Family News July 14, 2002 Short By STUFF Dave ShanerOur '3 Unusual Days' meeting with Earl Williams is coming up in only 2 weeks! This will start on Sunday morning, July 28 and continue on Sunday through Tuesday evenings. Earl spoke here in 1999 and is now back by popular demand. He will be speaking on the theme of 'Living with Jesus.' Make your plans to be here for each session. If you are not currently in a Bible Study Group, you are missing out on a blessing. Several of the Bible Study Groups meet on Sunday evenings. We also have one that meets on Wednesday morning at the church building and one that meets on Thursday evenings in Post Falls. Most of these groups are studying the Psalms. The Wednesday morning group starts studying the Parables of Jesus July 31. Don't be afraid to bring your children. While these lessons are in a living room setting, your children can benefit greatly from being in a Bible study with Mom & Dad. They may get your biblical instruction at home, which is good, but I also want my children to remember their parents getting together with other Christians to study the Word of God. A list of these can be found on the back of the Family News bulletin each week. Call any of the leaders to find out the meeting place. Our attendance both for Sunday morning Bible classes/assembly and Wednesday evening Bible Study has been very encouraging. There are still many who are missing out on some important times of Bible study during these times. A variety of classes are offered for the adults and the children. 'Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.' - Romans 10:17. The teachers work hard to bring you interesting, practical lessons. Some simply don't come because of never developing the habit. New habits can be started any time. Furthermore, your presence, participation, and encouragement are all vital elements of the church as a whole growing and maturing to become more like Christ. Let's always be in the habit of not neglecting meeting together as we encourage each other to love and good works. - Hebrews 10:25 Have a Great Week!! This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. -Psalm 118:24 Sing to the Lord, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day. -Psalm 96:2

Shepherd's Corner True or false: God blesses our lives so very richly and in ways that we cannot even comprehend? The unanimous answer is true of course but sometimes in our lives we come to a point where we feel burdened. A feeling of desperation sweeps over us and if we sink low enough we begin to wonder if God has forgotten us. Maybe you have been in such a place, I know I have. When we find ourselves there we have a difficult time seeing any joy in our lives. We are blinded by our situation and fail to see all the wonderful things God is doing around us. I challenge you, next time you feel down, or all the time for that matter, to really look for the simple joys in your life. It will make a world of difference in your outlook. You will become eager to rise in the morning to see just how God is going to bless you today. When I do this my whole attitude improves. I notice in more detail the joy of life that Jesus brings to my heart. I watch and wonder what will he do next? You too can be amazed by the way he works in your life. Pay close attention each day because I don't know about you but I don't want to miss anything that he has in store for me! - Scott Rouse for the Elders Camp Prince's Pine Camp registration forms for Preteen Camp, All-teen Camp, Junior Teen Camp at Camp Prince's Pine can be found on the kiosk in the church building foyer. The Battle for Reliance' August 30 - Sept. 2 For High School Teens Registration $45; Must Register by July 15 THAT'S TOMORROW!!! Teens, I need to have registration forms and $$$$$ today if you'd like to go and can go. Talk to me! Study the Scripture!! With thoughts taken from the new book, God's Holy Fire, I share the following admonition for all of us to be students of God's word. In churches of Christ, the Bible has always been the source of spiritual instruction, understanding, and ultimate authority. I don't believe that has changed. Yet, in today's society there is an obvious need for the rediscovery of God's word even in the church. This is vital to the survival of the church. We must remember that the scriptures are more than a reference work to consult. They contain the compelling story of God's relationship with man, and embody the transforming power of God in our lives. But to experience that transforming power, we must know the Word, and allow it to permeate our very being. We thus become a Spirit-led, Spirit-fed church which truly is the church of Christ. This will not, can not happen unless we become true students of the Bible. It needs to happen in our homes as well as in our Bible study groups and classes. Please allow me to encourage all of us to set a higher priority on the study of God's word. All Teen Camp August 3 - 10 Preregistrations for $65 must be in by July 20th. TNT Friday Night, July 19th Relay for Life at Lake City High School Track We'll walk and sing! Game and snack booths available. Question & Answer For God, David asks the important question, and then supplies the answer.... 'How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word.' Psalm 119:9 PRAY FIRST PLAN LATERThe prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. James 5:16 God expects us to be orderly. He expects us to manage our time, to discipline ourselves, to prepare well planned programs. But if we could learn to pray first and plan afterwards, how different would be our homes, our churches, our Christian clubs, our Bible studies, whatever we are doing for Christ. Maybe, just maybe, we are planning in one direction and God's will is in another direction. God might say 'Hold everything! Turn around and go this way. This is my will for you, not that way.' Even if we plugged into God's will and know we are going in the right direction, we may be going at a snail's pace. God says 'Look, you only see a tenth of what I have for you. There are nine-tenths that you're not seeing, that you don't know anything about.' God wants us to make ourselves available to him, and to say before we start to plan, 'Lord tell me WHAT you want me to do, WHERE you want me to go, HOW you want me to do it.' Then our omnipotent God, with all the abundance of heaven at his disposal, will pour out his power upon us. Instead of following our tiny, tiny plans, God wants to open heaven and flood us. It's exciting. We work, we pull, we struggle and we plan until we're utterly exhausted, but we have forgotten to plug into the Source of Power. And that SOURCE OF POWER IS PRAYER - the fervent prayer of a righteous person that is powerful and effective. Heavenly Father: Teach me to plug into your power instead of just my limited human resources. Amen Come join us Tuesday morning at 6:30 a.m. at JB's Restaurant on Appleway and be encouraged by more uplifting thoughts.
