Family News July 21, 2002 Short By STUFF Dave ShanerBe sure you have set aside the time to attend next weeks meeting with Earl Williams. He spoke here a few years back and is anxious to be with us again. He is currently on a speaking tour that includes many states including Alaska. And...he is traveling for all these meetings on a motorcycle! You are sure to enjoy this special time of encouragement, Bible instruction, and fellowship. See the accompanying article for times. Today is the last day to send in your pre-registration for All-Teen Camp at Prince's Pine. If it is postmarked by today, you will receive a $30 savings! All teen camp starts August 3. Junior Camp starts the following week, August 11. Junior Camp registrations may be turned into the office this week at the reduced rate. If you or your child will be attending either camp and are in need of a ride, please let me know as soon as possible in case the bus needs to be scheduled. There are several from the Dalton Gardens church that are serving as staff members during these camping sessions. They serve because they have a heart for children and enjoy this particular setting. Many of them have to take personal vacation time to do this. It is a lot of work with no pay except for the joy they receive from serving, which is considerable. Be sure to let them know how much you appreciate them. A special birthday wish to Mike Reeves on his birthday this week. He is ? old. Regardless of age, Mike is a fountain of youth and a tireless worker for the Lord. He serves as a very special example for all of us. Whether he is working with the teenagers, the keenagers, arranging and/or teaching Bible classes, we have all gained from his devotion to the Lord and His church. Look for someone this week to encourage. Remember, you may use the foyer mailboxes to give someone a note. Be sure to check your mailboxes each week. After these are not emptied for over 2 weeks, this gives us a good reason for a 'deliver the mail' visit to your home. Have a Great Week!! For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. - Ephesians 6:12

Shepherd's Corner Last week we looked at the concept of recognizing the simple joys that God provides in our lives. Sometimes it is difficult to see this joy without the help of a caring Christian friend. I am fortunate to have several such people in my life. Out of all of them I have one brother who has helped me see joy when I was absolutely sure that there was none. He has picked me up when I was down and offered sound spiritual advice. I consider myself blessed to have had Earl Williams come into my life some 13 years ago. Have you ever had God send just the right person into your life at just the right time? Earl will be here in 1 week and God is sending him into your life. Take time to talk to him and allow God to use Earl to touch your heart. Make sure you are here for all sessions to reap the benefits of hearing about "Living With Jesus Today". I guarantee that you will not be the same! - Scott Rouse for the Elders Recruiting Stephen Ministers The Importance of Prayer Praying Right Now 'So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and he answered our prayer' (Ezra 8:23). Finding Stephen Ministers is the next step for our congregation's Stephen Ministry. Right now we are praying for the individuals God is calling to serve as caregivers. Please include this need in your prayers. God answers our prayers because he is faithful. For more information about Stephen Ministry, contact David Bruner: 667-2943 or Ralph Crump: 773-6945Welcome to the Family!! Two families this week have indicated a desire to be a part of the Dalton congregation. Be sure to welcome them into the family of God here. Jesse & Cindy Rupnick Ivon & Donna Coleman Bibles for Africa - Special Appeal Huge is the door of opportunity to provide the Bible to people who are so very poor. Often there is a sharing of one Bible among many on a rotational basis. Ivan and Sally Archer are leaving soon to assist this project under the direction of Roger Dickson. Printing and distribution of a Bible costs about $3.00 (US) each. Thus, for three dollars you too can join in this effort. Funds may be given directly to the Archers or make a check to the church with a note indicating it is for the Bibles for Africa project. We will be getting together again on August 16 at 6:30 p.m. Mike's Memos If It Were Easy You Would Have Already Done It The new life in Christ is about trouble, the kind Jesus warned about. 'In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.'(Jn.16:33)When you begin to do things Jesus' way, you will encounter troubles....both from outside and inside. The world. the Devil, and even your own flesh will resist you and pressure you to do it the wrong way. Doing it the right way will be difficult, but he warned us, 'Narrow is the road that leads to life'. (Mt.7:14) To hammer out a godly identity takes a lot of courage and a lot of hard work. Running into resistance is a good sign that you are doing what you need to do. It will be worth it. Remember, the scripture says that when you encounter resistance, persevering until the end will bring great reward. You will receive the goal of your faith, the salvation of your soul.(1 Pet.1:9) As James puts it, 'Consider it pure joy, my brothers, when you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance, Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. (Jsa. 1:2-4) You may be sure, resistance will come. If it were easy to set good boundaries, you would have done it a long time ago. But as the troubles come, see them in the biblical perspective. God's people have always encountered trials as they ventured out on the road of faith. The journey is riddled with trouble, but also with the promises of the Good Shepherd to carry us through if we trust and obey Him. Teens, Thanks for the wonderful Birthday Party, and thanks to the Frisks for hosting it. We will miss you guys while we are on vacation. As we plan and get ready for school, as we outline a family trip, as we get ready for services on Sunday morning, as we begin a new week at our job, how do we plan our time? What do we do with our time? It seems like we NEVER have enough of it! There is always something 'plugged' into our time slots. Our plate is overflowing with things we need, or want to do. Our obsession with the passage of time, etc...., in many ways defines our society. So many books have been written on 'Time Management' that we cannot possibly find the TIME to read them all! The struggle for most of us is finding a proper balance in our lives between God's desire for His people and our desire in how we want to spend our TIME. To balance this we need to prioritize. As God's children, we need to always...not sometimes...not when I feel available...not when it is convenient....but always put Him first. How does God want us to spend our time?We need to set aside a time for spiritual growth. A time to grow and know God. A place of prayer and quietness. This...believe it or not...should be a daily activity. (Difficult for most in our fast paced world) Paul tells us to, 'Be very careful in how we live-not as the unwise but as wise, making the MOST of our opportunity (TIME)...because the days are evil.' Eph. 5:15-16. TIME will pass us by and our work will not be done! We can all think of opportunities that were missed where we should have acted more quickly in saying a kind word...in helping someone in need...in giving a hug that could have lifted a spirit...in sharing an idea that could have made a difference...in speaking a kind word to be more like Christ...in offering our services to help a Church in need...to stand for what is right no matter where we are! Time is gift. It is a SPECIAL gift we often neglect. It is a precious gift from God. David's son, Solomon, reminds us that there is a time for everything in Ecclesiastes 3:1-8. The words that we all want to hear from God's people are: 'I have time for you!' The question we want to ask ourselves each day is: 'Can I make this statement to become a strong servant and encouraging child for God?' To become better servants and dedicated children of God we need to set goals and prioritize our time. As we plan our time it is important that we put God first. Now, let's begin to serve! -Dan DupeyCCS made $50 thanks to all who donated pop cans. Continue to bring your cans and place them in the back shed. All cans are appreciated!!! We thank God for all those involved in our float for the 4th of July parade. CCS received 2nd place!
