephen ministers. Classroom three will accommodate only 18 people for maximum effective module teaching. We will send out some letters in the near future. Next there will be an interview process. We appreciate your interest and patience. Great things are being planned. There will be a waiting list for the names of those unable to be selected for intensive training at this time. Some of those named on the list may be unable to train due to other commitments such as job, time of training conflicts or out of town commitments. The good news is next year there will be another training group for numbers of those not included in the initial training of the Stephen ministry. The three Stephen leaders are David Bruner, Anna Crump and Ralph Crump who plan to start the Stephen ministers' training September 9, the Lord willing. Thank You! Thank You! Thanks so much to all who helped with VBS this year. As always it would not be possible without each and everyone of you. We had a very successful year with lots of guests from the community.
